Panda minifigs did review at Golden Ron minifigure. Sadly, he doesn't have any alternative faces, but it's not a big loss.

A pity. I was hoping he'd have a scared/pained face useful for an "evil mastermind has executed the heroes by dipping them in molten gold" MOC

*TLG release moulded dinosaurs* "That looks like Playmobil, give us brick-built stuff!"

To be fair I do not think any that collect them say that, but if they started brick-building the dinosaurs I am sure a lot of fans would stop buying them. So it matter little what people that do not collect them say, e.g. I think SW sets are big, grey and overpriced for the most part, however I would not start buying them if they where smaller, rainbow-coloured and cheaper either

In the Newts suitcase set what look best?:

  1. Only brick-built like Erumpent and Bowtruckle
  2. Partly moulded like head and wings with the rest brick-built like Occamy and Thunderbird
  3. Or the moulded Niffler

And what about brick-built or moulded Fawkes?

*Goldfinger has entered the chat*

I’m ok with them only having one-sided face prints, they’re mostly intended as a collectible anyway:shrug_oh_well:

I was actually thinking of Goldenface - I've been on a bit of an Office kick lately!

Brick Built Fawkes was okay but I really like the moulded one much better.  Moulded Niffler is cute.  I love the moulded heads & wings on the dragons but brick built bodies not so much.  Hated the brick built Basilisk in the Great Hall set, looking forward to the new one but hope it doesn't have that brick block in the middle.  I think Grawp just looks like a bizarre cartoon.

So now that they have to string the HP theme out for the foreseeable future I’m imagining this bs with Gringotts is going to happen more often. We’re going to have to wait needless years to get the sets we want so they can string it out like Star Wars

Makes me wonder what the Luke's Landspeeder will be of the HP line? Ford Anglia? Quidditch Set?

In that case it would be more like, a Gringotts based on the first film and then a Gringotts based on DH, and then remakes. Way to lose interest in the theme, TBH.

I just heard a rumour about the D2C from someone that the D2C is a similar set build-wise to 75098 Assault on Hoth, with some disjointed buildings but some nice individual builds and new moulds. They wouldn't mention the theme though. I feel like it's megablocks because people have already speculated something like this or a mini-scale model, but thought I'd share.

Thankfully I still have a fair bit of my old Fabuland .. I have a few brooms in that colour 🥳

I share that feeling, doesn’t sound believable for more than one reason.

  • “Multiple buildings” would only work if they were similar in scale and detail to Privet Drive or Hogsmeade. What could they even release for $250 that fits that description?
  • New moulds in D2C sets have thankfully become more common, but whenever a set introduces more than one it’s usually out of necessity. Again, can’t think of anything that would fit here :sceptic:
  • 75098 is a weird set to be compared to. Not sure what the HP equivalent to that would even be like, an „ultimate Hogwarts“ set for instance would just be laughable at that price point

I remember I was so sure we'd get some Pygmy Puffs in Diagon Alley...

I could a Ministry of Magic set being similar to Assault on Hoth but definitly not at a $250 price point

I feel like Pygmy Puffs don't even need a new mould as the faces and fur detail could be printed on the round pieces which used to be used for Bludgers, just like the weird Nexo Knight ball monsters

Though that being said I feel like you're right and that our best chance to get them was last year, when there were two Ginny minifigures from Half-Blood Prince AND Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, the shop which actually sold them! You'd think that with all the other details that filled that shop they could have fit a couple of printed pink balls in there :sadnew:

Golden Ron's patch is bigger I think

At first glance they do, but when I superimposed the pictures they appear to be the same size. The black outline stands out much better on the gold figure than it does on the grey.

They probably save it for a future CMF, and looking at all the stickers in DA I guess they used up all the budget long before they got Pygmy Puffs. However the print on Nexo Knight ball monsters look nice so that could work :classic:

They also didn't include the puking pastilles display (the one with the kid puking into the bucket) or that thing that looks like a popcorn machine with the little dragon on it. It's odd, there's so many memorable little details inside WWW that they didn't bother to include even though it doesn't seem like they would have taken that many pieces.

I did remember one of the biggest takeaways from one of the designer videos was that everything had to be approved by Warner Bros I think, with the studio approving every smallest detail that was rendered into brick form. This could make sense if the designers had some out-of-the-box ideas for how to represent things but were turned down. On the other hand, @Roebuck's point that they didn't have the budget for printed pieces like Pygmy Puffs is also likely :classic:

I guess we were lucky with how many great details there were in Diagon Alley, Lego can't fit in every single thing and if this theme lasts long enough for us to see more repeats of sets I suppose every little thing will be included eventually!

I can see some of those ideas come in a polybag in the future.

Oh, I absolutely say that about things I collect. The old troll flat out looks like playmobil to me (that’s not a good thing, I was firmly in the lego camp even as a child), and anytime they give us too many large panels, same. It’s one of the things I really like about denser builds like 4 Privet Drive, that they don’t resemble PM in the least.

Ha! I love brick built Grawp. Didn’t think I would, bought the set mainly for the centaurs, but I think he’s lovely. (Seriously, he’s one of the few things that sit on my desk, along with Snape’s office from the WW set and the Moments books.)

IIRC @Micmac did a mod (with toes!) and orange eyebrows (in light of its genius, I’ll try to disregard the intrinsic gingerism ; or perhaps he’s a merely a homegrown Scots troll... ) for a BoH giant I’ll definitely nick, and someone (I thought it was here) did a similar troll version of the PS lavatory smasher that I quite liked. (The ears were an especially nice touch. Want.)

Anyone recognise the description and know who did the troll? I searched but couldn’t find the post.

ETA: I think I’ve found the troll on flickr. If that was your Grawp mod, please speak up. Cheers.

And there’s a different appropriately long armed version on rebrickable, that amusingly uses the roller skate piece for toes.

I personally think Grawp looks very accurate to the movie. I have zero complaints about Grawp. As far as the Horntail, you can’t possibly tell me that was good. Even I it had to be brick built it could have been done so much better. I’ve always preferred molded creatures but I’m liking the new hybrids. Molded heads are key and using a toothless, spike-less bird head for the Horntail ruined it more than anything.

Good point, I didn't think of that!

And on the subject of Grawp: I never really liked him as a character. I didn't like the way he looked in the films and his chapters might be the only unenjoyable parts of the books for me. But I absolutely LOVE Lego-Grawp. He just looks so lovable

With the role he ended up having in the movies they should've just cut him out entirely. No point having him in OotP if you're just gonna cut out his and Hagrid's escape, Dumbledore's funeral and his contribution in the Battle of Hogwarts (and yes I'm still salty they cut out Grawp, Buckbeak, Kreacher and so on from the BoH :hmpf_bad:).

Minifigures in prelims are always bad because they are either reuse or just prototypes so if you want to rate their quality wait for official pictures.

@Kim-Kwang-Seok This. If you compare the 2018 Toy Fair shots that show the prelim for Nearly Headless Nick to the final result, night and day. (Iirc, they used Tina’s CMF torso (complete with necklace and visible flesh tones) and the weeping Angel’s face, and yet the Nick we got is so well done. I think there is much to hope for.

Found a link for you, not the best angle, but it gives you an idea. By contrast: the infinitely superior final Nick!

What key characters have we not had in the 2018-present run? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the big ones are Tonks, Fenrir Greyback, Narcissus Malfoy, Bill Weasley and Percy Weasley.

From the last series we’re still missing Narcissa and Igor, the PS Troll, GoF Merman, Bogrod / goblin 2, and Peeves outright, and several variations of the minifigs: DH BoH Neville, PoA Wolf Remus, GoF sleeping Hermione and Ron from the second task and swimming suit Harry and Viktor (with shark's head ), and the OotP Death Eater.

Off the work @Yope did to list the screen time and book mentions of characters (back in February?) that haven’t been released as minifigs in the 2018+ series, the top five who lego have never rendered as figs by order of actual canonical appearances / mentions / use: Percy WeasleyBarty Crouch Sr.Rita SkeeterKreacherXenophilius Lovegood and honourable mention goes to Fang. (For some perspective, Igor would have been number five on that list if it were just “not in 2018+“, and Narcissa would have been number seven, but then Percy is a tool and gets no love. (Although that might have something to do with Penelope’s petrification... ) Worth considering, Rita outranks (out-places?) both Narcissa and Igor, and we do have a Daily Prophet this series, plus she’s fabulous(ly evil), so no excuses lego! (Perhaps in a CMF with quick-quotes quill and a bottled beetle? Please and thank you.  There’s one from the elves series they could re-use.)) Bill at least makes the top 10, Nurse Pomfrey (one of my personal most wanted) sadly does not. :oh3: (I may never recover... Tsk.)
