HMMMMMMMM

Well, it could mean CMFs... or it could mean they are going to use those new cardboard boxes instead of polybags.

I was more alluding to the strong possibility of more minifigure based products in the future. The Hasbro + Lego deal has been renegotiated to allow for Lego to create more Disney products focusing around solely figures, which has opened some doors. I just also don't think those carded displays are coming back anytime soon... been a few years since we have seen them!

Sorry if this is a little off topic (and I should know as a MOD), but if they do do a SW CMF, which could potentially be awesome, I wonder how they'd handle the choices and also their pattern to this point of always including a property's main characters in a licensed series.

Every licensed series thus far has included the main characters: Simpsons 1 & 2 (all five of the family), LEGO Batman Movie 1 & 2 (Batman, Batgirl, Joker, Robin), Harry Potter 1 & 2 (the main trio and Dumbledore), DC Superheroes (the most prominent Justice League members: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern), and even Disney 1 & 2 had Mickey and Minnie, arguably the face of Disney.

Star Wars not only has too many main characters with three heroes plus villains in three trilogies, but also almost all of them have been done (and done well) in nearly every outfit they ever wear (besides Padme). So, how would they navigate that?

There hasn't yet been a CMF for a theme as long running and broad-ranging as Star Wars, so it would be very interesting to see what they did with it.

The one “new” design for a hero I can think of off the top of my head is a redesigned TCW Anakin. It’ll probably be small redesigns, changing a print color to be more accurate here, adding more scorch marks to pre-Mustafar Obi and Ani there…in all seriousness they had better put at least Rex and Cody in the CMFs if we can’t just have a line of clones

CMF figures are typically much more deluxe than regular minifigures. Dual-molded legs, wrap-around leg printing, arm printing, and/or dual-molded arms are the norm... whereas mainline Star Wars minifigs typically only get front leg printing, and maybe only ⅔ of them at that. Not to mention that CMF figs often come with cloth pieces, new molds and unique (and plentiful) accessories. I have no doubt that LEGO could offer new designs so compelling that many of us would buy even common figures like Farm Boy Luke in multiples.

And as for which characters to include, they could follow the Disney model (choose pairs of characters from different movies, representing a cross-section of the SW timeline (Han and Chewie, Anakin and Padme, Snoke and Kylo, etc.), or they could follow the Harry Potter model (limit each series to a particular timeframe, or perhaps in this case movie... an all-ANH series, followed by an all-ESB series... or an all-OT series, followed by an all-PT series, etc.)

I've thought for a while that if anything can carry a Star Wars CMF, it would be TCW (although with its popularity, a Mando CMF would probably sell like hotcakes too). There's plenty of characters/variants from the show that have never been made or desperately need an update, and its main cast consists of iconic characters from the rest of the PT (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Maul) or that have become iconic in their own right (Ahsoka, Rex), and of course the long requested P2 Cody is an easy inclusion there. A CMF strictly based on any of the trilogies or even single movies would just be retreading old ground, (realistically, they're not going to do a CMF entirely focused on characters we don't have since they're relatively obscure to the average consumer) and while some of us here might get excited over redone minifigs of the main characters decked out with all the bells and whistles minifigs can have, every non-Star Wars fan wouldn't see the point and just get angry over a "wasted CMF slot".

If they were to do a CMF, I'd want the waves to correspond to episodes or projects (i.e. Individual waves for 1/2/3 etc., and waves for shows like CW or Mando). That way, we could get renditions of the main cast, but be sure to get some background characters we haven't had in sets yet. The main characters could be done really well, too, since they could give us new accessories and such. As for Luke, they still haven't done one with his boonie hat/goggles from tatooine. We just got him with the poncho in the landspeeder, but not the hat. They could do his endor get up for the Episode VI wave since they've yet to remake that one since the original wave in 1999. There's a lot of possibilities.

Cody should be in an Utapau Obi-Wan v Grievous set with the Varactyl and Grievous's bike. 50-60 bucks. The clone pilots thing makes literally no sense, they really decided to put knockoff Captain Fordo instead of an actual pilot for the darn ship. LoGiC.

wait people complained about the Falcon lineup?! It's all of both crews minus Obi-Wan...the heck?

Edit: turns out it isn't but still that lineup was pretty darn good.

This is completely semantic, but clone captain came first (not that I didn't think he was fordo when he came out in 2013...). Still seems weird to me that it's them and not a pilot and normal trooper.

Yeah, people have complained about every set more or less, lol. People complain that we aren't getting more prequel sets when the most recent summer wave and upcoming summer wave are plurality prequel era.

HERESY! as you should know, normal eurobricks members NEVER go off-topic!

As for what they do, here's what I could see, based on the fact that while you're right in that they usually have the main characters, it's usually variants (1940s wonder woman and batman, black and white mickey and minne, simpsons variants, random batsuits, etc). So I could see something like (at the risk of getting even more off-topic): the main four of each trilogy (main trio + villian), but in variants. For instance, we could see hooded Rey, Medgown Luke, Padawan anakin (Hey, it's been 8 years) alongside caped grievous, Kylo ren with smashed helmet, and battle-damaged vader.

I think there's enough variety in character that haven't been released or have only been released once or twice in the certain costumes to where they could feasibly put them out in a CMF.

Luke: Endor Luke (one release), Celebration Luke (one release in a book before the medal piece was a thing), Luke from the end of ESB, Farmer Luke with hat + poncho, Battle of Crait, ghost (in the style of Moaning Myrtle from HP)

Han: Green Endor Jacket (one release), Celebration Han (one release in a book, again before the medal piece was a thing), they could probably do a dual-molded ANH Han

Leia: Celebration Leia (one release almost ten years ago), end of ESB Leia, Endor Leia (one release), ghost

Chewbacca: Hoth with snow, goggles/welding tools

Anakin: updated Ep II Anakin (it's been like eight years), updated 2003 Clone Wars, ghost

Obi-Wan: updated TCW with shoulder armor, 2003 Clone Wars, ghost

Yoda: ghost

Padme: Naboo battle outfit, all of her ROTS outfits

Palpatine: Ep I and II Chancellor outfits

You could also supplement that with people like Jango Fett, young Boba Fett, Cody, Rex, etc that don't see a regular release, and then include characters like Aunt Beru, Yaddle, Willrow Hood, various cantina/Jabba's Palace background characters, and such that aren't really major enough to get a release in a set.

Don't count on Grievous in a CMF considering Lego always talks about how expensive his molds are and increases the set price by $15 lol

Imagine if Lego did want to have a laugh and make a Cody P2 helmet - but as part of the helmet 18+ series. Ooo the outrage :iamded_lol:

Anyway - scout trooper helmet I think is a must buy for me. Possibly the probe droid too. Vader will need more detailed images.

This is true, but the thing is, I was scratching my head as to which outfits would even benefit from that much printing and moulding. But, I suppose any Jedi could benefit from dual-moulded legs, and would certainly benefit from LEGO finally creating a cloth cloak.

Then @Kit Figsto came through with those good suggestions that I'd honestly kind of forgotten about. For the OT the trio could all use new versions from the ANH celebration or Endor.

Plus, Rey has needed dual-moulded arms forever, so a CMF would be a place to get them (and finally a different face for her).

All in all I should've thought a bit harder about the possibilities!

I’m sure this will be unpopular, but I did some thinking and came to the conclusion that SW does not really need a cmf. I can see the appeal of one, but I feel like there are a few hitches it would encounter. SW is the theme with the most minifigs. It’s (I think) the longest running licensed theme, and it has no qualms about putting figs in sets where they don’t really belong (Queen Amidala), or minor characters with only a few moments of screen time (Boolio). There are a lot of other themes that probably ought to have a second or third series before SW gets one, and the main draw is just better printing.
The other problem is I think that with the downgrade to 12 figs, you have to decide which things to use. TCW? The Mandalorian? Just the films? I could probably fill a full one with just characters from the Rebels finale.

Also, do you remember the atmosphere during the fan vote? There was a lot of animosity between OT and PT fans, and I think we would get a lot of tribalism if LEGO doesn’t cover one groups favorite character.

I’m not exactly sure where this was going, but I thought I would bring it up.

I have to agree with you here. In my eyes, SW is the only licensed theme that has nothing to gain from a CMF series. Sure, dual-moulded arms and legs are still a rarity in this theme, but the amount of exclusives moulds your average CMF series usually receives is already pretty much on par with the regular sets. Ok, not in this year‘s content so far, but that‘s beside the point

I wouldn‘t be violently opposed to that idea, but I‘d rather see Disney S3, HP S3, Marvel S2, DC S2, or Looney Tunes S2 instead. Or an entirely new IP, as long as it‘s interesting

SW CMF would be such a hard thing. Lego ain't fandom so could be we'd get just our main group with some side characters - representations of characters we know already.

Would be a waste for some, to get a CMF, just to have the good EP IV Luke with side leg printing or something. But could be anyway.

TCW or Rebels is something I would wish for but I believe it to be impossible. Maybe a small inclusion. But mostly we will get figures through the new TV shows.

In any case:

- Saw Gurerra never got a figure and I doubt Lego could do him justice without putting in a lot of effort.
- Padme, mostly the never released EP I version. And yes that is just stupid. We also got the Naboo police folk, pilots and others. So why never Padme WITHOUT belly free shirt or dress? (Ok we did get one neutral version in TCW <3)
- Mando figs as mentioned. Would also not be some wishful thinking but realistic.

- Obi Wan never got a good figure actually. I mean the old one.

like others pointed out, its hard to say where the line could be. Any way would of course be super controversial and 90% of the fanbase would be pissed. If I were Lego I'd try to do a general CMF with one representation of the main characters (OT: Luke, Han, Vader with broken armor, Leia, maybe Obi; young Obi, some Anakin, Padme, Yoda, some Jedi - and then you have like 3 slots for troopers and "niche" figures).

I kind of agree with this. A lot of the other licensed CMF lines have been from themes where the characters are the main focus, and making enough sets to justify so many figs would be tricky: Disney, Looney Tunes, DC to an extent and even the Ninjago Movie. I feel like Star Wars has so much emphasis on the world around the characters as well as the characters themselves that a CMF wouldn't add much.

Equally, I'm not sure how I'd feel if they did troops (212th trooper or Republic Commando, for instance). Not only would any fancy CMF stuff clash with the style in the sets, but amassing an army would not be the easiest thing.

That said I don't care much for minifigures collecting anyway, so I'm probably not the target audience - I bet they would absolutely fly off the shelves anyway. The scalpers would have a field day though.

I think that there a quite a few deserving specific characters that would be great in a CMF, such as seperatist council members, specific clone troopers, like a galactic marine of the worshipped yet elusive P2 Cody. There could be niche variations of figures, such as the sith Rey or stormtrooper Finn, yet I feel that any such series would leave so many characters out, and would be so occluded with main characters and variations there would be no room for any desirable characters like clones or stormtroopers, and I echo previous comments that any prospective army building would be severely inhibited.

Still, I would love nothing more than to be proved incorrect

Army building with a CMF series would be a nightmare. You're already limited by having a small number of duplicates per box. Then there's the frustration of not knowing what figure you're after should Vidiyo's change to cardboard boxes become permanent for all future CMF series. Then on top of that you have to factor in the scalpers who will be hoarding them all from retailers then reselling them for ridiculously high prices. Its just not worth it.

Best solution would be to leave the army building for battle packs and keep a CMF line focused on individual characters.

At most have the clone commanders and Cpt. Phasma in the CMF and maybe a generic stormy or shiny. It either has to be an entire line only of troopers with no commanders or the commanders have to be treated as individual characters in a saga CMF. And if we’re at the point of having a trooper CMF just bring the darn battle packs back. People will buy more of them.

Personally I can't stand blind bags as a general principle, and if Lego start use the Vidiyo boxes everywhere...:ugh:. Anyway, that's just me, I'm sure a hypothetical Star Wars CMF would sell like hotcakes in any format. I'm liking the suggestions above and elsewhere for figs, seems there are enough variations of main characters and/or rare characters either unreleased or needing a rerelease to make it work. In the past we could have expected such figures to show up as the 4th,5th etc. fig in a play set and get them that way, but that's happening less and less lately (apologies to General Dodonna).

The problem here is that, while LEGO does a good job releasing a broad array of characters from new/current media, their support for older media (OT, PT, etc.) is pretty lackluster when it comes to minifigs. Looking back over the past 4-5 years of sets, we only get a few truly new characters per year. (This year, Dadonna is the only one so far; last year, the only new characters came in the cantina, a $350 D2C; the year before that, it was Bail Antilles and Zuckuss).

Other than that, it's pretty much existing OT/PT characters recycled, with "upgraded" printing or the occasional variation like scorch marks on Ani/Obi. While, yes, there would be lots of mainstream heroes in a CMF, there is also room for more obscure secondary characters and unproduced outfits that would otherwise never see the light of day (unless they somehow show up in Mandalorian or Rogue Squadron or whatever movie/show comes next). And, make no mistake about it... there are a lot of these left to do.
