For me the Monkie Kid spaceship this year is the best sci-fi spaceship set since a long time, especially if looking for something with non-standard colors and colored windscreens.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it Galaxy Explorer 2.0 (despite the name), but it does have some elements from that set like the big engines, and mini radar base that comes with it.

It doesn't have a real ramp to load/unload the included vehicle tho.

Monkie Kid Dragon Horse jet is still a very good single seater.

To be honest despite being named after the Galactic Explorer, I think it shares more design DNA with the Space Police Galactic Enforcer (AKA Mission Commander), which it actually alludes to with its wing stickers (which are labeled 6986 in homage to that set) as well as its trans-red windscreens, side windows, and general shape. The older name was probably just chosen because it's not a law enforcement vehicle like the Space Police set's name would imply.

True, could be a mix of both space police 1 and 2 (Galactic Mediator) , 2 having the double cockpit and the little vehicle wheel placement , 1 with the trans-red for sure + the helmets and side windows.

Seems to have some other references as well, there's a classic space figure on one of the monitors.

Looks like there is a new space building set for kids coming in Q3, comes with a book, map and cards and 2 minifigures and pieces to build spaceships and aliens. Name of the set is your galactic mission.

I just saw that the other day when checking AMEET's website. All the images and such are preliminary and so far don't seem to include any unique parts or prints for the figures (the astronauts reuse last year's underwater Ninjago sets, though being preliminary that could potentially change). To be honest I'm not 100% sure it's even coming out—it's listed on the web version of their catalog but not on the PDF downloadable version, and I don't know which is newer. If the web version is newer then it might have been a late addition to the release schedule, but if the PDF version is newer it may have been cancelled or delayed until next year.

Mission you say? There are three mission sets in the City summer wave.

Are you sure it’s a right name of the this spaceship buidling set? Like @Maple said, there is Mars Exploration Missions set from City theme, probably like People Packi back in 2017 or 2018.

There are three 'mission' sets from City; Mars, Wildlife and something else, water police?

I’m perfectly aware - that’s why I said “Mars Exploration Missions”. It’s Water Police Ingvestaiton (typo I know) Missions.

It's not City, it's totally something else, a big parts pack to build whatever you want.

Okay, what about set numbers? Piece counts?

Over 200 specifically selected elements. (Literally says that on the box.)
2 minifigures which aren't detailed yet as the box isn't finalized.
I'm not seeing a set number.
I think I can post a picture, if not feel free mods to delete it.

How much you want to bet none of those elements are a Space-colored windscreen (i.e. not trans-light blue or trans-grey etc) and none have Space logo?

Seems like this could be an exciting for Spacers but Lego is going to mess it up as usual.

Can I ask why you think this matters? Because from my perspective neither are really necessary components for something to be considered 'useful' for space builds.

It won't contain any decent parts. But if it included a Space colored windscreen which color would you like? You will never please everyone.

I want something evocative of classic Space themes. Trans red, trans blue, trans green, trans yellow, trans purple, etc. Something fun. Something with color.

Trans light blue is for cars. Trans clear/black is for Star Wars.

Not if you release a "Space" set without space colors or logos. But if you do include those things, you actually can please everyone. People who don't know at all about Classic Space won't care and will like it either way. But long time Space fans do care, so why not create a set that pleases them too?

I would want trans orange for Ice Planet.
Again, no matter what you wouldn't be happy. That's clear from these replies. It doesn't say 'space' anywhere on the box. It's a silly little book set thing that you make a space ship with.

I'm certainly VERY fond of fun bright colors, but I'm not averse to those more common windscreen colors, either. After all, I was a big fan of the Martian mechs from Life on Mars, the bad guy vehicles from Space Police 3, and the UFOs from Alien Conquest, even when they used fairly mundane windscreen colors.

I feel like how well those colors work in a Space context often depends on what shapes and what other colors you pair them with. Massive panoramic window canopies tend to feel futuristic and "spacey" no matter WHAT color you pair them with. It certainly wouldn't be as exciting as getting a vibrant new color for existing windscreen shapes, but I still think it can be a good fit for LEGO Space on a broader level.

After all, think back to how many Town sets in the 90s had transparent blue or green windscreens. It's not like putting those windscreens in "modern-day" sets made the ones in Aquanauts, Hydronauts, Exploriens, or Insectoids sets any less cool or futuristic! I think the same should apply to the windscreen colors that City sets tend to use today.

I just ordered the Chang'e Moon base set. It's too cute to pass up.

I can't get over the weird factor on the Galactic Explorer though. I do like the windscreens (which I'll Bricklink) and the radar base. Also the set has me wondering how cool a grey & teal spaceship would look with trans red windscreens...

Hmm, that color combination sort of reminds me of this concept from BrickJournal's old Jens Nygaard Knudsen interview, with a little bit of Rock Raiders DNA mixed in there as well. Sort of has me envisioning a fleet with urban/industrial vibes? Hmm. There are probably a lot of other directions you could go with that color scheme as well, of course.

Trans orange and Ice Planet are awesome! They should totally bring that theme back.

Also, whaaaaaaat?? I'm easily pleased. It doesn't take much. LEGO is just unwilling to do the bare minimum to please Space fans, unless there is a LEGO Movie being made, in which case the creators have to literally insist on Space sets being made. I forget where I read that...but it was Christopher Miller, and one of his own childhood Space sets was actually used in the film.

There's a coolness factor of transparent colored pieces that you just don't get with trans clear or trans light blue (the default "glass" color). Why not include an exciting colored windscreen in a one-off set, since we can already get the trans clear/light blue version in City sets? I mean it's just a missed opportunity.

Greytron! At least that's what Space MOCers have come to call that "theme". Teal blue would add a bit of a 90's sci-fi vibe, IMO.

For me it's the Chang'e moon base which evokes a Classic Space mood IMO.

I definitely can see how it gives you that impression! It's certainly one of the first lunar/planetary bases of this sort we've seen in a while, along with this year's City lunar base. Plus, launch sites for unmanned rockets are one of those distinctive features of Classic Space that you don't see as often in 2000s/2010s sci-fi themes, or even in space sets from the City theme — manned spacecraft are a lot more common in sets these days.

Also, although it primarily uses clear windscreens, I recently got to thinking about how non-purist builders could probably turn that 6x10x3 transparent windscreen from the base itself into a Transparent Yellow one for Blacktron or Classic Space MOCs using the tried-and-true permanent marker or turmeric methods.

No set number is because technically this is more of a Lego-licensed activity book with parts included rather than a "set" as such, sort of like the "Build Your Own Adventure" books Lego and AMEET have produced for other themes in the past. You can see more information here: https://www.ameet.eu/lego-books/ameet-lego-books-2022-publishing-program/

And yeah, though the pics are preliminary they likely give an idea of what this will include—probably no new parts or prints but an assortment of existing parts with a book full of inspirational models and instructions. It's just something that's supposed to be fun for kids and help to get them building creatively. Not something worth being bitter about because it's not a whole new theme.

You are living in this delusional world were it's 1980. It's not. It's not a Space set, it's a space ship.

Here's an idea, LEGO made a space ship set with two dark trans red windows. Go buy that. It even has Galactic in the name.
