I don't know what you'd do with it. There doesn't seem to be much room inside any of it. The buggy presumably fits in there somehow, and I wonder if it has a fun release mechanism. But first impressions are that it's a bigger version of the original without it being bigger for a reason. I hope more images and a video or two reveal more that we're mising. This is a very very good point. No room inside other than the cockpit itself makes it feel like an oversized strike fighter, not the flagship it’s meant to be. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the original had more room inside to fit figures with that central back section that’s been omitted in the remake. I think the rover is dropped from the back truss, there’s a red lever looking thing in the middle and the rovers shape screams “lift here” in the centre. I imagine it will be like the Mars mission dropship. Well at the end of the day if I don’t like it, guess I’ll funnel the funds into another city intergalactic spaceship. Honestly I think the build may be better than this. Quote

Honestly I think the build may be better than this. The central back section was storage for the rover on the original. It looks like this version opts to beef up the rover and deploy it more like a dropship as opposed to having it enclosed. I'm kind of mixed about it so far. It's definitely a lot less refined-looking than the Galaxy Explorer, but then the ship it's based on probably has a lot to do with that (the Renegade is far from my favorite classic spaceship). But there's elements I do like, like the nose and the way they've used scaffolding to evoke the original's industrial look. Seeing more pics, video, and reviews might help me to crystalize my opinion, but I don't hate it. Quote
Artanis I Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 The leaked photo does not make it look great. I hope it has alternate modes (I don't mean alternate builds) that look better. The original was awkward looking, this version has copied that, made it less plate-y, but not made it sleek. It's too much of an homage in a bad clunky way. I wonder how it looks next to the 2 Invaders. It looks like a bunch of gantries with a cockpit. 3 original (or previously reissued) minifigs is a tick, the robot is a tick, the buggy is a tick. Looks like it gets picked up by the ship in Rebel Hunter style. Tick. If the ship sucks, it's at least a great parts pack for something custom. Quote
danth Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 I won't believe this is real until I see it on Lego's website. Lego just...doesn't release sets this poorly designed. Quote
SpacePoliceIII Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 The old head in the sand tactic, eh? I like it personally. Looks like its full of play functions. Quote
R0Sch Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Glad I'm not the only one disliking the Blacktron Renegade remake. This smaller MOC looks way better than the LEGO model and it has some cool transformation features too: Quote

All the hate it is getting is a bit unfair because it follows the design language of Blacktron 1 and fits right in with all the previous sets. I was afraid that the set was going to be too much modernized but that's fortunately not the case. I'm so happy that the minifigs are original (backprinting is okay) and will order more of them from Pick a Brick. I will order/preorder the new Renegade as soon as it is available. Quote

GeoBrick Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 I like the no-nonsense look of the craft. The beefed-up engine nacelles, the truss work more in front sweeping to the blunt attachment points in front where the modules are attached. Very up-your-face of the designer. Let's hope the landing gear is retractable. There's another element used for the pads, so maybe enough place there with the technic parts that are used. That rover is slick, just something in Blacktron's alley. A very cybertruck feel. Not sure if there are still small manned craft on the wings. The angle of the picture isn't good enough to see if there's room for a pilot behind the yellow triangle assembly. Maybe they're just drones. Let's pray those are prints and not stickers. Especially for the flag piece in front of the cockpit. I hate applying stickers on multi-angled elements. I'm kinda curious if it would be possible to turn the design in a monohull ship with the wings on the sides. And the slogan on the picture, "Blacktron 2025", reminds me so much of that old scifi soap title: "Space: 1999". Quote

a guy from somewhere Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 if it follows the normal LEGO reveal cycle, it should be officially revealed in just under and hour. 2pm GMT is the normal time I’ve found for sets to be put up. Ok a blurry picture of the back of the box leaked, it’s 47x30 cm. The splitting parts are - 2 engines on the back cockpit and front module at the front of the 2 sections 2 side drones and the rover goes in the middle. The central truss of the ship does not separate into 2 parts, likely for structural reasons. Back of the box is an all black background with no blacktron type design other than a yellow brick trim. jodawill Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Is that wedge piece with the mesh in the center a new part? Quote

Nope, dates back to the Exploriens theme. Official reveal is out and with the alternate pics I'm liking it a lot more. The dropship function looks nice and I love that it has an Alienator-inspired alt build. Both the set and the alt build take more liberties with the source material than the Galaxy Explorer did but I feel like it's generally for the better. Edited December 18, 2024 by Lyichir Quote

RichardGoring Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Designer interview with Tiago Catarino. He shows the alt builds. They're nice, but a little bit of a shame that it's not a transform function. The main cockpit and all the removable modules (except the rover) are still separated from the alt build, so can be used with it. No stickers, all prints. The side ships can have figures, if you move down the yellow triangles. It definitely looks better in the video than the original image. The walking feature of the alienator alt build is terrific though! At $100 it definitely feels like good value. It's a chunky set and I like the various play options. Fortunately, original impressions were not held up and it's better than it looked. I looked forward to some reviews and seeing it in-person. Edited December 18, 2024 by RichardGoring Quote
Lion King Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Is this spaceship recovering El Dorado or Forestmen’s Hideout’s treatment? Quote

a guy from somewhere Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Ok with the full reveal now out, yeah im definitely liking it a lot more. £10 less than the leak specified, and the rover fills in the centre much much more than I expected. The alt builds are a nice touch and im sure there will be so many more amazing alternate builds that come out when fans get their hands on it. Modularity with the cruiser looks to be there as well. Now we need a Battrax, my favourite of the OG blacktron sets. 8/10 set IMO. Official reviews start tomorrow. Quote
Lyichir Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 Oh, the video helps a lot to visualize all the functions/modularity. Love the Alienator's shuffle-walk—I've often remarked that I miss that classic function showing up in sets, since it's still possible with modern parts. Quote

Yeah I’ve just gotten to that part in the video. Looks like the clip parts need to be swapped around by one stud to the left or right. The alienator build is very impressive. Quote
