I got stabbed by a new LEGO brick with a wire sticking out of it

Yes this is of no worry for all of the super tough macho men here who dunk their breakfast cigars in 151 proof rum before grooming where the sun don't shine with a dirty clip point knife but considering the fact that Lego is a toy company (as much as it pains some AFOL to be reminded that they are on a website discussing the children's toys that they play with) it's probably a noteworthy concern. All the rough guys however can get back to flossing with 12.7x99mm cartridges.

Exactly, I don't think that that bit of wire could really harm a young child if it pokes them, but where do young children (this piece appears in 4+ sets), often like to put things: in their mouth.

What I love about this topic is the frankness of the topic title. It is loading for me.

 

As for the actual photo, I can't even fathom how the wire got there in the first place. This is must be rare occasion, but the fact that it is there, is something the TLG should know more about.

We had the not so nice experience of talking >indirectly< to each other before. Why on earth don't you call me out? Why just the sneaky approach? Do I have to read between the lines? The not so between lines?

Just that, and I am trying to stay very calm: Maybe some people have experienced other challenges in their life - and maybe they have a different perspective on being stabbed by a such a thing, that >clearly< should not happen. But you know what: I simply don't like "hype" - never. And before any of that goes into a direction that may cause more harm than just keeping calm, thinking about it, I tend liking to suggest that. Maybe in a wording that a native speaker as you are may find inappropriate. And maybe that is another thing to consider before going nuts: I am German. And I don't know all the things you can express in English. Try that: Talk to me in German.

There is by the way no need to call me a super macho man. I was expressing a perspective. No macho, no cigars, no nothing of that >utter< nonsense.

But hey, I do like rum. There you are spot on.

I think that we should move pass our differences and move on. On one hand, my direct reply below yours @Toastie does not mean my reply is directed at you. EB is a "flat" forum, so all replies goes to the main topic (first post), unless there are quotes or tags. Both yours and @koalayummies points are valid, from different points of view and I don't see anything wrong from either side, really.

From what I can tell, regardless of where you're coming from, whether you are macho man or someone very delicate, there are merits to reporting to TLG for further investigation.

It's been 10 business days (16 calendar days), the number of days wait listed when I sent my message; I finished my build - other than the defective brick - last night; still no word from Lego.  They're only claiming a 7 day backlog in email now though, which has me half-wondering if it was escalated above front line customer service and they're trying to decide how to officially respond.

I also have a complaint with them about a problem order, now 17 days and no reply to the email. 

Maybe take yours to twitter and make it very public, as lego CS don't seem to care about the safety issue.

I did get a call from a LEGO Customer Service (Support?) Supervisor yesterday.

 

In addition to a replacement brick, they'll be sending a prepaid envelope for the brick with the wire in it (so sorry to anyone who may have been hoping to buy a dangerous brick from me for their collection).   They also credited my VIP account with 1950 points ($15 worth of discounts); option B here would've been a random small set.  I'd rather have a discount on something of my choice.

 

The manufacturing code someone upthread said I should save my packaging for was printed on one of the pieces of tape I cut to open the box and then pealed off it, so their traceability was limited to whatever they could get from my order number.  The delayed response hurt them here, if they'd called 2 days sooner I could've dumped the small trashcan next to my desk and probably found it; but I emptied it for collection Wednesday night.

Agreed, try buying second hand Lego or accepting old stuff people don't want anymore. You'd be amazed at the crap you sometimes get along with your second hand Lego. Usually I just clean it or get rid of pieces that are beyond hope of recovery.

Yes, but this is a very different issue. If you get crap in secondhand LEGO, someone has not done a very good job of sorting out the rubbish. In this case, it is new LEGO direct from LEGO. Having contaminants in it is an indication of failure somewhere in the production process and they should definitely be informed about it.
