Do we have any ideas on that space series? Does it mean space vaguely as a concept (aka: could it be avatar, Star wars, etc themed) or is a space themed series like that halloween one from awhile ago (series 14?) "Space" is pretty much all we know at the moment, nothing more specific than that. However, I'm leaning slightly toward it being licensed, if only because 1.) I remember seeing something about a "Wizards" series that ended up being the first Harry Potter series, and 2.) the unlicensed series that had distinct themes still followed the general numbering (Series 14 and 18). And Seires 23 - it’s another series of costumes. anyways, we should know the actual name of the second series of 2024 - we knew Looney Tunes and Muppets by September in 2020 and 2021 respectively. So i think we will know more about Space series in a few months (hopefully). Quote
jodawill Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 There's a rumor that a new space set is coming in October. Set 10391, an 18+ set. $99.99 US, 966 pieces. What do you all suppose this is? I suppose it could be a Blacktron set since those torsos are still in stock on PAB. Quote
Khargeust Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I just saw it. Also "includes a large black spaceship (not confirmed to be blacktron). Comes with 2 minifigures with different heads and hair for customization. Rumored to release in October but likely pushed to April 2024." It would make sense for it to be a Blacktron ship but in this case it would be 25% more expensive than the Galaxy Explorer proportional to the number of parts. Strange. But two things tell me that it probably won't be that: - the presence of stickers in the 40580 Blacktron Cruiser and no printed parts that could be use in a new set; - the possibility to customize figurines Quote
brimbolet Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 more rumored space related sets: 40712 Space GWP in January; 40687 Space GWP in May; 40715 Alien Pack in May; 40716 Alien Habitat in May Quote
danth Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I hope the spaceship is Blacktron, because what else would make sense? However as a Space fan I'm very wary of getting hopes up. The alien stuff sounds cool. Here's hoping for a Seatron habitat! 2024 could be amazingly lit for us Space fans, or a huge psyche out. @Classic_Spaceman Quote

Yellow since flesh colored are reserved for licenced figs but this custom thing sounds very intriguing to me to the point where I wonder if this new set really has anything to do with a Space set as we understand it. Customization is intrinsic to LEGO, I don't understand why the emphasis is put on this feature, especially for Space where the minifigures often have helmets. Really, it raises questions. I feel like they would have alternate heads - one classic smiley face and one modern smiley? Male with heads with different flesh ones and female head with different flesh tones? And different hairs for them? I just can’t see that way they do flesh tones. 1 hour ago, SpacePolice89 said: I also believe and hope that they'll be yellow but the table football game has flesh colored minifigs with different heads and hair pieces and that's not a licensed set. https://www.lego.com/en-fi/product/table-football-21337 I also believe and hope that they'll be yellow but the table football game has flesh colored minifigs with different heads and hair pieces and that's not a licensed set. https://www.lego.com/en-fi/product/table-football-21337 And we have Groom and Bride BrickHeadz. They have different pieces to reflect their flesh tone and they are not “licensed”. Quote

danth Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Someone elsewhere reminded me that the Space Police flagship, 6986 Mission Commander, also had a lot of black. I still think the Blacktron Renegade makes more sense though. Or if we want to get really weird... Quote

I still think the Blacktron Renegade makes more sense though. The Mission Commander is blue with black as a secondary colour, so unless the image was very blurry (in which case, how would the person who saw it know about the head-swapping feature?), I doubt that it would be described as a “black spaceship”. Renegade is the only thing that makes any sense. 6 hours ago, danth said: Or if we want to get really weird... The main colour here is green, though. 🫤 BTW, what are our guesses for the GWPs? Since the original Forestmen’s Hideout had 194 pieces and two Minifigs, and the original Blacktron Invader had 148 pieces and one Minifig, I think that we can extrapolate some likely candidates for GWP remakes. My guesses are the 6897 Rebel Hunter, 6895 Spy-Trak I, and 6923 Particle Ionizer; other possibilities that lie just outside the range are the 6891 Gamma V Laser Craft and 6931 FX-Star Patroller. Quote
Black Falcon Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Well, since not all GWPs have the same size anyways, I would guess one might be a little ground vehicle, like LEGO 1558 Mobile Command Trailer or the LEGO 6876 Alienator. My guess for the second GWP would be LEGO 6877 Vector Detector or LEGO 6923 Particle Ionizer Quote
jonwil Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 I would be supprised if they did an mtron gwp due to the retirement of trans neon green. Same with ice planet due to trans neon orange being gone. Something like the 6686 galactic peace keeper seems like it would work as a gwp. That or the 6895 Spy-Trak 1 would work great as a good guy to bust the blacktron bad guy and could feature the buzz lightyear ship windscreen in trans red. Quote

Looking at the Vector Detector by today’s standards, it seems like a polybag build. I do think that the Alienator is a possibility, though, and would be a good choice. 47 minutes ago, jonwil said: I would be supprised if they did an mtron gwp due to the retirement of trans neon green. Along these lines, we do not currently have a large enough trans-green canopy for the SPII Rebel Hunter (and it would also require at least four new prints!), so that actually seems more unlikely as I continue to think about it. 50 minutes ago, jonwil said: Something like the 6886 galactic peace keeper seems like it would work as a gwp. We generally do not get recolours in GWPs, but both this and this are currently in-production in trans-red. I am leaning more towards the Spy-Trak I over the Galactic Peace Keeper, since it is larger, and since we need a decent ground vehicle after getting so many ships and tiny rovers/hovercraft. Also, these wheels are available in black! Quote
Classic_Spaceman Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Thinking about it more, the best options are probably the Blacktron I Alienator and the Space Police I Spy-Trak I; both would tie in with a scaled-up Renegade, both can be made with existing parts and minimal new prints, and they would provide a nice conflict dynamic with each other. jonwil Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 The flowerpot gwp got an exclusive recolor of the balloon panel piece in cool yellow so it can happen. Quote

Good point, though I am not sure that we can consider it to have originated in the GWP if we see it reappear within the next few months (it came out in April). The Forestmen torso and shield were obviously made for the Lion Knights’ Castle, and the GWP just got them a bit early, so there is precedent for this. Another factor may be the “change” budget for GWPs - Maybe we can get new prints or a recolour, but not both. 🫤 Quote

Well we will see but I wouldn´t wonder if they do that kind of GWPs in different sizes. As for the Vector, I think it depends on how true they want to stay to the original. I mean obviously the builds will get modernised, and the vector would need quite some modernisation. So it would likely end up beeing a bit bigger - the question would be though, is it still recognizable enough as the vector, and likely it isn´t. So yeah, they might choose something else. but wouldn´t wonder if we see an M-tron GWP this year Quote

They definitely could update the Vector Detector to modern standards, IMO, but since the Particle Ionizer is more iconic and easier to adapt, I feel like that would be what we get if there is an M;Tron GWP.
