The Tic Tac Toe set with orange and white space men leaked. It's horrific.

No air tanks, modern visors that DO NOT FIT the classic helmets, and non-classic smileys.

That is overstating things a bit - I would prefer classic heads, and the lack of airtanks when both colours are still in-production is extremely frustrating, the set overall is decent for a GWP (especially since PAB Bestseller parts can be used to get to GWP thresholds, so you can pick up some heads and airtanks on order to get this set as a bonus!).
As for the visors, I agree that they do not really look good on the Classic-style helmets (at least in clear - Maybe an opaque colour would look OK?), but the fact that the updated Classic helmets are compatible with visors is a good thing overall - Speaking of, when are we getting a modernised version of the Yellow Castle knights’ visors? Those would be great for knights that just wear shoulder armour, since the slimmer sides would not interfere with the shoulders and the faceplate would not jut out over the torso oddly (the houndskull visor really needs a breastplate piece to balance it out, IMO)!

Not really. Using this visor with the classic helmet means they really don't care at all about getting things right. This visor does NOT FIT this helmet correctly. There is always a gap. The bottom curve of the visor  matches the curve of the motorcycle helmet chinstrap and many other helmets. But not the classic helmet. The visor looks terrible on the classic helmet.

And this is now the second release of the Classic Space minifig without the air tank. There was also 40715 where the air tank was the wrong color. Each time this happens, it normalizes it and makes it more likely we won't get air tanks (or the right air tanks) with Classic Space minifigs in the future.

The smiley I don't really care about as much, but on top of the other stuff, it's really diluting what it means to be a Classic Space minifigure. I mean, you're already accepting it, acting like it's worth it to get this and buy air tanks separately. It's not.

This all presupposes that LEGO is trying to pass these Minifigs off as true Classic Space, but that is obviously not the case - Two of the three examples are GWPs with no reference at all to CS aside from the Minifigs (no classic colours, ships, etc), and the third is a LEGO-exclusive quasi-Creator set that acts more as an add-on to the City Space line than than to anything CS (though we do get a little reference to the theme in the included rover’s colours). I think that LEGO is presenting these Minifigs as their own thing, similar to Neo-Classic Space (just with the modernised CS helmets instead of motorcycle helmets, and occasionally no airtanks) - That would explain the clear visors and modern heads!

IMO it is worth noting that “what it means” to be a Classic Space Minifig is entirely constructed by the FOL community after the fact - The original line was just called Space, the helmets were the only helmet part in production (used across Town, Castle, and Space), and the “Standard Grin” heads were just the default of their day. This era of the Space theme only became known as “Classic Space” after LEGO moved on to what we consider to be the faction era of Space, and its distinction was marked by its use of older parts.
As such, I am not really concerned with the “accuracy” of references to Classic Space in GWPs, City sets, Creator sets, etc, as these are meant to be references to the spirit of the original theme rather than to its exact designs. For direct remakes, however (such as the Galaxy Explorer), I do want the Minifigs to look like the OGs!

For me, what is important is that we get Classic Space torsos, classic-style helmets, and airtanks, all in the same colours and at roughly the same time; the head and legs are common, and I am fine with cobbling CS Spacemen together - What matters is that I have them (affordably!), not how I made them!

If you look closely to the rendered picture, one of the helmet's visor is rendered in an upside down position. (The second orange spacefig from the right.) I don't know what to say...

Is it a render? It looks real to me - Especially considering the little errors like upside-down visors (a few of the Minifigs have them) and torsos that are not pressed completely down on the legs.

Honestly, I don't know, maybe not, but to my eyes, the whole picture looks very unrealistic.

I don't get why they constantly do this? They know how popular the classic spacemen are and it's impossible for them to include a complete one in sets such as this one. They always try to mix in some random pieces or leave out the air tanks. Some completely new design of Space minifig would be much better than this.

They could have easily left out the clear visors and included air tanks instead.  Agree this makes little sense to do as the visors look out of place on those helmets.  That being said, if this is a GWP for either Insiders weekend or Black Friday, I'll try to get one if the purchase threshold is not too high.

No idea why they aren´t just using the classic figures like it has to be, but aside from that, I am actually happy they used the right helmet. On the first bad quality pictures you could see the visors so, that and not including the air tanks isn´t really a surprise anymore.

Eitherway because of the visors I was afraid they would have used the normal helmets aswell.

Now, for me, its going to be a wait for the 'normal' motor helmet (which can handle visors just fine). I like to have both options available if there's a need for it.

Yay! Three honest, critical takes instead of the typical sanewashing of terrible decisions by Lego. A breath of fresh air!

I agree these figs should have airtanks, but if you don't like the visors you can just not put them on - It's not like they are glued on the helmets!

Like maybe I'm being too cynical here but the fact LEGO now not only piecemeals new CS figs but also the old ones kinda screams corporate to me. Like we took often discard the fact that they own the biggest secondary market for LEGO now, both the right air tanks and heads are on bricks and pieces, they know they could have included either the right head or air tanks, either one being included would make this better and keep the orange figure exclusive if we or they care about that now (though I thought both us and LEGO were in agreement that making collectable figures TLG advertised as exclusive readily available was a cool thing they can and should keep doing)

There can be plenty reasons behind it honestly. I could also see them doing it, to make sure everyone knows they are not actually classic space minifigures and as such not part of the classic space theme, like the Galaxy Explorer was. At least that would be a reason that would make sense to me, but ofc there can always be plenty of other reasons for it.

IDK, they have plenty of other space parts available, if they don't want them to be CS figures why not use two colours of the City space figures?

I mean, for a game like Tic Tac Toe it's probably ideal to have markers that are fully colored differently instead of only partially. I expect the functional purpose of it as a game for kids was a bigger consideration than its suitability as a parts pack.

Or the two were balanced (Classic Space battle pack and game for kids) - I can see the visors being a concession to kids who wonder how CS spacemen can survive in space with open helmets!

It'd be cool if they finally made a visor that truly fit classic space helmets! Or at least the new version of the helmet. I wonder if they could make a "reversible" visor where the bottom curve fits the classic helmet, and if turned upside down fits the motorcycle helmet.

The issue is that for a visor to be thick enough on the side attachments not to break, it will protrude somewhat awkwardly from the sides of the helmet.
The main issue that I see, however, is not the sides but the front - The faceplate needs to be longer, similar to a welding mask. Not that I think LEGO will make it (for obvious reasons!), but a riot police visor element would both fit the CS helmet better and be reusable for City.
More realistically, I would like to see a knight’s visor based on the Classic Castle design (see the YC) that fits the updated CS helmet; the houndskull visor is nice, but it protrudes forward awkwardly when the Minifig in-question is not wearing a breastplate, and the sides of that visor interfere with the double-shoulder armour piece. An updated CC visor would solve both of these problems, as well as give us a bit more variety in our knights!

Is that because the new Classic Space helmet is thicker/wider than the standard motorcycle helmet (at least where the visor attaches)?

Wait, I have both helmets right here by my desk. I just looked at both and yeah, I think the new CS helmet is a little bit thicker. If I put a visor on the CS helmet, the sides of the visor aren't parallel like they are on the motorcycle helmet. They're splayed out a bit.

Wait, what about clone trooper visors? I don't want to dig mine out right now, but after looking at pics I think the clone trooper helmet is wider at the visor attachment point than the motorcycle helmet.

Does this mean there are at least two different visor widths instead of a single standard?

There are not two visor widths, nor are the CS helmets stretching the visors - The difference is that while the motorcycle helmet curves out from the divots where the visors attach (making the visor more flush with the helmet), the CS helmets are cylindrical (so the visor appears stretched or oversized).

Does anyone know if theres a specific thread for the blacktron renegade remake coming in January or is this the one? I just wanted to get peoples opinions on if the cargo modules from the blacktron cruiser GWP are gonna be compatible with the new renegade?

It's supposed to be this thread, as this is the ongoing topic about upcoming space sets.
