You are right.

What kinda sets you want technic to make? for 2014 we get alot of "regular cars", imo just too many simple cars with no special functions. The only set who stand out is the construction crew.

For 2015 i want to see a set never made earlier as their flagship. Why not a huge mining excavator or a 8wd timberjack/john deere based forwarder

Alex, I felt the same exact way about the same exact set when I was roughly about the same age(I got that set when I was in first grade which would have been right around 1981).. I used to go into the department store when my mom went shopping and just stare at the inside of the box trying to analyze how everything worked. Then when I finally got it, I built and rebuilt so many times that i could build it from memory... That was probably the most important Lego set that I ever had... Ah memories...

One thing i always wondered about 8860... what's the thing with the springs in the rear?

Were there any sets that were actually sold with the springs made out of connectors and separate springs, or was that just for the photo on the box?

There's been debate about it (in an old topic). I think the conclusion was that nobody actually had those springs. They were probably preliminary images, although they ended up on the box.

(Correct me if I'm wrong)

That was also my guess. I guess, lego realised that separate springs are not a good idea.

Maybe it was due to a certain time restraint. Final parts still in production, while the box needed to be printed, or something along that line.

8860 was my favourite too, I have very similar memories of shopping and construction to you guys!

I wonder who the designer was, and if they are aware of the huge influence they have had? There must be many engineers who received their inspiration from this set.

And consider that those sets were designed in 1980 and were still amazing 6 years later (they still are actually).

Another amazing thing about those sets is that they used such a relatively small amount of specialised pieces. Especially compared to today.

If I remember corrctly the lone springs were scrapped late due to safety issues because it was too easy for them to fly off and hit a child in the eye and the boxes were already printed...

The longest one that I can think of is the Elphinstone road train by 2legoornotto2lego.

Yesterday was the strangest day... for the past week or more it's been about 30 degrees or less, and snowing. Yesterday, though, all the sudden, it was about 70 degrees and felt like April (although it isn't unusual to have sudden weather changes in Maryland). Where I live, when the weather is nice, people will drive around their old cars. This is where this post gets more on topic. I wasn't able to get any pictures, but I saw many classic cars and many different kinds of rods, which I may build in the future. I saw an old orange Ford F-100, an old mid 40s Chevy, a bunch of old VW Beetles, a bunch of hot rods, rat rods, and street rods. But strangest of all, I saw an old Jeep hot rod. Sorry for the long post, but these cars really inspired me.

I built a tank tread setup, and each road wheel has trailing arm suspension. However, when the suspension is compressed, the track tends to "derail" from the sprocket wheels. Does anyone know a simple and robust solution to this?

Pics of your setup would be helpfull.
