BrickBob Studpants Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Does anyone know how non-MCU sets have been treated in recent retailer catalogues? Did they also have placeholder names like the obviously-more-secretive movie-based sets? I'm asking because Itaria has said that the Marvel sets in the May-August catalogue all do have placeholder names. It most likely doesn't mean anything, unless last year's SE sets didn't have them...
Scarilian Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Lego Marvel Magazine apparently giving us a Thor minifigure, featuring the same Torso as in the 76169: Thor Mech Armor. As far as I can tell nothing unique about the figure itself though. 2 hours ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: The only 1HY Marvel sets are Shang-Chi sets (at least for now) and the Carnage Head. Don't forget the D2C. Meant to be a 1HY. 3 hours ago, Donkeypunch said: With the leak of the new 66 batman torso what's the likelihood of marvel minifigure leaks? could give us the insight on whether its comics, MCU or god forbid SE. Could occur whenever. Middle of February has potential due to Lego normally revealing things via NYTF and having a potential D2C reveal on February 17th IF it mirrors when the Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition D2C was revealed. If we don't get anything around then, we'll mostly be waiting on random leaks as we won't have anything really to go off in regards to potential dates other than maybe the end of WandaVision around the start of March.

Though that’s all just speculation. Also I like the purple mini figure that kingwong posted is the monkey kid spider biker minifigure. It does look like a cool prowler though, with the purple shoulder pads and helmet.

Marvel doesn't have nostalgic yellow minifigs, so gden seems like the only logical option - unless they decide to do "first appearance" minifigures, but I'm fine with either of those.

Honestly first appearance will be better choice in my opinion. More nostalgic and not as flashy as golden figures. But who knows what LEGO will do for marvel’s anniversary.
admiral_typhoon Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Unlike HP/SW (not sure if Disney wanted to associate it with George Lucas), Marvel has the chance to give us a Stan Lee fig for the anniversary. Unless they put him in the CMF, that is.
PRbrickbuilder Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Moving on a bit from the Korg conundrum, some set photos from Thor: Love and Thunder have been revealed. Among the new designs, Thor's one is the highlight. Very 90's, but with CLASSIC YELLOW BOOTS! I hope LEGO gives the minifig dual molded legs. Also, there may be goats in the sets . Referring to Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr. The original Lego goat would not have worked, and from the discussion on the animal mold thread in Special Themes, the mold no longer exists.

So, Thor seems to be inspired by Thunderstrike's portrayal of Thor. Spoiler In that story a character (Eric) who befriends Thor ends up mortally wounded and gets given the 'powers of Thor' - using Mjolnir temporarily. The character eventually visits Asgard, fighting against Sif trying to find Thor, teaming up with Beta Ray Bill and Dargo Ktor forming a team known as the Thor Corps. Later on the character was manipulated by Enchantress into fighting Sif for Thor's affections, before recieving a new weapon in the form of 'Thunderstrike' a magical mace. Interestingly enough this character at one point died in the comics to be resurrected and controlled by 'Grim Reaper' before being resurrected by Wanda. Depending on how WandaVision goes, maybe we will see something related to that further down the line. I think if the story is adapting from this, we may have an incredibly early hint of potential aspects for the sets to adapt. Thor (Probably a new outfit) Jane Foster Valkyrie Gorr The God Butcher Star Lord Sif Drax The Destroyer Mantis Nebula Rocket Groot Korg (Likely to be re-used in sets if we are getting his figure this year) Meik Kraglin Beta Ray Bill? 'Thunderstrike' magic mace might be a new weapon Stormbreaker is still in Thor's possesion Reforged Mjolnir seems likely given the announcement of Jane Foster holding Mjolnir Thor's goats and potentially the chariot

Otherwise we could also look at the God Butcher arc and conclude Young Thor, King Thor, Frigg, Ellisiv, Attli, Shadrak and so on might be in the movie. Although I do hope the Godesses of Thunder will show up in the MCU at some point, even if that's unlikely without getting timetravel involved.

You are right, I'm mostly leaning towards Thunderstrike as inspiration because of how easy it'd be to switch out Eric for Jane along with streamlining the story. It's insanely far away from release though, so other than the potential for a re-used Korg and the main characters we don't have much to go off really I think 'Thor Corps' is something they are aiming for eventually, maybe we'll see a smaller scale version of it in Thor: Love & Thunder.

That would be cool to see. I honestly can't stop thinking about Gorr and how Feige could use him as a stepping stone to bring symbiotes like Venom (not the crappy Sony version) to the MCU and eventually lead to Knull. Although the King in Black event is definitely too new to be adapted anytime soon.
Moon_Knight Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I think Thunderstrike and Jason Aaron's Thor run are going to be influences for Thor: Love & Thunder but regardless this is a Taika Waititi movie and he's going to do his thing. We got a little Planet Hulk and Walt Simonson's run in Ragnarok but Waititi took some huge liberties (which is what I prefer). We also know for a fact that Jane Foster is wielding the hammer in this movie. So perhaps we'll see Thor with Stormbreaker and Foster with Mjolnir. Either way, a Jane Foster Thor minifig is most definitely welcome!
admiral_typhoon Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 On a semi-related note to MCU stuff, I guess the CMF beekeeper has been in high demand for those who are making WandaVision MOCs - I got one today but I tried swapping the heads to see how well it works as an AIM soldier/scientist: Left is a black head, right is the 2020 AIM goon head, but I guess I should've tried swapping the hands as well.

I can definitely see Thor adopting the name of Thunderstrike after/if Jane becomes Thor, in a funny conversation with Korg, where there is a confusion about too many Thors.
HRC Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) I would think Jane would be Thunderstrike, because people are used to calling Thor Thor. But I guess that's all just speculation. Edited February 10, 2021 by HRC
JaHawk2009 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 How likely do we think the D2C is to be coming out in the next few weeks? I've got a bit of money saved for the Batwing but thinking I might hold off of there's a big marvel set coming soon

We have zero confirmed leaks and if it wasn't for our trusted informants, we wouldn't even know this thing existed. Sure, TLG has gotten better at keeping D2C sets a secret, but not THAT good

Not based on anything concrete but I'm personally leaning to sometime in Q2.

Who wants to buy a giant fishing village set? It features Fat Thor playing Fortnite!” On the one hand, you’re right, Korg would make sense. But on the other New Asgard just . . kind of . . isn’t an interesting place.
