mikaelsol Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 (edited) During the winter break I took my old layout apart and put in more tables, starting Soltown 2.0. I'm going to keep my videos of the progress in this thread. My goal for 2021 is to expand on the lore of Soltown, so some of them will have unexpected storylines and twists. The first video I would like to show you centers around the Devil's gap ravine. I've made a train bridge over it, and a small landscape below. It hides a fun crook hideout with dangerous terrorists dressed as the classic "forrest men" (also know as Robin Hood-folks, when I was little). Edited January 19, 2021 by mikaelsol Video started in the middle, so I updated the link. Quote
Lira_Bricks Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 It looks really colourful :) I also like it being in multiple levels! The bottom of the pedestrian bridge seems to be made from colourful 2x4 bricks. While that looks nice, it seems the weight is weighing it down a bit. Maybe you could use some lift-arms. Side-note: your video starts in the middle Quote

Side-note: your video starts in the middle Thanks! Yea, it's going to be a crazy amount of levels! And thank you for pointing out that about where the video started! I've fixed that now. Here's a video about the foot bridge. It's inspired from a real world "Lego bridge" called Lego-brücke. It just rest on the tables for the time being so that's why it sometimes can look a bit sagging. Quote
mikaelsol Posted January 20, 2021 Author Posted January 20, 2021 Alright! I've worked on a subway station and added a temporary set up for LED to light the underground lever of Soltown. Of course there's a black market behind a hidden entrance that sells different by the regime banned goods. Much enjoyment to you and your dear ones. Quote
mikaelsol Posted January 21, 2021 Author Posted January 21, 2021 (edited) The new road plate system is a big controversy amongst AFOL's. How will those who own all the modulars afford to change out baseplates to this new system? After buying so many modulars they're broke! Any house, here's some ideas I have for what we can use the new roads for. Edited January 21, 2021 by mikaelsol Quote
mikaelsol Posted January 25, 2021 Author Posted January 25, 2021 New police station MOC! Soltown finally have a proper police station, that even has free dental care for the inmates. Wonderful! Quote
mikaelsol Posted February 1, 2021 Author Posted February 1, 2021 I took it upon my self to fix the LARGE issue with set 10220, it's just to large for minifig scale! So I turned it into something else. Quote
mikaelsol Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 I hit every new youtuvers dream milestone and that's 1000 subscribers! To celebrate that I've made a short talk about my childhood sets and a little quick tour of the current state of Soltown. Thank you for subscribing and all that good stuff! Quote
mikaelsol Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 You know it's on like the break of dawn. Time to work on the steep road that connects my shelf street with the small raised IKEA table! Quote
doomguy Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 "Looks empty just like my soul" I love the commentary, your layout is very colorful. I think the slope is a little too steep but it also reminds me of San Francisco. I quite like the look of these newer road plates. Quote

To be honest it's the French town of Angouleme that's the main inspiration. A part of it is on top of a hill, and the roads are crazy steep. Quote
mikaelsol Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 All right! Well, I did build a custom double decker train car the other day, so now I needed to build a train station. Instead of a totally own design I went for set 4556 from 1999 and modified it quite a bit! Quote
mikaelsol Posted February 22, 2021 Author Posted February 22, 2021 The retro vintage wave continues in Soltown! I needed to have some sort of end of my road on the shelf, so I came up with the idea of a fake tunnel entrance. Quote
mikaelsol Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 I got that Barracuda bay recently and that made me think of The Pirate Bay (I'm Swedish and that "service" was founded by Swedes), so that made me want to build a bit of a modern day piracy bay (with a beach next to the docks ...). Quote
mikaelsol Posted April 3, 2021 Author Posted April 3, 2021 Well well, Soltown 2.0 finally gets a fire station, this staple building amongst LEGO cities. I tried to give it a bit of a spinn, so the second floor has some slide outs that transforms the room into different rooms depending on the function needed. Hope you're having an awesome time! Quote
Shiva Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Nice mini fire station :) And those cars should be able to go almost everywhere. Thank you for all years of your work at Mr Walker :) Btw, I think I missed the video he was in? Quote
mikaelsol Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 I got asked by a viewer is I could to a tour of my city, so here's one for April 2021! 15 hours ago, Shiva said: Nice mini fire station :) And those cars should be able to go almost everywhere. Shiva Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Heloise good too :) Maybe Mr Walker and Devil someday. Quote
mikaelsol Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 Alright kids! It's been a long time, but I've been a bit busy with this latest build where I built a lot of suggestions from the viewers. Super fun and a creative challenge. Quote
mikaelsol Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Yes it's true! There's finally a new video from Soltown. This time around I want to present to you a big ugly rock wall! Quote
mikaelsol Posted June 27, 2021 Author Posted June 27, 2021 Well well, time for a new video! I got my first check from Youtube, so I bought 60292: Town Centre for all of the money and then I took it all apart just to modify the pizzeria ... Quote

mikaelsol Posted August 8, 2021 Author Posted August 8, 2021 (edited) Soltown is currently investing in the future of the city, so they've modded set 41682 Heartlake City School to fit into the town layout. Edited August 8, 2021 by mikaelsol Quote
mikaelsol Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 To be honest with you guys, I used to work at a comic book store in Stockholm, Sweden, when I was a struggling freelance artist back in the day. I recreated that building in LEGO form a couple of years ago, but I never did a proper interior ... UNTIL NOW!! So here's the build show: Quote
