Greef Karga's head looks like a custom. Nice to get a reddish brown head with a grey beard though (finally...)

They really look like good custom figures. Does Lego do printing in the vertical part of the hip piece (where the legs are connected)?

Sometimes. I know for a fact Zod has printing there.

If the rest of the figures are this quality and the builds are good, this might be the best wave in years. I really expected them to mess a wave of CW and Mando sets up with bad prices, mediocre builds and lazy figures, but so far its looking promising.

There’s only one tiny issue I have with the Mortar Trooper: they should’ve gone with bright light orange rather than yellow  It’s not completely off the way it is, just not as accurate as it could have been

I was about to comment the same thing, they have the perfect colour in their palette for those markings.

Greef looks amazing but that mortar trooper is disgusting. What is with LEGO and oversized helmets??? I don’t know why they insist on using that mould, the figure can’t turn its head while wearing that waste of plastic. They realised their mistake with the rebel pilot helmet but they’re turning a blind eye to this one for whatever reason.

The leakers that said we could be seeing Lego SW minifigures soon was not kidding lmao. It didn’t even take a full day.

Both of these new figures are absolutely gorgeous. Greef is a great representation of his Season 2 look and I am also glad that he looks less plain than his counterpart from the Razor Crest. (Sidenote, but I also hope we see more of the character himself in Season 3 or one of these other D+ shows.) Coming from someone who generally likes the newer stormtrooper helmet mold, I think the Mortar Stormtrooper is one of the best looking Star Wars troopers we’ve gotten in minifigure form. It’s just so detailed, and it makes me really hope for an Incinerator Stormtrooper as well at some point.

Between these figures and the ones from the Bad Batch set, this summer’s selection of Lego Star Wars minifigures is already looking to be pretty spectacular.

This is turning into a great year for figures. Greef looks great, I think the mortar trooper looks pretty grand as well, although having them stood next to Greef does really emphasise just how big their heads are.

LEGO have really upped their game with troops recently. With this, the Bad Batch and the aforementioned new scout trooper looking as good as they do, I have high hopes for the dark troopers.

Which figures are you looking forward to the most? Personally, I can’t wait to see Gideon, the Darktroopers, Fennec, and Bo-Katan :sweet: If they’re anywhere near the quality of these two or the Bad Batch, we’re in for a treat!

Honestly I'm excited for all of them. Darth Maul, Bo-Katan, Fennec Shand, Moff Gideon, Gar Saxon, the Darktroopers, Paz Vizsla, The Armorer... it really is shaping up to be a fantastic summer wave!

The Imperial Shuttle and Death Star Battle sets are the only currently available ones that include the minifigures of Luke and Darth Vader?

I’m not sure if Vader’s Castle is still available, but if it’s not, then those are the only current sets to include Vader, yes. They’re the only sets with ROTJ Luke right now, but there’s a lot of other sets with Luke from ANH and ESB out right now.

That’s definitely up there too! I’m excited to get an extra one in the Advent Calendar.

While I think the new figs look good, thankfully they're not enough to change my mind about the set - which means there's all of 1 set that I'm definitely not getting.

Similar. Bo is #1 for me and Saxon after that because of how much I enjoyed SoM. I'm also looking forward to the new Mando characters (Gideon, Darktroopers, Armorer, & Paz). SoM Maul, too. I'm not hyped, per se, for Fennic but she's going to be getting a lot of screen time over the next year so it's likely that I will be, I will be...

Finally some exciting SW factory leaks again  When was the last time we actually got proper factory leaks? 1HY 2021 was incredibly boring with only two new minifigs, 2HY 2020 was leaked in catalogue form before any factory leaks occured, and 1HY 2020 was already officially revealed by the time the leaks hit, so probably 2HY 2019 with the TROS sets

I think we got factory leaks from the cantina...I'm not 100% positive but I seem to remember Ponda Baba leaking early.

And about the latest Bad Batch episode,

In the opening shot with the ship in hyperspace, it looked pretty much accurate to the sand blue color.  I think gray would just be a little bit too dark for it.

I noticed in a couple of shots of the premiere, that’s already actually smears of brighter blue paint on TBB Shuttle’s texture. Even brighter than lego’s sand blue. I’ll try and get a screenshot if I can.

I’m gonna need a couple of those mortar troopers.

So apparently MandR just made a video stating that the whole hasbro having an exclusive license to making Star Wars figs is a lie and that lego could do it this whole time—so, three questions—

1. Mods, is this the correct thread to discuss this?

2. How can we be sure he’s right?

3. What does this mean for the future of LSW figs?

I was thinking the same thing! I still think it looks excellent in yellow though. Glad to see people are STILL complaining about the Stormtrooper helmet mold at every opportunity :hmpf: If the leaks are true and this comes with the mortar trooper and 2 regular stormies I may have to pick up one or even two of these, the Greef Karga fig comes with some excellent prints for custom figs, very star wars-y

To be honest, and this is just my conjecture, I sort of doubt that this information is publicly available.  I think the exact details of licenses (that is, the financials, the specifics of exclusivity, in which areas they're limited, and so on) are probably kept deeply under wraps to both appease the licensee and perhaps make it more difficult for competitors to come in and poach a license (which is unlikely with a major partner like SW or Disney, but for their smaller licenses, it could be a concern).

On top of that, they attempted to sell minifigures alone twice and both times cancelled the lines (the early 2000s minifigure packs, then the magnet sets pre-2010ish, when they switched over to glued figures).  Now, you could argue that those were simply not profitable, but I think the magnet sets were like $15 or something, which essentially boils down to $5 per figure, plus 3 magnetic bases.  Even if that may have cut into sales of some larger sets, I don't think it would've hurt profit enough to warrant discontinuing the line outright.  I have no idea what their costs per piece are, but I'd imagine it becomes an economies of scale sort of thing, and I would imagine those magnet sets were probably almost pure profit.

Furthermore, the fact that they've had a HP minifigure series offering characters that are also available in larger sets (rather than the Lego Batman movie wave, where most of the figures were exclusive to the CMF series) suggests to me that offering figures by themselves in addition to large sets wouldn't necessarily cut into their revenue from selling sets.

I think it's possible that the license has changed recently, especially considering how much smoke there's been around it, but there's no way that it's been the case for the entirety of LSW - that minifigure pack line from the early 2000s definitely would've continued if that were the case.

1. Who or what is Mandr?

Who was saying someone from Lego was stating this? Or that this person was right/believing or not believing this or even lying? Or is it something some people here believe of the company instead of knowing?

Who here knows the details of contracts between Disney and TLG? Who knows the dynamics between designers, higher upps, marketing people?

What I just find sad is that except for very few interviews we seem to have a very bad relationship with the company at hand. Instead of reaching out Lego seems to be quite secretive and intransparent. I guess the egocentric adult but childish fandom is also not helping. But the point would be to get closer to each other by listening and understanding. Rumors of some instagram people are for sure not helping.

At the end of the day though, Lego is a profit oriented toy company, within a profit oriented economic system. So, some corporate hags will decide without knowing or loving the community, the product or the content. I don't think designers have too much freedom.
