EDIT : It's no more the Panther 2 but the Tiger 6s, please scroll down for further information.

Hello everybody.

A few weeks ago I've started to build a German sugar beet harvester ROPA Panther 2 in 1:17 scale.

ropa_panther2_20126_d8x_6141.jpg

Here is the fourth version of the chassis and its features (still far away from completion):

2 C+ Smart Hubs (first is for steering and drivetrain and second is for other functions - not finished yet)

2 C+ XL motors for drivetrain (front and rear axle aren't connected together)

1 C+ L motor for front axle's articulated steering

1 C+ XL motor for rear axle's steering

Pendular rear axle

Front hydraulics operated via 2 short thick pneumatic cylinders

Automatic security levers connected to rear steering

I'd like to make it fully working (put some bricks on the front belt to go through the whole mechanism and fall into the container), everything works except the cleaning section (no idea how it will work yet)

So a lot of work still left to do....

Good start.

How do You plan to get it further from front? There seems not so much space at the moment. I suppose, that chassis had to be then with "empty" middle part.

Love to see such an organized and thought-out build. Looking forward to see updates.

Now I'm waiting for 3 C+ XL motors for next functions.

So sorry for disappointment....no guns

Thank you! I had a lot of troubles with the chassis.

My suggestion is to use frames as much as possible; I had to use it on my Fastrac chassis.

Ok, thx for advice. I have quite a lot of 7x5 frames to update construction.

If I'm not mistaken you use C+ XL motors and upper and lower part fit perfectly inside 7 x 5 frame, so you can have box-like XL motor that could be integrated easily...

Well, there has been quite a lot of progress here.

First of all, the chassis had to be completely rebuilt because the previous version was not solid enough.

Here's how the structure looks like (the turntable placed here is not on the current chassis like this):

Chassis WIP 7

Chassis WIP 8

This rebuild allowed me to cram more functions inside (only working steering wheel yet).

And with the steering wheel, there's a little problem: because all of the ports of the hub were used, I couldn't fit another motor in here so i used the turntable's teeth as a gear which rotates the steering wheel.

But what have I forgotten at is, that this vehicle has 2 axles steered. So when I steer only rear axle, the steering wheel doesn't move...*huh*

Anyway here's how the model looks like now:

Well using classic technic bricks can aid stiffness

...but I suppose that bigger turntable would be better in terms of size and weight for your model...

I also got this idea, but after some experiments, I decided for the small one, which anyway looks better.

And what about its weight? Well, it's more than 3kg heavy now...

This is coming along great!

I'm doing my best...the last finished model was my TC18 entry

I was wondering if small turntable would be to week for weight (3kg as you said)

As it's now, there are no problems with the small turntable.

In fact the joint is strong enough even without any turntable, so I used it mainly because of its teeth as a gear.
