BrickBob Studpants Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I highly doubt it. This type of video has accidentally revealed stuff in the past (like the Dragon Alley GWP set in 2018), but this would be way too obvious. Someone definitely would have noticed during editing. It's not exactly hidden, is it

The camo Bane version would appeal to both 76023 owners as well as new collectors and they have this design already ready to go. Makes a nice contrast to the all black vehicles. Makes business sense to me, but that is just my opinion. Edited May 15, 2021 by doriansdad

No longer do we get Joker ice cream trucks, now it's most of times trike bikes or something more cartooney. I understand that Lego is meant to be this way but it just feels like they've run out of ideas for Batman and rest of Justice League has disappeared. I believe DC Superheroes should take a year's break and then return stronger than ever. Finally someone else independently expressing this thought. couldn’t agree more. This theme has always focused on Batman but in recent years has opted to no longer include even the small number of leaguers we were previously given drizzled into his sets. Now its just Batman and his family against his most popular rogues in redundant designs that neither include detailed printing or smart part usage. The builds have been uninspired and the waves small from an early point of this theme but as time passes you just can’t help notice the simplicity each newer wave has brought. The theme showed promise at a certain point but has been on the same not for far too long and shows no sign of stopping. I vented about this a few times here but I think the theme should take a break. Wait for DC animation and cinema to hopefully get their act together and produce great content and maybe then can we see a Lego DC line worth making. If Batman is the one and only character that can sell and he doesn’t even sell more than 2 regular retail sets a wave then maybe this theme is too weak to continue. I was so excited in 2012 when this theme leaked. I day dreamed about different waves covering different aspects of the DCEU. A Teen Titans wave, a Green Lantern wave for each corps etc. but its the bleak reality that at best a handful of these characters will be sprinkled in a bat set. But Lego won’t even compromise like that anymore. Its just the same characters releasing in worse designs than they’ve ever gotten and newer builds that bring nothing new to the table and are less aesthetically pleasing than usual. Even in asking for a break, its reliant on the figurative hope that Warner Bros will get their animated and cinematic game together. We aren’t allowed to discuss it here but that huge influence is what drove Snyderverse discussions. Because the cinematic universe undeniably plays the biggest role in the popularity of the brand. If DC continues to release cheap animation with awkward plots and character portrayal as well as cinematic ventures that don’t work (sorry but I didn’t think the Snyder Cut was that great, I just don’t like his take on the DC universe and think he’s not fit to work on any DC project) then wht’s the point of reviving the theme. tl;dr I also want a break but its only effective if DC gets their content in order first to ensure the brand is popular enough to receive a reboot worth buying. The years of DC “getting their act together” with their cinematic properties should be a break because the content is dull.

Except for the fact that the 66 Batmobile is amazing. I'm glad they got that out before any supposed break but yeah it wouldn't hurt at all. Also DC as a studio is such a disaster but that's just me

Also DC as a studio is such a disaster but that's just me No its not just you. Their newer animated movies lack detail and have a very forced and cringy action movie tone to them. The character portrayals is not really the zenith of how these characters can be depicted. Their cinematic movies suck and instead of stopping, or revisiting the talent and approach to these properties they just keep pumping them out. Its clear the higher ups at DC and warner bros are tone deaf to the needs of the audiences they serve. DC is a mess and that results in Lego sets that feel repetitive and lackluster. I’d love for a break and to hear rumors of the theme in coming years at a time where DC gets its act together. I want to work for DC one day because I feel not enough people on the inside of the company know how shit needs to be done. edit and as a source of reference Ninjago is what I wish this theme resembled. A solid mix of structures and vehicles, mechs, and giant animals with figure selections high on detail and abundant with variants so when a character appears a few times its largely in different costumes. I’d love for sets that weren’t just vehicles with figures that occasionally had good detail. And if Lego is going to keep this theme they may as well improve it but the pace and direction its carried for years needs to change or at least go back to what it was in its prime. BrickBob Studpants Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 To me, the best chance for a resurgence of interest in DC seems to lie with the upcoming films, mainly The Batman, Flash, and Aquaman 2. So I’m not sure how a hiatus is supposed to help

So I’m not sure how a hiatus is supposed to help Yep, it’s entirely possible to change the output of the theme without stopping it. They aren’t running a continuous stream of products, they’re working on sales data, customer response, brand popularity, and the subsequent designated budget. DC has these weird creative restrictions like you can’t use certain characters in this live action series because they might appear in this cartoon at some point in the future. IP ownership has been responsible for some of that, granted. They’ve also got a massive roster to draw from, and a long legacy. The last run of Justice League sets were clearly tie-ins for the JLA cartoon, but weren’t obviously so. Teen Titans Go is one of their most successful brands, yet all Lego had were two Dimensions sets. They seem to have found a niche with the adult oriented Batmobiles, and they could do really well with that if they manage it properly and have faith in it. It’s no secret that Marvel is the bigger brand right now, but DC is the only one that can combat that. Marvel was lucky to have a linchpin in Stan Lee and his Ego sized ego to weaponise and characterise teenage angst, as well as the artistic prowess of Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to bring them to life. DC had the talent, but their direction was entirely different and the current leadership needs to utilise that properly. DC has also been wracked with rumours of the company folding, creative disputes, and suffers from indifferent ownership. It’s going to be a rough road, but companies have come back from worse. I don’t believe a hiatus in a toy line is the answer.

It's like a UCS Version of po's (or how the guy is called) X-Wing from SW Episode VII...

I don’t believe a hiatus in a toy line is the answer. Agreed. Themes don't take breaks. They end! A very lucky few might get picked up again years later if the demand and popularity rises to justify it. I'd rather they carry on even with small number of sets than disappear completely. Id love Marvel/SW/HP sized waves but the popularity and likely sales don't justify it especially with the chaos of last year. DC might not be top sellers but they obviously sell well enough to continue the theme even if the waves aren't huge. Not all sets are for everyone (Im not a fan of the UCS vehicles) but doesn't mean the theme should be cancelled just because you don't like the current output. As a consumer you have three options to change the output, 1. Don't buy what you don't like 2. Politely contact the CS team and encourage what you like 3. Hope they stumble across and make what you like.

Well then I would respond by saying I hope if they choose to keep producing sets that we stop getting years like 2020 with few sets and all based on Batman and start getting sets like 2017 where we had mainly Batman but new variants for his villains as well as other heroes here and there. I guess the theme continuing production could be a decent thing if the sets produced returned to the quality we had at earlier points in the theme.
