Glad to hear you like it. And well they do often better in real life than in Pictures. And especially they tend to look bigger and more worth the money often ;).

The printed pieces are really good and the minifigs and robot are fantastic. Holding it in my hand it feels and looks like a hybrid between the original Renegade and 6982 Explorien Starship (a set that I like very much).

I saw it in a store display and it looks great. Not going to get it until a decent GWP comes along, but looking forward to it when I do.

Yeah same. Either a GWP or a discount. Eitherway I have time. But pretty sure it will also show up on an other retailer like the Galaxy Explorer did at Smythstoys.

Here it is. I really enjoyed building it. It looks even better in real life compared to the pictures.

Good to hear.

I might get it tomorrow in the nearest LEGO store, and at the same time see if the latest  CMF series are already available. And the new BAM line.

Do people expect Lego to march forward through the years with Space Police, Blacktron II, etc. issuing re-imagined sets?  Probably no one knows, but would be interested in opinions.

I think it's likely that we'll keep getting re-imagined sets from major 80s/90s themes, but I don't think they'll do every single subtheme, I think they'll stick to the favorites.  I think it's plausible that we get sets from themes like Wolfpack or Ice Planet 2002, but doubtful that they go for themes like Spyrius or Knight's Kingdom I.

Built the City Galactic Spaceship today! Really impressed with it overall—I love how it has several great configurations out of the box, even before breaking out any of the other sets from last year.

In general I've been very impressed with this City Space theme, but disappointed that I haven't come up with very many MOCs to expand it. A part of me wants to try to make something really big and impressive—like has anyone made a SHIP in this "theme" for SHIPtember? But that's probably a bit too ambitious for someone coming off a several year long "builder's block". Probably best to think smaller for now—I've had a couple of assorted ideas like a larger drill vehicle for the construction team that might be more achievable overall.

I would love to see more city space Mocs, there are a decent number on the lego space subreddit. Here are the 2 most impressive big SHIPs IMO -

And this one I love because its made of all the sets, so could be feasible maybe not a full reconstruction, but a close one?)

The Renegade instructions hint that a Futuron set is coming!

You have a screen of that hint?

They look really cool, especially like the Atlas one. But I don´t want to know how many bricks went into that build lol.

Oh awesome, thanks for sharing all these! I don't really use Reddit so haven't seen a lot of these awesome MOCs. Hopefully they'll provide me some inspiration!

Who knows if it's really a hint of what's to come, but this is what I think is the reference from Instruction booklet 2, page 78:

"More rocket power has been added to the Renegade via these fusion-activated energy pods. The range of the Renegade may now be able to reach Futuron bases in this quadrant we previously thought secure."

I don't think that's specifically a hint. Just a bit of flavor text tying the play features of the set into the wider Lego Space Universe.

That's not to say a Futuron set couldn't or wouldn't happen, just that Lego seeding hints of future sets is less common than AFOLs would usually like to believe, and a reference to an old theme is more likely to be referencing the older theme itself rather than some hypothetical remake in the future.

The Galaxy Explorer mentioned Blacktron. The Lion Knight's Castle mentioned Wolfpack. The Medieval Town Square mentioned Fright Knights. Now the Renegade is mentioning Futuron. It seems pretty blatant to me.

In the end it could hint towards futuron coming - or just reference towards and old theme, both already happened. Who knows, maybe the rumoured Blacktron 2 Set actually is a Futuron Set instead - or just includes both - or it is a blacktron 2 GWP and Futuron is supposed the next bigger Set - or something else ;).

It's a clear pattern. Right up the point that LEGO decides to do something different!

I do think I'd prefer Futuron over Blacktron 2 though.

If we're going by LEGO dropping a hint to a Futuron set, I wonder if the fact the reference is to "bases" could play a role...

What Futuron set would be sizable and iconic enough for an Icons remake than the Monorail anyways? :P

Wow. There's not much discussion about this set. It doesn't even have its own thread. Is it really that unpopular?

Something else I've been meaning to point out that I think is notable is that it may be the first time they've acknowledged that the Blacktron is bad guys and the camera is actually a laser gun. We all knew it before, but they came right out and said it this time.

The Lego leadership of today is a long way from that of the late 1980s.

Jang showed that the top of the alt build makes a really nice spaceship. I think it would have been a great standalone set. I'm not super into the walker itself, but this smaller ship really makes me want to go buy another copy of the set.

There's one thing about the set that does bug me. The gun at the nose of the ship is way off center. It drives me nuts when I pay attention to it.

There was a separate Renegade thread but it got locked for reasons unknown to me. Today I've built a landing pad for my Renegade so that I can display it alongside my Galaxy Explorer.

As someone who absolutely loves Space and Blacktron, I find the set so disappointing that I haven't even bought it yet. If it was halfway decent, it'd be a day one purchase.

I think I'll get it eventually. It's a parts pack, at least. The helicopter canopy in trans yellow & the prints are great.

I am also not super into the walker. Honestly, it's laughable. It doesn't look anything like the Alienator, and it has big dumb yellow clown feet. It looks like a bad MOC, not an official alt build.

Another thing that bugs me about the walker is the use of the arches in the support structure. The curves of the arches totally clash with the industrial look of the grilled wedge plates.

When I get my copy, I'm going to be very tempted to not even build the set, and just build something else with the parts. That's how unexcited I am about the official builds.

As someone who absolutely loves Space and Blacktron, I think the new Renegade is pretty darn good. I saw it on display at the Lego store a few days ago and it looked even better in person. I haven't bought it yet because I'm waiting for a good GWP. If there is, as rumored, a Blacktron II GWP later this year, then that'll be the time to snatch up the Renegade. But I don't like the B model well enough to plan on getting two copies. By contrast, I bought four copies of the Galaxy Explorer on day 1 - the A, B, and C models for me, plus one copy for my brother.

Given the large number of parts included I believe you can build a new MOC version of the Renegade that is more to your liking. It is so cool to have many Blacktron themed and colored parts available.
