Posted June 6, 200816 yr CCCV standard MOC. Gunpowder is made from: -Saltpetre, from dung -Charcoal, by burning wood without oxygen -Sulphur, from volcanoes Which is then ground, pressurised and tumbled. Wedgie! I used this piece - legal move? Milling and pressurising machines. Radioactivity ahead of its time. Charcoal and gunpowder storage. Accidents (support edited out, sorry for wonky flame), buying sulphur from miners and more dung. Note spades.
June 6, 200816 yr Wow, thats an impressive MOC. I like the hoisting crane very much, give my more pictures! It just looks great!
June 6, 200816 yr Another nice MOC full of little details. As it's an official part I guess it's legal. The wheel looks great suspended from the side of the building.
June 6, 200816 yr SlyOwl: another outstanding MOC! You're very creative and always seem to capture the feel and mood of the scene (although I think you have a thing for sheep ). What I really like about this old mill is the action inside. The expression on the lady's face as the man fires the gun is priceless. I also like the consistent use of the same white bricks between the black tudor-style framing. I also like the spindle/pulley and the second floor. It looks very realistic. My only question is why you didn't put any windows on the side of the building? I think some of the old classic yellow framed black paned windows with green shutters would really look great. Overall, an excellent MOC . I also like the sneaky swordsman in the water (nice touch).
June 6, 200816 yr your skills have dragged me out of the pirate forum. great work as usual slyowl magic once again love the miss-firing gun and the reactions... the arm and sword coming out of the lake... priceless well worth the trip out of the pirate forum... EDIT: seems TheBrickster and i have similar taste only he types faster Edited June 6, 200816 yr by Cpt. Pegleg Blockbeard
June 6, 200816 yr This is another great MOC by SlyOwl. The expressions on the mini-figs are very good. Love the simple illustration of the accident that messed around with the gun. The whole mill is fit and looks like its in good production status. Everything is on the go! I agreed with Brickster with the sneaky swordman in the pond. Certainly adds some touch in it.
June 6, 200816 yr Love it! Okay, so I've a question on SNOT technique that's been bugging me for a while. Are the SNOTed sections, like this roof, for example, ever connected, or are they "floating?"
June 6, 200816 yr Too much half-timbering for me. I think a stone first floor would look much better. It looks too much like a Dali-esque chessboard right now. Some windows might help with that though. I love the roof, though I'm not quite sure how its done. Yellow is a nice color for the roof. And the inverted slopes that support the eaves are quite nice. Steve
June 6, 200816 yr very good detail and SNOT techniques... funny where the guy blows a hole in the ground with the shotgun. all in all, very creative, and im looking foward to browsing through some of your old MOCs.
June 7, 200816 yr Another fantastic MOC, SlyOwl! Still haven't figured out how you did that roof. ~Peace
June 7, 200816 yr Author Ye Olde Thanks I also like the sneaky swordsman in the water (nice touch). Clearly King Arthur hasn't spread to America... Okay, so I've a question on SNOT technique that's been bugging me for a while. Are the SNOTed sections, like this roof, for example, ever connected, or are they "floating?" Generally not - in the second picture you can see that it is removed to let in light. Floors are often connected as they don't need to be removed, but it is quite hard to connect from SNOT to SOT... Too much half-timbering for me. I think a stone first floor would look much better. It looks too much like a Dali-esque chessboard right now. Some windows might help with that though. Yup, I do think this suffered from BGWS (as it were), but the trouble with windows is that I like to have the black frames running around it, which means the window must be 2 or 5 studs wide... I'll bear it in mind Still haven't figured out how you did that roof. Nothing fancy, just a zigzag technique...
June 7, 200816 yr The house looks beautiful, and the whole idea´s pretty cool and well done indeed. The interior looks also very fine. Gunpowder, huh? Seems like your characters´ve no needs for magical swords anymore....
June 8, 200816 yr Beautiful and brilliant as always! Wedgie! I used this piece - legal move? And thank you for including this! Not only do I find it hilarious (and wow! that's a painful looking one!) I'm glad to officially not be the only person to give a minifig a wedgie. Welcome to the club!
