LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I feel there is a bit of a flaw in the habitat section though. The top cover is round. The wall windows and supports above them are rounded. But LEGO uses those straight-angled bricks for the first layer.

The bottom uses four 6x6 wedge plates, which form four-stud wide ends that fit the airlock pieces without any unsightly overhang; there are no curved plates with the right dimensions that also come to a 1x4 'point'. Using curved (macaroni) bricks for the first layer might look better, but it could also cause stability issues.

I don't think they actually fit, unless their underside has a way for the Technic pins to nest into each other - they're 4 plates + 1 stud thick, so 2 of them with the pins in the space between them would be 11 plates thick and not fit in a 4 stud wide hold.

I was assuming that the pin plates would need to be removed.

Joining in on the speculation, the transparent module looks to be fairly empty other than a small stud on the wall for holding the helmet and a warning sticker? im assuming that is where the little drone goes, or the EVA suit. This has already been fairly speculated tho so I want to propose my own idea for the covered module. given it doesnt have crew access but does have a window, a reactor is a solid bet, but I also think an area for the alien, like a microhabitat could be possible. We had a space for the humans to live on the alien planet, so maybe a place for the aliens to live on a human spaceship wouldn't be out of the question? I also feel like this would be shown on the back of the box though.

In other news, Renegade should be revealed tomorrow (18th).

Yeah, upon examining some of the other photos and the 360° turnaround video the center module has two helmet racks on one side and a charging station for the drill robot on the other. And there seems to be a flat (possibly hinged) piece behind the window in the cockpit... possibly a bed like the one in the cylindrical hub?

Found it out on a discord server run by one of the new-ish leakers, Claybricks. Theres a LOT of people hyped for this set. Guess we will find out tomorrow though.

In an earlier post you said it was official and not a leak?

Sorry should have specified, official.

Okay, a wait of between 12 - 24 hours then. I *think* I can live with that... ;)

I don’t know man… quick flight to Denmark, storm the lego HQ, locate the vault… could all be done in under 12 hours. I’m sure we can throw together a team.

Looks like you never met Danish Customs.

Yeah, the date was provided by Claybricks himself to the users in a Chatroom called “Blacktron waiting room”. Said “reveal is set for the 18th right now” and we haven’t heard anything otherwise since the 4th of December.

I misunderstood your first comment. I thought that official meant directly from Lego. Anyways this is great news. I haven't been this excited for a new set since the Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron Cruiser. I hope that the new Renegade has the same design style as the Blacktron Cruiser and similar minifigs.

Wonder how many stickers it will have???

This is the main question I have.

It's Space, it's Blacktron, and I assume the design will be awesome for the most part. So I don't expect any problems other than stickers.

If they use stickers for the main logo or the control console, that'll just ruin it. Maybe then can figure out how to use tiles for that stuff à la 10497.

It’s hereeeeeeeeeeree

Hmmmmm I don’t know how to feel about this. Some aspects I like, there’s clear modularity and the ship itself has the shape, but parts just look off. The cockpit, the nose, the little side vehicles. I like the rover though. I’m gonna need to see more pics!

I was hoping it would be cross compatible with the GWP Invader, but I'm not hugely surprised it's not. Disappointed, but not surprised. Maybe the other pictures will show it off better tomorrow.

Ok so given some time to mull it over, the biggest issue is the fact they dropped the whole “off centre” vibe which makes the renegade… yk the renegade? This looks like 2 random ships they bolted together. I think the ship does have modular compatibility with the blacktron cruiser, but I can’t see how it would improve it TBH. This is going to be a very divisive set but I’m sure I and many others will get it anyways.

I also think we have been spoiled by some amazing ran recreations that set our expectations too high. It also looks mighty small for £100.

landing gears a nice touch though.

To be fair, it's a modern update of the original. It just doesn't feel anything special. I don't know what you'd do with it. There doesn't seem to be much room inside any of it. The buggy presumably fits in there somehow, and I wonder if it has a fun release mechanism. But first impressions are that it's a bigger version of the original without it being bigger for a reason. I hope more images and a video or two reveal more that we're mising.
