Lol its even worse than I thought. It is just big Hedwig standing on some random books and stuff, like what is the point of this set? I mean it looks nice but it is completely unnecessary set and waste of D2C spot which could have been something comparable to SW cantine or Marvels Daily Bugle.

You are free to have this opinion, however I think this is an excellent display set comparable to a UCS Millenium Falcon, but more colourful instead of boring grey and is exactly what an expensive D2C set should be. The minifig scale sets should be regular retail releases so that even kids can get them. That is one gripe I have with the Diagon Alley set: They could have released it as 4 separate sets at a lower price point (with even more buildings coming in the future) .

Immediate thoughts:

  • It does look good, but I'm not sure why this set was considered necessary when they had managed to make a decent Hedwig for considerably less. Did lots of people go on the feedback and request a giant Hedwig model? Something tells me not.

Yeah but the old Hedwig is a sad excuse now compared to this one. This acutally looks like her. The head on the old one was really bad for a snow owl and all it had really going for it were the flapping wings.

Man. Ya'll really undersold this new D2C set. I had absolutely no interest in it from the rumors going around. But...this thing is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, but I'll probably get this set as it is a nice Lego representation of an owl.

Whoever is currently on the design team of Harry Potter is currently doing an amazing job, lots of nice HP sets recently. I'm a fan of those big minifigures too.

Arguably HP seems to be the best theme at the moment, lots of nice designs. SW is going through a bit of a ropey period currently.

Haha not at this rate.

Has anybody done what the designers said and done the Lego feedback survey? I did it the other day for DA. I know we're only a few people, but if there is any chance of it helping inform future set choices it's worth it.

Also, I got the Let's Play Quidditch book today for the Cedric minifigure.

I still haven't been able to find it in stores in the Netherlands. :( Oh well I'll just bricklink Cedric 7 times. :P

So this is it for this year or is it possible that some other unexpected sets pop up out of nowhere at some point?

It's not actually available in the UK either until November, but there was a ebay business seller who had it for only about £1 more and already in stock so I went for it.

Anything is possible but as far as we know this is it.

This looks absolutely gorgeous  And it includes Hagold, called it

@Brick Clicker: You were right all along!

Wasn't there a rumour of a giant Hedwig as much as a couple of years ago? I'm sure I remember something after a toy fair about a large scale Hedwig, but then it got put down to a translation error. Maybe this set was meant to be before DA, but because the HP line did so well they released DA first. This might have been a set they could have planned from the off because of its appeal to general HP collectors.

No I meant there was a rumour a couple of years ago after a physical toy fair about a large Hedwig, but it never happened and got put down to crossed wires or something.

The only thing that doesn‘t quite add up is the leaked golden Draco hairpiece, but maybe that really was just a prototype :shrug_oh_well: After all, the source is primarily known for collecting rare prototype/miscoloured parts and this could have been a  coincidence. Unless there‘s an upcoming unknown GWP set with Dragold included as the final golden minifig, this should be it for 2021

So can the objects all be detached or is it kind of one big sculpture?

Certain objects like the frog, wand and the potion bottles are loose/detachable. Hedwig is attached by her talons/feet on a technic core construction, which is pretty well hidden inside the book pile. You can see a hint of the technic construction on one of the pics that shows the set from behind.

Looks like the pictures were from the ambassador network and the reveal was supposed to be later in the week

Oh dear. Sounds like someone's going to get into trouble. Not sure why someone from the AN would risk leaking this. :sceptic:

Nobody talking about how magnificent Hedwig looks?! The previous version was already great, but the new one wipes the floor with it  No exaggeration, this has to be the best animal build they‘ve ever released!

Loving the look of this so far.

very much meh when I heard  it was going to be various ‘items’ but this fits together so well.
Glasses look neat too - I think they are part of the set?
I hope the letter is NOT stickers though!
