D3K Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I've just looked at the offical Lego technic webpage, and they uploaded some funny videos: Hah, they are great, hadn't seen them before! I like that they included some of the B-models so prominently! Quote

JGW3000 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I've been *slowly* building the 8480 Space Shuttle - unlike our modern part-at-a-time instruction books, the instructions for this one is just jam-packed with parts in each step, with many needing to be placed in non-obvious locations throughout the structure. I can only stand to build for at most 2 hours or so, and the going is slow. I guess kids were smarter back in the '90's, or maybe I'm getting older and slower . The single instruction book, at only about 60 pages for both the A and B model, is much thinner than what you get now, even for smaller sets. In any case, there should be no complaints about the so-called excessively dumbed-down style of current instruction books, and as others have pointed out in other forum posts recently, building with beer is not compatible with dense-part count instructions. Samer Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Ready to build 42029. First the B model, keep it few days, and then go for the bigger more important A model which may stay displayed much longer. Edited February 14, 2016 by Samer Quote
Jay Psi Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) Cross post from the 42056 thread, but if a mod thinks it's better suited elsewhere then who am I to stop you from moving it? After all I know whole college, high school, etc., curriculum programs that are build around Technic or NXT sets. Not sure it is fair to say there is no interest in the US in Technic....... just that perhaps it palls in comparison to other genres..... From my work in education (UK, EU) I've seen the massive lift to interaction and engagement Lego can have with pupils from 3-18, particularly Technic to teach mechanical concepts (and the oft-neglected mathematics that accompanies it...) and Mindstorms for electronics, computing and of course, robotics. Increasingly education professionals are also extending the use of Duplo and System as a vehicle for "structured play" beyond the early years setting it was confined to. However even in these situations, there is a disconnect in the minds of the children and adults in the way they think about Technic/Mindstorms and everything else. Ironically I think that it is precisely because the former have been used so extensively and successfully to aid teaching that they are now widely viewed as the "educational" arms of Lego as are therefore more closely associated with a formal education setting than other themes. This means that when the time comes to think of Lego as a toy Mindstorms and (particularly) Technic are incorrectly shunned as themes that work well in the classroom, but not in the living room. Because we can't be learning and playing at the same time, that would be terrible... Edited February 19, 2016 by Jay Psi Quote
syclone Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Recently discovered that I have six sets for which there are reviews needed( From technic index). From what I have a question - is it obligatory to pass the reviewers Academy or it is preferable? Also recently found this on Google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.betabtech.gear.ratio.calc.lego.technic I know it is basically Sariel's calculator, but this one comes very handy when you don't have Internet access Quote
Samer Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Same question here. Although I am in the academy and want to pass 1st. Quote
Blakbird Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Anybody can review any set any time they want. You don't have to graduate the Academy. I haven't! Quote
Paul B Technic Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I have been away a few months and come back to all these new sets :) Quote

Thanks for the reply!I was worried because between studies and sport there is very small time-frame left for my hobby and other stuff and the only time I could enter to the academy would be summer but that is a lot of time. Jim Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Completing the RA will give you the benefit of being able to write official reviews once in a while, with sets provided by TLG. But it's time consuming indeed. So feel free to write your own Technic reviews and post them here. You can always join the RA later. Quote

syclone Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Maybe a dumb question, but: How a vehicle with three axles (six wheels) and only two rear driven and the front only steering would be called? 6x4? Quote
LucyCol Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Maybe a dumb question, but: How a vehicle with three axles (six wheels) and only two rear driven and the front only steering would be called? 6x4? Surely this is a 6x2? Reasoning - first figure is total number of wheels on the ground, second figure is the number of driven wheels. Quote

Thanks, but: Total - 6 wheels Driven - 4 wheels A misunderstanding in my original post - rear two axles , not wheels ,SORRY A LOT Edited March 14, 2016 by LXF Quote
N-4K0 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I'm not an expert on this, but 4-wheel drive on a car in the (digit x digit) number setup is given as 4x4, so your illustration of 6 wheels with 4 wheels driven would indeed be 6x4, I assume. As LucyCol is also referring to in post #647, total number of wheels + number of driven wheels. Quote
Epic Technic Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I was wondering if someone knew of a 13 stud wide (pivot to pivot point) independent suspension with steering and drive? And please don't tell me to look in the axle thread because I already have . Quote

My Blue 4x4 has a rather narrow suspension, but it can be further shurnk by using the new steered hubs and 90 degree gearboxes to power the wheels and pivot at the same time. Quote
