Bernar Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 LOVE the cornish pixie! such a nice surprise! Just hope they give us at least 2 to try and recreate the movie scene. Actually thought that if they would do the chessboard it would be the 120$ set... oh well.., will wait to see how it looks before judging, but defenitly not my cup of tea..
Seaber Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 There are two big ifs for the chess set that will decide if I buy it or not. 1. The minifigures - Harry Ron and Hermione should be in the same outfits in the Forbidden Corridor set, so unless they are in robes in FC, or this set comes with additional figures, it's probably a pass. 2. Exclusive prints or parts - I can't see there being too much in this set that I don't already have or can get for a reasonable amount at this stage, unless of course there are some exclusive parts or prints. I'm really excited by how this set will look, but at £200+ I probably can't justify buying it and will hopefully be able to assemble it from parts I already have. If it came with more challenges though...
Modal Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 I love when people told us to not sink TOO low in our predictions, and then it turns out to be just as low as we predicted 😂

Retro Brick Reviews Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 So, the $120 set isn't a minifig-scale set. It's also not quite a brickbuilt creature or bust. It's probably also not a brickbuilt Sword of Gryffindor, since that's not a feasible LEGO set, or a brickbuilt Sorting Hat, since that would look awful. Here's my prediction. So, back in 2001, LEGO did a giveaway at ToysRUs stores where the grand prize was a large brickbuilt statue of a minifigure Harry Potter (image above). My prediction is that the $120 set will be a throwback to this, and will be a modernized brickbuilt version of the 2018 Harry figure. This is something that I could imagine many people finding to be extremely disappointing (though I, personally, would love it). A giant LEGO Harry figure is something kids would love, hence why LEGO would see it as a good thing to produce. This fits the parameters of being a brickbuilt... something that isn't a bust or creature. And $120 is the same price as the LEGO Originals Wooden Minifigure. This is definitely a bit far-fetched, but I'm starting to think it or something of this ilk might be coming.
BrickMatit Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Harry Potter saga is a close universe (talking about 7 books and 8 movies). I suppose that filling this thread with ideas, we could guess the right sets before August So I give my humble contribute for the 120$ set: Ford Anglia Creator Expert. Not even knowing if it would be possible (number of pieces...)

I think this would be a really smart move on LEGO’s part too - chess set sales have increased exponentially following the success of Netflix’s Queen’s Gambit. And LEGO would be the perfect medium for Wizard’s Chess - it allows you to “destroy” the pieces you defeat (“barbaric” as Hermione would say but oh so fun) and rebuild them. It would make for a beautiful display piece, too. I’d also love to see a Dejarik board for LEGO Star Wars but that’s a story for another forum. As someone who got into chess earlier this year, I think I can speak confidently than no one would buy a LEGO chess set as their “main” chess set. It will look like a toy, not a well crafted and wooden board that can help accent a furniture piece or room. And even then DOUBLE the price of a professional chess board. Well if it’s “not exactly” a brick built creature or bust, that leads me to assume it’s something right in that wheelhouse, just not quite on the mark. To me, brick built swords and cars would have given this description a more definitive “no”. I certainly would not revert back to guessing any minifigure scale or “normal” sets. PsychoBuilder Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 @Retro Brick Reviews, that is extremely far fetched, but at this point it’s believable. Now, let me try to top it in terms of unbelievability: a clock tower extension to the mega Hogwarts set, or some other area. It seems possible with what we know...

Could be a Bell Tower set, but in the 2021 Anniversary design.

RODDY Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 You know what I’ve been dying for, a UCS Cloak of Invisibility.

Mordarch Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 I'm really confused about the Chess set. They claim it's an expansion for the Hogwarts that's releasing soon. But with that price tag I'd expect it to be just a separate display piece. If it's an expansion that's way to steep a price. kids collecting the sets won't be able to buy that and it's too expensive if it's going to be in the style of the play sets. For that price I'd like detail. I'm thinking the price might be for another set. If not I'm curious about what it's going to look like. The Cornish Pixie looks great though.

doclord Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 I can't see the chess set being an expansion, it's more than likely a legitimate chess board. it's wayyyyy too big to be a part of the buildable Hogwarts facade even if they are making a buildable Challenges.
Falconfan1414 Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Well again it’s not confirmed to be a expansion but I don’t think it will just the chess set

Balrogofmorgoth Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 I’m still very much intrigued. I’m actually hoping for a playable chess set but we’ll see. Actual chess set or play set, I’ll be happy
Retro Brick Reviews Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Gotta say, while I understand the disappointment, I'm super stoked for the Chess set. I've wanted a giant LEGO Wizard Chess set ever since I first saw Sorcerer's Stone (how I first saw it) well over a decade ago, but it's something I never thought they'd ever actually make. While I am disappointed by the lack of Gringotts, the difference is that Gringotts was just deferred- even if it's not coming in 2021, there's no way they'd just skip Gringotts entirely, and, judging by Marcos Bessa's attitude on the matter during the recent livestream, it seems as though it's in the works as we type. On the other hand, the Wizard's Chess scene is something LEGO has no obligation to make, and it's something that could have never happened at all. So, with the 20th Anniversary of the film that made me love Harry Potter (my mother didn't let me read the books), I'm so happy that this is what we're getting. For the build, all of the pieces have to be brickbuilt for scale, and I'm really excited to see how they've interpreted them. The only exception is the little statues which ride the Knight horses, which I imagine will be minifigures, both for scale and because the horses need to accommodate a figure so Ron can ride one. As for the potential of other chambers, I think it's fairly likely. The set will probably have some form of backdrop, and I imagine they could have the Chamber of the Winged Keys on the reverse. Also, I imagine the exit door at the far side of the board will lead to the Mirror Room, as some have guessed. Since that already features a wall of fire, I could also see them plopping the potions table in there at the top of the stairs. We'll have already had Fluffy and the Devil's Snare in the Forbidden Corridor set, so that would be every challenge (Except the dead troll, but I somewhat doubt that'll be included). As for minifigures (in addition to the aforementioned Horse Riders), I imagine we'll get new versions of the Golden Trio. I imagine Ron and Hermione will use their same torsos from the Forbidden Corridor (Hermione will have a new print, Ron will reuse Harry's torso from 75953 and 75968), but Harry will have his battle damage. Harry and Ron also need new faces: Harry has a big cut on his face (or, a second big cut, rather, haha), and he'll probably get new expressions (angry frown on one side, "NEVA" shout on the other). Ron needs a face for after he's been knocked unconscious, and his other face could be a determined look. Hermione doesn't require a new face, but I could see her getting one, just so that she's not left out. If that's the case, I could see one side with a teary smile for the "Books and Cleverness" scene, and the other being a puzzling expression for the Potions challenge. For other figures, Quirrell is a near-definite, presumably with a new centered Voldemort face to match the golden variant. His main face could be a more cruel look, which would fit the scene better than his timid face from 2018. McGonagall would be a good pick, since it is her chessboard. And I still think the D2C will include a Golden Dumbledore. Also, while I won't write it here, I think @sebastian666 has made some other great points regarding why this set is so great, and why it will likely sell very well. Overall, super excited for this one, and I think it has the potential to be one of the best LEGO D2Cs, period.
