100% agree, they are using the same build/mold for battle droids since 1999,they age terribly and super battle droids legs are literally breaking after time,i am afraid to even touch my commando droids

I sort of like the battle droid mould, as I think changing it now when it is probably the most common figure would greatly upset most collectors while there wouldn’t be enough wanting the change to counter that. I haven’t had any problems with the super battle droid legs on my K2SO or commando droids (don’t have any super battle droids) although they’re not that old. I think an improvement would be to use the skeleton arm piece 93601 on battle droids which when placed the wrong way around holds blasters in a much better position

I think the problem with the SBD legs was due to the pearlescent plastic they were made of rather than the molds themselves. They definitely break very easily, and I've had a lot of the arms break too, more than should be justified given how thick those clips are. It's like how lime green and dark red pieces are notoriously brittle. The black K2 and brown commando droids don't have the same issue, at least that I've experienced.

I don't understand hate towards MandR,he said LEGO stopped making battlepacks for now which they did,he never said they won't make them ever again.
He is right about LEGO selling minifigures too,it's really weird how other companies can make figures, but lego can't. Just look up Kubricks Star Wars figures, hot toys, star wars miniatures etc, also how can LEGO individually sell 20th anniversary Obi ? Or make figures in magazines without builds? Your opinion of him on the side, something is really off here,LEGO designers say 1 thing and proof + logic says the other..

I dislike the channel because of the entitled persona he portrays in his videos. He’s the only content creator in his age group that I know of, an age group that I feel is underrepresented within the wider LEGO community, and his content reflects badly on the group as a whole. It was specifically a video on the UCS Star Destroyer that made me stop watching his content, in which he showed a photo of the set that originated from someone who received it early to review, he proceeded to turn the video into a rant about how he deserved to receive review copies too (iirc one of his points was a promise not to leak anything - in a video where he was showing leaked images. Imagine my surprise when they booted him from LAN because of leaking). As someone who has received sets to review in the past, I know first hand that a level of maturity is expected. Myself and others worked very hard for the opportunity to be a part of the program and from what I gather this guy just made video after video begging to be let in and it worked.

As far as the minifigure topic goes, what the LEGO designers tell us perfectly lines up with the “proof and logic”. All of those companies you listed will have their own licensing agreements, each with their own specific details as to what they can and cannot do. If LEGO says they cannot make a minifigure series because of the contract, they can’t do it. If they were able to, they would’ve done it by now because they’re clearly aware of the demand for it. The Obi-Wan poly was a promotional release, the figures with the magazines aren’t the only thing you receive with the purchase, and perhaps most importantly neither of those examples were/are widely available to customers around the world like a CMF would be.

Can we stop making personal attacks towards MandR every time he's mentioned in this forum? He's a member of the forum and deserves the same respect as anybody else. If you don't like him or his content, don't watch it.

+1.

Glad that battle packs don't seem to be dead, although it does make me wonder why they've taken a break. It's interesting to hear the reasoning on the CMF thing as well, I didn't know that they had to have a certain number of bricks to be considered a toy.

The duel on Mandalore set is also confirmed to have the throne, smashable bay window and Maul's prison thingy. Not a surprise but nice to see confirmation.

+1. We get it, he has an arrogant and entitled persona in a lot of his videos. So I deal with it by just not watching them. We don't need 3 pages of complaining about him every time he's brought up.

I‘d usually agree (don‘t watch it if you don‘t like it), but this time he went too far. Being entitled is one thing, but here he actively tried to turn his fanbase against TLG with obvious, blatant lies, probably as a petty act of revenge for being kicked out of LAN. Judging by some of the recent content on IG, many people actually took the bait. This sort of behaviour does and should not deserve any respect

I see, I’ve had one battle droid legs break, which was from the old droid from the Jakku set so I didn’t really mind, though they are a weak mould overall, my main issue is that the joints weaken and become very flimsy. However I feel that in a way it is representative of the character it portrays

Bo-Katan minifigure description is out there. Check Falconfans Instagram story for the info. Seems like we’re soon getting a look at it, since descriptions usually leak a few days before the actual figure pic. I hope there’s ones silver details in the figure, but the grey base might go well with the 2011 mandalorians.

Very glad Battle Packs aren't dead as well. What are some people's dream battle packs? Any remakes you'd all like?

Delta squad and Crosshair's squad would be nice

Glad to hear we’re getting battle packs in the future. I hope it’s not stormtroopers, since the Trexler Marauder works as a battle pack, and they’re pretty much included everywhere. I personally wouldn’t like a droid battle pack either, more a troop carrier like the ones we’ve gotten from TPM. Clones, rebels, death troopers and mandalorian super commandos are the ones I would love to see in battle packs.

Why does everyone seem to think Delta Squad has any chance of appearing again? Especially in Bad Batch? Maybe EA will remake the game like they remade Battlefront, but I don't strongly believe they would even do that.

Anyway, they'd just use Invincible Iron Man helmets for the figures and everyone would complain.

I think it mostly has to do with the fact that the Bad Batch is kind of the one remaining clone special ops unit so people are hoping for Delta Squad because it would be a cool combination. Honestly the Invincible Iron Man helmets wouldn’t be a horrible piece to use. Somehow Lego’s created a piece that’s absolute hot garbage for the character it was designed for but works very well for a bunch of other characters :imperialguard_commander1:

I could be wrong, but didn't some of the leakers post that they heard the same information about CMFs from their sources as well?

You mean that Lego was allowed to do a Star Wars CMF this whole time? I don't think so, no.

I understand where you are coming from, but i also understand he is young and you and me and ton of people in that age range did and said some stupid stuff and probably no one cared while he has 300k people constantly watching and judging him. I hated his AAT review, but i can just stop watching his reviews, life is too short to hate i don't wanna find myself in 50 years waving my stick at the sky and yelling damn you MandR for that 2020 AAT review and this thread can't turn into 6 page rants about him every time he is mentioned especially since he is a member of this forum.

On topic of lego selling individual figures, they said that the build inside has to offer play experience and i really don't know how a 20th anniversary stand offers any kind of play experience while buying 20th anniversary obi and if it is a promo and they are aware of a demand why are they not making more figure promos and instead they make terrible builds as may the 4th promo for example. Just sell all the other figures with stands then, there is always star wars anniversary of something at this point. Some people say they have different contracts, how does a multi million company like LEGO have such a bad contract deal and random companies from all over the world that sell action figures like hasbro have mastermind negotiators?

Multi - billion.

And a great question.

At some point y'all are going to have to make peace with the fact that nobody outside LEGO and Disney knows what those contracts say. You don't know, MandR doesn't know (despite what he may claim), and LEGO doesn't seem inclined to say anything about it other than the one interview ten years ago or whenever that started the whole debate in the first place, so there's simply no way for us to get any insight into that process and speculating about it doesn't accomplish much. The ultimate answer is always that LEGO will make [insert whatever product you're annoyed that they haven't made] the very first moment that a) they have the legal ability to and b) their market research convinces them that it will be the most profitable of their options, with the understanding that, as vocal as the AFOL community may be, we're very rarely the actual target demographic and what everybody here wants is not a good proxy for what the general public wants.

Wishful thinking combined with the fact RC got a rerelease a month ago. I'd take anyone in Delta Squad over pretty much any Clone Trooper to be made, however they're really not relevant right now (they're only currently canon because of a 20 second cameo in TCW, that's it). I don't think we'll ever see a Clone Commando figure honestly.

LEGO responds to rumours over Star Wars minifigure licensing rights (brickfanatics.com)

This interview just released this week and the design manager of LEGO Star Wars clearly explained the many nuances and intricacies of the contract TLG has with Disney and LucasFilm. LEGO has made it very clear what they can and can't do under their current contract. That's why it's being discussed right now, since it's been making waves again with (false) rumours, and TLG actually responded to them.

LEGO cannot release Star Wars action figures (minifigures as standalone items). They can only release promotional material, merchandise (ie pens) or minifigures that come with the bare minimum of contractually-obligated number of bricks in order to qualify as a "construction toy" (For the other commenter who said they need to have bricks to be considered a toy, that's not true. Construction is the key criteria that LEGO is required to meet)

LEGO's contract with Lucasfilm (and now Disney) has only been around since the late 1990's. But Hasbro has had exclusive commercial rights for Star Wars action figures since well before that. Hasbro's targeted market is the exact same as LEGO's - and relatively recently, LEGO surpassed Hasbro as the most valuable toy company in the world. The reason other small companies are able to produce collectible series figures that resemble action figures, is because they have negotiated those contracts specifically with Hasbro as an additional part of the licensing agreement with Lucasfilm/Disney. And the vast majority of that collectible market is solely for adults and not for kids who want to play. But there's no way on Earth that Hasbro would allow their biggest competitor to sell toys that directly compete with their brand and further eat up their own market share. It makes zero sense for them to allow that as the current contracts exist. That's why any Star Wars CMF - minifigures marketed and sold exclusively as standalone play figures - cannot happen until those contracts are renegotiated and Hasbro loses the exclusivity they have on the license. (the 20th anniversary figure had bricks and was also considered a promotional item. They're limited by how far they can go with promotional content, which is probably a combination of having to do things in partnership with LucasFilm/Disney, and not risking legal action from Hasbro for skirting the rules of the contract)

LEGO's negotiators aren't bad, but these contracts have been in place since well before LEGO was even considering releasing CMF's for any of their lines. They're literally not in a position to negotiate until the contracts expire in 2022. (Is that a confirmed date, btw? Or just the one that everyone throws around?)

Yeah, based on the interview I don't think there's anything more nefarious at work than 'contract says no'. I think 2022 is one of those that gets thrown around - I feel like 2021 got thrown around a lot about a year ago for the same argument.

They re-released it for the switch and PS4, maybe they want everyone to know their story before introducting them in Bad Batch

After they announced they were re-releasing Clone Commandos, I immediately thought they might be making a sequel or reboot about the Bad Batch! I feel like they're perfect for a game set during the Clone Wars.

There's some new info about the Bo-Katan figure and the Mandalorian throne set. Bo sounds about how I expected minus the use of dark grey instead of silver or gunmetal but I guess it is a Clone Wars set, not Mandalorian. With the throne set, having a hidden compartment under the throne with a blaster sounds about right and I'm glad to hear a stained glass window is included and that there's a feature to throw a figure through.
