Batbrick Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Something a little different, I want to know what pieces the AFOL community are sick of getting or have way too much of. Those pieces that manage to always find their way into TLC's sets, but never your creations. For me it's those annoying gold(ish) triangular slopes that pop up everywhere in Castle and a few in the Indy sets, I have no use for them yet I have so much. Another is 1x2 bricks of any colour with technic holes in them, I know they are useful but I have more of those than I do regular bricks and it annoys me. What pieces are you getting sick of? (Btw, I don't want to turn this into another negative fest, I just want to see people's opinions on this ) Batbrick Away! Quote
Deinonychus Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Honestly, I can't think of a one. I might from time to tie think "Another one of these? I have enough of these.". But then inevitably I start building something and never have enough of those and have to hit up Bricklink Although I could do without those little things the rubber bands come wrapped around. I've never used them for anything but I just can't bring myself to throw them away! Quote
Asuka Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Well, who would´ve guessed so.... Studless technic beams!!! Aarrgh.... Please, TLC, just use them when it´s absolutely necessary, and not only for some boldly cost cutting measures.... Quote
Inertia Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Aarrgh.... Please, TLC, just use them when it´s absolutely necessary, and not only for some boldly cost cutting measures.... Hey, my review, promotion, On! Well, I always seem to have a lot of spears and shooty thingies, Why TLC? Why? Oh and about 50 Catapults.. Getting really sick of them so I made a huge catapult to assault my dog when trys to go near a MOC... Quote
Alice Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I do not have too much of anything. I actually don't have enough of anything. So, I propose a solution. Those pesky parts that are just sitting around irritating you, just message me and I'll take them (for free of course, just to take them off of your hands because I wouldn't want you to get more and more irritated). Anybody got too many ponies, forestwomen, white pigtails, white or green ninja princess? Quote

Wilhelm screamer Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Spears in the new castle sets (I know they saw more use in 15th century war, but the sword as a weapon is far cooler) Quote
Shadows Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Is it possible to have too many of anything? I look at weird parts or bulk quantities as new opportunities unrealised. I mean, sometimes, one of something is too many. Ultimately though, it's all a matter of the specific part. I don't mind having a hundred spears. Just consider yourself lucky you don't have one of these. :skull: I would say though that if you have too many of something, send them to Alice as she requested. Quote

CP5670 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Probably wheels. I have numerous wheels that have been sitting in my parts area for some years now. These range from the usual small System ones to some large and rare Technic ones like 24x43s and the 8448 ones. I'll find something to do with them eventually. The rubber band holders mentioned earlier would be another one, and the rubber bands themselves for that matter (the black ones with square cross sections). Most sets come with several spare ones and they pile up quickly over time. Studless technic beams!!! The funny thing is that I never seem to have enough of these, since most of my Technic sets are from before the time when TLG really started to use them widely. I certainly agree that they're overused these days though, both in Technic itself as well as other themes. Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Cannon from the Pirate and Western sets. Ok, its my own fault for buying sets on Ebay that came with them, but I seriously have no need for more artillary then, erm, something with a lot of guns... Quote
Fluyt Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I don't have too much of one item, I just have too little of the rest. Just about any item, useless or not (in smaller numbers), could create a wonderfull moc when in large numbers. Quote
brickbitz Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 The technic cannons with competition arrow are getting on my nerves a bit, I have loads lying around. They seem to have been included in most Batman , Exoforce sets recently and I have yet to see any included in 99.99% of mocs. ( I have seen one used creatively in a mini steam engine) Quote
SlyOwl Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Spades. 5 brown, 4 dark grey, 3 black, 1 bley. And I don't even need them. Ever. Quote
der seb Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 these double, triple and hundredfold sloped wedges, specially this one and the left side, too Quote
Siegfried Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Like a few others here, I have too much of nothing. (I almost said the competition cannons, but I have found uses for them in the past.) I tend to buy my sets more carefully these days so parts that are hard to use, such as big buckets... ...I just don't buy to many of, if any. In short, I have one or two copies of hard to use pieces, but if I didn't have them I would want them just the same! Quote
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I hate this piece because I got a gatzillion of these through the Droid and Clone battlepacks. Then this because you can just build ON it but not UNDER and then this technik pin . A technik pin like this here is one of the best parts because you can build with regular bricks on ist but the dark grey version´s stud is too big for building. Please break the molds for these pieces or do use them not often, then in the last time. Nearly every set had one of this pieces. Batcave, imperial star destroyer, Battlepacks, Troll Battleweehl, Rogue Shadow,... Quote
Derek Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Flick Fire Missles. I know its not a specific piece, but they are horrible for display. The new version is alright, but the old ones with the axle and the cone fall out when ever you move the model. Quote

( I have seen one used creatively in a mini steam engine) The one in my signature uses them. I actually bought those separately off Bricklink since the cannons weren't nearly as common back in 2002 as they are now. Quote
SirNadroj Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Luke Skywalker minifigures and chrome lightsabre hilts. Quote
Matn Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) Oeh, but I love chrome. I have to much Harry Potter figures. To much Harry faces. Harry's everywhere. Edited June 1, 2008 by Matn Quote
F0NIX Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 If you think yopu have TOO many items of one particular LEGO brick, I think you have a low or bad imagination :) Shovels can be used as they are ment to, as shovels. Pirates use them for digging down/up their treasure. Space men use them to shovel out the spacepig dung. In the castle they also use them to shovel out the dung from the horses, or to dig water graves around the castle. In the city roadworkers use them alot to lean on so they dont fall over. :) Or if you have many of them you can use them as details for a space ship or on a house or on.... Well, I can think of many uses for just a shovel or two. I can't think of any items that I have too much of, I only have some items that I almost never use up all that I have just because I have to little of the rest to combine them. E.g. Technic pin, I never have used ALL I have, but I can't say that I have too many of them just because I have too few technic beams/bricks to use them in to make a large model of some sort... Quote

Well, I can think of many uses for just a shovel or two. I can use them easily enough, but all 13, when in different colours? I guess it's my fault for buying them, when I should have got something more useful instead (like 1x2 yellow grille tiles )... Quote
Matija Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Well, I can think of many uses for just a shovel or two. How about 300+? There was at least one person who ran away with that after LEGOWorld... I am sure there might be some use for them, but... I'd have to think a lot. Quote
MacK Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) There aren't that many I can think of, since most pieces I own to few of to pose a problem. The few parts I can think of would be these in all sizes as I have gotten many from the newer castle sets, yet I never use them since I don't build medieval convoys . I also never use bionicle pieces in anything I build, so I just threw them into a container, and put it in a remote corner of my room. The rubber band holders mentioned earlier would be another one, and the rubber bands themselves for that matter (the black ones with square cross sections). Most sets come with several spare ones and they pile up quickly over time. I also have about twenty or so rubber band holders, but I actually use them sometimes when I'm playing with my Lego. They make okay forts for crownies or random rebels to hide in before getting blown up by catapults, and tanks . However I can still see problems arising from them if you have plenty because there aren't that many uses for them, especially in very large quantities Edited June 1, 2008 by MacK Quote
