LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I can't imagine a modern remake of the Message Intercept Base at less than $170, much less with a remake of the Alienator as a side build. Think of the Eldorado Fortress remake with Trading Ship side build at $215.

Good point - I forgot that the City Space ‘24-‘25 base is $135! By that metric, the Message Intercept Base would have to be around $200 (especially if it had any side-builds!).
Renegade is looking like the most likely option now, unless LEGO goes with Blacktron II and gives us an updated Aerial Intruder.

Renegade is my least-favoured option due to its awkward assymetry. I'll take anything Blacktron 1 or 2 however.

Also, slightly less parts than the Classic ship so I think the Renegade might be a bit underwhelming if that's what it is.

I would take it almost granted that we will get the Renegade. The Piece Count/Price seems to low for the Base and to high for the Alienator or the Battrax. Aside from that I think that a ship would sell better than a ground vehicle, and would especially work well for people that already bought the Galaxy Explorer.

Actually a bit surprised we will already see it in January given how little and late we got infos about it.

Nice to see a Lego set in a reasonable price range for a change.

I like the Galaxy Explorer except for the small quad very much, so a new spaceship sounds pretty cool. I suppose there is no chance for a Space GWP?

Very interesting! I wasn’t expecting both in the same year. If only we could get a Blacktron III theme too…

If I had to guess, Blacktron II could be a GWP in June or August, not too dissimilar to Forestman’s Hideout. That’d make sense: Blacktron II has a great many fans, but I don’t think it’s as iconic as Blacktron I. So, release the latter as a fully-realized playset, then use the hype of Blacktron II’s return, combined with the fear of missing out, to maximize profits across the board. It’s anti-consumer, and it’s genius.

Given the number of pieces currently used for the sets, I would not be surprised to see a remake of 6941 Battrax.

I'm hoping for a remake of the 6954 Renegade because I love its unique asymmetrical design and also because it would paired well wth the 10497 Galaxy Explorer. But as you pointed out, it seems dubious given the "low" price and number of parts.

I secretly dream of a remake of the brilliant 6981 Aerial Intruder. This would be perfect for an affordable set in the middle price range. We need more diverse and affordable classic inspired / remake sets.

Please LEGO, no stickers !

How about calling it fan service? :moar:

Would really be surprising if they would do both in the same year.. Is there any info yet if the Blacktron 2 will be an actual Set or "just" a GWP?

Personally, I highly doubt they would release two Blacktron sets so close together - they would cannibalize sales of each other unless the latter set was a GWP. And as it stands, there is only a rumor of the BT1 set, with nothing specific rumored for the GWP, if there is one planned. (And, don't forget the windscreen color of BT2 was recently retired so this makes it even less likely to be true - GWP or otherwise!) Likely the GWP will be a Modular building GWP and not space related, if the past is anything to go by.

Noone said the GWP would come alongside the Blacktron Set - I mean the Blacktron cruiser GWP was months after the Galaxy Explorer. And I don´t see a reason why they couldn´t use trans bright green in the first place. Eitherway as said above, two Space Sets in one year would surprise me, so I would tend towards a GWP.

Btw, the January GWP should be the Year of the Snake one, I think Modular GWPs came usually in February. Though they might make it exclusive for its release now, then it would actually release alongside the Modular.

Blacktron II is coming later in the year, according to a_clay_brick. I fully expect a GWP, the reasons for which I’ll refer to my previous post in this thread.

The GWP in January will be a modular GWP, undoubtedly, but who knows what will come later on in 2025. Remember that we were aware of the Blacktron Crusier GWP as nearly as far back as when the Galaxy Explorer hit shelves, and of Majisto’s Workshop in early 2023.

This could entirely be a fluke, I’ll concede, in which case I’ll take the fault for proclaiming the news without checking my sources.

Trans-neon green, although iconic to Blacktron II, doesn’t seem as necessary as trans-neon orange is to Ice Planet. Trans-bright green is less vibrant, sure, but that fits better with the stealth aspect of Blacktron as a whole.

Either that, or, in an extremely unlikely scenario, LEGO will simply bring back trans-neon green next year. I highly, highly doubt this would be the case, but speculation never hurt anyone.

I think a GWP seems very likely, they've not done a retro redux one this year and I doubt they'd stop doing it permanently. They have the torso print already after all. I doubt they'll care about shifting to trans-bright green, after all they didn't swear off doing CS due to not being able to use classic light grey

Very interesting! I am obviously going to remain sceptical about a Blacktron II set (even a GWP), but this is sounding very promising!
The challenge for doing Blacktron II as a GWP is the limited number of recolours and new prints that are available (I think the max is two, with both the Invader and Majisto's Workshop getting front/back torso printing), so even using trans-bright green would still require more 'changes' than GWPs normally allow (unless the unleaked Dreamzzz sets have more canopies in trans-bright green!); at best, we would get a set with no canopy (or one that can be replicated with in-production parts) and a direct remake of the OG Minifig but with a trans-bright green visor and no back printing. 🫤

If the potential BTII set is a GWP then its definitely not 1HY 2025, as far as I know

So does this mean that the rumoured Blacktron II item is 1HY? Or is the only thing for which we have concrete evidence the Blacktron I remake set, and Blacktron II is just more or less a guess at this point?
I am wondering if we might see Blacktron II in Dreamzzz - We have only seen one Minifig villain (neon yellow and purple colour-scheme), but the spiders are white-and-black, and the neon video game setting suits Blacktron II quite well. Maybe "Blacktron" and "Blacktron: Future Generation" are retro (80's/90's) video games in the Dreamzzz universe (as Ninjago is an animated show), and one of the villains of this season is a Blacktron II astronaut (or at least features pieces that can be used to make one)? 🤔

Was it actually retired in the way the mid-2000s colours were (as in, straight up not an option for inclusion in any sets going forward) or just discouraged from use? There's still a handful of TNG parts kicking about on Pick a Brick so at the very least they must still have some access to the colour

(And it wouldn't be the first time a colour has been brought back from retirement either. Let Dark Turquoise be a shining example of what could be)

A very fair point, we've all assumed it was discontinued in that way due to how the CMF went out of it's way to avoid it. I don't know if they'd be willing to make any new parts for it though even if it's soft retired, I imagine everything on bricks and pieces is old stock

@Renny The Spaceman is correct, they're just working through old stock from what I recall reading.

They are still in production, because they are included in Sets as far as I know. 4 of the 5 Parts are said to retire this year and the 5th is the 1x1 Round brick - where I wonder if they just forgot it in the list, since the only Set it should still be included is the Cantina, which also retires this year. But might be I missed anything.

Nice!
Did the leaker specify any difference between the pilot and crew Minifigs? Also, will the set include any droids? The original Renegade did not have one, but neither did the Galaxy Explorer; if the ships are similar in size, I can see us getting a beefed-up rover and a droid as side-builds.

Cool, this'll be the first time we get variants of Blacktron figures. Wonder if they'll all be modernised Blacktron designs or 2 will reuse the GWP figure. If so do we think the classic Blacktron fig will be retconned to be a pilot or a crew member

It's a good think I haven't built / ordered the parts for my Blacktron MOC version of 75293 yet! I guess until I see photos of the new set, this custom project will be on hold.

I´d actually be surprised if they would make one updated version and use the GWP version alongside. I would guess either they make two new versions, or it will actually just be one version, and the difference between pilots and crew will only be shown by helmet for instance, or they will just look the same and are only described as such, because two are sitting in the cockpit and the others not...

Well, shouldn´t be that long till we see pictures anyways.

While they do look more Mass Effect than some of the classic themes do, CS ’24-‘25 is no more realistic than something like Mars Mission. IMO, it just looks like Futuron if it were designed in the 2020’s instead of the 1980’s (and with blue swapped for orange).

I was not born yet til was only a small child when Classic Space, Blacktron and all these excellent classical Space themes were released. So I didn't get any of these sets. Nevertheless, when looking at pictures of these old sets plus looking at the new Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron Cruiser, I kike them much more than the most Space sets after the late ninetees and much, much more than all these City Space ("Port") sets.

Thanks for the news! 🙂

Although I would have prefered a space base over a vehicle, it is great news that we'll get a new retro Space set! 👍

It theoretically might be that the leaker only judged the different minifigures by the work they're doing in e. g. the box art (e. g. two minifigures are on the vehicle and two stand on the ground, repairing the "car").

But I think that it's more supposably that we indeed will get a new torso. Hopefully the two pilots have exactly the same torso like the one in the Blacktron Cruiser - otherwise this would be a huge disappointment. For the mechanics maybe they have the Blacktron sign on their torso? Very hard to guess.

Anyway it's great that there'll be four and not only two minifigs in this set. 👍
