Especially if there are a lot of accounts recently made to purely vote for it (ie; multiple accounts made by one person).

Its interesting how people here just cannot grasp the idea that yes, many of those accounts were created just to vote for Bionicle, why? because unlike most Lego themes, Bionicle had an impact on people who aren't a part of the lego community and/or don't necessarily like lego itself, and they are voting for the one theme from the company that they enjoyed.

My prediction: Bionicle will win, mostly due to sockpuppet accounts created by a few people, LEGO will make a mostly System-based Bionicle set, Bionicle fans will hate it, non-Bionicle fans will hate, it will be a massive failure, and LEGO will never try this sort of AFOL outreach again.

What i think is more likely is that Bionicle will win, go to round two with some combination of Castle, Pirates, or Space. and either A) get crushed in round 2, or B) win in round 2, and Lego ignores the results (and no one will be the wiser) and does something else because in many ways Bionicle simply isn't viable right now.

As for the bot accounts? I don't know. There may be a few, but I've been in the Bionicle community for years, and there's a lot more Bionicle fans than one might think. They just tend to stay in their little bubbles because of afore mentioned AFOL scrutiny and gatekeeping.

EDIT: or plain old lack of interest in System themes on the by and large.

EDIT 2: And as previously mentioned, most of the core bionicle fanbase do like system, but it's none of the themes mentioned besides Maybe Adventurers and Alpha Team. If Exo-force, Knight's Kingdom II, Mars Mission, Rock raiders, Power Miners, or Space Police III had been present, you would have seen plenty of Bio fans vote for those.

Yep. I voted for Bionicle as #1. The only reason I also voted for Paradisa is because I like the colors, and for rock raiders as it looks the most like a theme I played with (Power miners)

If those two were not present I would have only voted for Bionicle.

The question begs, will they then go ahead and buy the set that gets released?

I don't hate Bionicle, I had sets as a kid, bought a few of the reboot sets a few years ago and picked up a little more constraction here and there. I even have a Bionicle MOC planned for my projects this year (9 for 90 years), but to represent the anniversary of LEGO, it is a strange choice . Imagine if they had split Bionicle the same way Space and Castle was split?

Got to say too: Gatekeeping never stopped me for anything, but you get that attitude as a FFOL and all around non-conformist type of girl. Though I also understand some people find it tough going, it is just a lot more enjoyable in life to not really care what the curmudgeons say.

As another user posted before, this vote has more than one use.Lego is probably testing the waters to see which of the old themes listed have the most demand and with them trying to cash in the adult market they'll probably release sets for the most wanted themes sometime in the future.

Or at least I hope that's what they're doing.I really want more Castle, Pirates and Adventurers sets and I won't be getting any of those through this vote because of the fricking Bionicles fans:wall:

Depends, If its a figure, be it Constraction or system with the level of articulation I expect from constraction, I'll definitely buy it. if its a bust or a diorama with minifigs, I wont.

If it gets the lack of marketing that G2 got, no one outside of fanatics will even know its there, so (bionicle fans) will be back to relying on advertising it through word of mouth

Are there people that think different, e. g. that would for sure buy Forestmen but no way they would buy Black Falcons?

I like Forestmen, Wolfpack  and Black Falcons but there is no way I'd buy a Classic Castle set.

And beg you and your ilk to "please oh please be respectful to bionicle fans" instead? Nah, I don't think so

'kay, the butthurt is strong here. If you are going to to turn the discussion into a personal beef with everyone who is not a whole-hearted fan of Bionicle, I would advise you step back for a while and cool your head.

If there is a rich community of Bionicle fans, maybe it is better to go and giggle with glee with them for a while, instead of trying to pick fights in a forum that caters to all FOLs, no matter their favourites.

There it is,that's the passive aggressive behavior that I can't stand that plauges the social media.

I though this place was devoid of this kind of behavior.

And for your information you're the one whose disrespecting the Bionicle fan base.

There isn't much to giggle about since there hasn't been anything for us to buy in the last 4 years, I'm just hear to see if folks are predictably mad that Bionicle beat out one of their fave themes

You know what Lego, just cancel this and make a Fabuland set. Those characters are absolutely hilarious and we need more of that in this world.

Ya know...I wouldn't even be against that actually. Yeah, sure, hand me proto-chima instead of anything else

actually, since I am here, I'm curious, One of the old story writers for Bionicle wants to buy the IP, would you AFOLs be in favour of Lego selling it? Just imagine, we'd never have to talk to one another again

To be rational, bionicle accounts for about 12% of the vote, more than any other theme, but that means 88% of people wont want bionicle, and I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the 10 pages of what is largely bickering about bionicle on this forum is a good indicator no system fan who doesn't get their system theme into the second vote will vote bionicle over the other two system themes. That means that even if the system vote is divided over the two themes competing with bionicle, there will be four to five times the amount voting over bionicle, so bionicle hasn't got a chance anyway.

I don't want to mini-mod, but lets stop arguing about bionicle.

Referring to them as 'the fricking Bionicles fans :wall:' kinda instigated the situation, so not entirely blameless in lighting the ensuing fire...

But can we all just stop? Bionicle may take the number 1 slot in the first vote, but votes won't be split up 14 times between 2 themes and then some. Whatever comes 2nd and 3rd, will have a much more compact and focused form of voting. Unless bionicle fans of the world unite MandR style, in all honesty, while I see them gaining a lot of support, I don't think it'll win through.

The new viziyo figures recently leaked actually kinda reminded me of fabuland, 'a la minifigure style'

That doesn't help the situation much, voicing your urge to see people disappointed. Verges on trollish behaviour...

Once the other themes aren't split up, or there's only 2 others to vote on, while it doesn't bother me either way who wins as I've already got a big list of sets to buy without another being added, I can't see bionicle pulling through the second vote

Less an urge to see them disappointed and more to see how they don't understand why Bionicle is winning. Ideally the top 3 would all get a set, even better would be if all 30 entries got a set, but since they're can only be one winner, people will be at eachother's throats, I'm just documenting the behaviour that I've grown accustomed to seeing from the vast majority of afols when Bionicle is given attention

Don't worry, I wasn't really being serious with that comment. I know there are a ton of serious Bionicle fans.

I still think it appears suspicious when multiple new accounts with names like "SexyBionicle420" appear just to vote for Bionicle. Sure, it's explainable by the nature of the Bionicle fanbase. But it's also explainable by cheating.

I'm sure LEGO's tech people can figure out if the vote is being gamed.

Oh, oof, my apologies then, I came in here on the defensive and didn't think people would be sarcastic about that, my bad

as for the sexybionicle usernames? Yeah, I know exactly who those folks might be, what part of the community they're in, and what they're favourite shoulderpad piece is

I'm kinda surprised how model team isn't doing so well though... Thought it'd have done better :def_shrug:

I was also expecting it to do a bit better, considering how gosh darn expensive those sets are on the secondary market.  Clearly there's an appeal but I guess it's more just becuase the sets aren't super common, so people that have them know they can jack the prices up.  I know it's kind of similar to Creator Expert vehicles, but those are licensed and I kind of like the unlicensed off-road van and semi truck builds.  Wish we'd get more of those.

This is the problem I also have, if those are real votes and not just people making bot/dummy accounts.  Bionicle's reboot failed pretty hard, which may have been a case of the theme losing momentum after it got cancelled in 2010 initially, but I think that points to the idea that a potential Bionicle set probably would not have appeal to those outside of the Bionicle community, since they failed to really capture a new audience with the reboot sets.

For what it's worth, I'm not hating on Bionicle, I think more just the concept of one theme winning when that theme, if it's Bionicle, has a much more specific appeal.  They needed to either do multiple sets or something because I just cannot see an 18+ Bionicle set selling the same as an 18+ Castle or Space Ship or Pirate Ship or even Adventurers Pyramid.

It moreso had to do with the lack of marketing, lack of a story plan before it launched (G1's story bible was written all the way back in 99, G2 never had one, and only got a real plot months after its launch), Absurd prices (G1 Tahu was about 6 dollars back in 01, G2 Tau was 20 bucks) and just the fact that Lego doesn't really get how to do something like Bionicle anymore. Its obvious to a fan that if they returned it to being a technic subsidiary with small, cheap sets, an elaborate story, and a focus on making original characters (coughmaskpackscough) they'd likely be able to recapture a new audience.

Instead we got (what some people view as an intentional) fumble that possibly ended constraction and left many of its fans high and dry and waiting to vote for any chance at getting something like it again.

Just take Bionicle off the poll and give us a Hero Factory relaunch, and we'd probably be fine.

Those are all very valid reasons, but those are issues that I could still see with a re-booted set.  I never got into Bionicle (although I'm not opposed to constraction, I have some of the Star Wars figures and I do enjoy doing custom figures out of Bionicle parts) but I had two cousins that, growing up, were super into it - I mean, that was like 2/3rds of their LEGO, they knew all of the lore and names, that kind of stuff.  It would be nearly impossible to re-capture that same magic of the story and lore in one set, meaning that again, the appeal to new consumers just isn't going to be as strong.  I don't think LEGO has lost their touch in terms of original stories, either - look at Ninjago.  Potentially one of their most successful in-house themes of all time, I would suggest it's probably the Bionicle of the 2010s, and a largely story-based theme with the same recurring characters and vehicles.  But it'd be impossible to do anything of that depth in one set.  Prices also haven't really gone down, although this being an 18+ set, I think it's to be expected that it's at least $70-80, likely $100 or more, though.

Again, I don't mean to poo-poo on Bionicle, I hope I'm not coming off that way.  It does really suck that there hasn't been really anything in the vein of constraction for, what, three years now?  (I forgot when they stopped making the SW figures, which was a shame because a lot of those were pretty cool).  It's a niche that I would like for LEGO to tap back into, since there's clearly a subset of consumers that are interested in that type of product executed well.  I just don't think making only a Bionicle set as the anniversary celebration set is a great idea.

Naw, unlike some people you're not getting angry at "frickin bionicle fans", so its all good

But yeah, Thats just my 2 cents on Bionicle as a working theme, many fans of it are (rightly so) anxious about the fact that it may never, and I mean NEVER return. in any way, shape, or form, as far as quite a few people are concerned, this is the very last chance to ever see Bionicle ever again. Lego will absolutely do another Space line in the future, They will absolutely do anther Castle line, They will absolutely do anther Pirate line, but they ended constraction after an 18 year run, so many Bionicle fans just can't afford that same sense of security

Whether it wins or not, I sincerely hope lego considers just selling the IP

I think everyone is taking this vote wayyyy too personally. It's just a single 18+ set, and probably will stay as a single set. As for the whole Bionicle debate, I know that it's a lot of voter's childhoods, but so is castle/pirates/trains/etc. We shouldn't try to diminish people's opinion on something based off of whether they do like something or they don't. Do I think the probability of LEGO pulling out old Bionicle molds if it does win is high? No, no I don't. It'd probably just be a regular LEGO set. But I do know that it is adored by many, some because of memes, some because of their childhood. I'd be happy with whatever wins, I'd prefer trains, but a single person can't choose.
