Are we talking about SpaceX rocket?

Yes, because you brought it up.

ok, BUT good news, now we know release date "black spaceship" and also we get SpaceX rocket, is that sci-fi then...!?

Hold on, SpaceX Rocket? Was that one we talked about before - the lion ensued space set?

I understan that it’s cancelled but i wonder if it’s the same thing the rumors we heard before.

No; this rumour was from 2022.

Could you or someone else tell what is LEGO Space? Older sets for example or upcoming?

Bricklink has a handy list of Space themes:

     Alien Conquest
     Blacktron I
     Blacktron II
     Classic Space
     Exploriens
     Futuron
     Galaxy Squad
     Ice Planet 2002
     Insectoids
     Life on Mars
     M:Tron
     Mars Mission
     RoboForce
     Space Police I
     Space Police II
     Space Police III
     Spyrius
     UFO
     Unitron

I am not sure if any are missed from a Eurobricks perspective.

The main difference here on Eurobricks, and the reason for the subtitle (unlike a list, like Action and Adventure Themes) is that all Science Fiction MOCs that are not already a LEGO License or have been a License (Like Marvel and DC, Star Wars, Overwatch and Doctor Who) would belong here. If someone were to make a Star Trek model, that would go here because LEGO doesn't have a license. If you make a Steampunk or Cyberpunk vehicle or vignette, that would belong here in SciFi. A generic Alien World with no IP or LEGO theme would belong. If you were to build a Moon Rocket inspired by From the Earth to the Moon, or a Robotics lab inspired by Asimov: All SciFi. Halo, Doom, Armoured Core : Those games are SciFi but not Licensed by LEGO so you would have the MOCs here.

Science Fiction is indeed a broad brush. That Arctic theme of science and discovery? Put a defrosted monster or alien crash? SciFi (also y'know... The Thing) because aliens are there.

I have described Action and Adventure themes in the past as Too Normal for SciFi but too Weird for City. So the case for SciFi would be Not normal/grounded enough for Action Themes. To fantastic for City.

You guys say Arctic isn't Sci-Fi but wait until you see the Arctic Drill Mech and the Seal Rescue Hover-ski.

I'd say it's somewhat connected, but also not. 2000 designs just looked somewhat more sci-fi due to the larger windscreens and darkblue color.

2018 was the only Arctic wave with no space rocks /  ice boulders, as it had those frozen animals instead (including insects) , and if the owner of the set, decides animals are just "dead" then it's pretty much 0% sci-fi at all.

2000 had space rocks with neon spiders, 2014 had boulders with crystals (doesn't have to be space rocks as they look pretty much round and smooth), and 2023 had this darker colored "moon" rock also found in the 2022 City Launch base. (darker color compared to the rocks found on the moon itself in sets)

Sci-fi things are not always about spaceships, aliens, or meteors.

We have dinosaurs being resurrected by cloning DNA (Jurassic Park), we have fighting robotic suits (Ninjago), we have mobile castle and tech savvy wizard (Nexo Knights), we have prehistoric creature being discovered by humans (City Arctic 2018).

I’m just saing sci-fi gene is very board.

Off the back of this discussion I looked up what the exact definition of sci-fi is, and there's a whole Wikipedia page dedicated to its various definitions... As John Campbell put it, "science fiction is what I say it is"

So it seems very subjective. The basic tenet seems to be fictional elements, based wholly or partially on existing science, that are essential or important to the plot of a given story. I guess that's why, to me, the original Arctic theme doesn't 'feel' like sci-fi. The fictional element - the neon spiders encased in ice or meteors - could be completely forgotten about (ahem), and the sets would still work, I think. I can now see how it fits under the sci-fi banner, though.

Perhaps it comes down to personal preference too - I prefer a bit more 'fi' in my sci-fi!

I wouldn't call "digging up prehistoric arctic creatures" sci-fi. (there have absolutely been real-world instances of preserved Mammoths and things being discovered and dug up)

I don't either, but if they were somehow brought back to life, then yes, there's some fantasy going on,

But the sets themselves, are pretty much just exploration, as yes, mummified mammoths  have been found with hair intact.

Anyway for 2024, I built the 4+ City spaceship and it still looks good on the stand borrowed from 3-in-1 31126: Supersonic-jet, and the extra white nose slope makes it look better then the 2019 smaller ship side by side imo.

No, I meant to say “LIVING” prehistoric animals being discovered by humans.  I mean mammoths and saber-toothed tigers seemed more lively than dead… I guess I needed to mention “liviing” word in the first place.  It’s a sci-fi way to resurrect them out of imgination.

Sure digging up and discovering DEAD  annimals in real wor le is not sci-fi.

WHEN JURASSIC PARK WAS NAMED ONE OF THE MOST REALISTIC SCI-FI MOVIES EVER BY NASA . . . . .

  • Moonfall
  • Gattaca
  • Contact
  • The Thing From Another World
  • Jurassic Park

. . . from harvesting dinosaur blood from prehistoric mosquitoes to combining old dino DNA with the DNA of frogs to make all-new living, breathing dinosaurs.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Very interesting ARTICLE - explains WHY for example Jurassic Franchise is sci-fi.

This sub-forum is for discussing sets and posting mocs that are sci-fi in nature and don't belong to a different sub-forum. Jurassic Park belongs in the Licenced sub-forum, not here, it doesn't even matter if it's sci-fi or not (it is sci-fi action/horror). Please pay attention to the forum, a staff member already told you what goes in here. Basically 95% of all that belongs in here is Space, since I think the underwater themes go in Action & Adventure

I hope this is the right topic to place this (and that it hasn't been told somewhere else already), but an image of an upcoming GWP has appeared in the usual place, called 'Micro Rocket Launchpad' which I'm sure a lot of you will like.
Heck, I'm not that into the classic Space theme and I'm loving it :sweet:

Regards,
Mith

Oh, boy, this may be the GWP I've been waiting for.  Have at least one large set on my Lego wishlist, so when this becomes available I'll be making some kind of purchase (or maybe two or three!)

One site mentioned $100 purchase threshold for the GWP, but I suspect it will be higher given how much is in this set.

Classic space fans, there is hope for 2024!
