Zepher Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 The defend and rally appear to the do the same thing, albeit with different stat pools. Is that correct? Rally makes sense to me, but defend seems like it should be defensive instead of boosting offense? Quote

The intention is for the Defend action to add your Skill dice to your ally's Skill dice the next time they try and avoid damage. Quote

The intent is that the additional dice from Defend are added to the roll you make to reduce damage when attacked, whereas Rally is added to the roll you make when you attack someone. There are a couple places in the WiP classes that refer to the former as an 'Armor Check' and it may be a good idea to retroactively add this term to the main rules. Quote

OK. 👍 Is it possible to get an enemy to surrender via proficiency checks, or, once begun, must a battle proceed until one side is dead? Quote

There is no hard and fast answer to this. In general yes, but without specific rules it's ultimately down to MM fiat. Quote

It is possible to simply fight till you knock the other side unconscious. Getting them to surrender is also a possibility, but considering the party is in combat, the check is very difficult. Quote
Duvors Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 @Khorne @samurai-turtle The current rally action Polaris is taking won't affect Felix until next round as they come after Felix in the turn order. If you want a rallied attack this round Felix would have to rally Polaris. Also please note that if Varen dies they won't be able to participate in the rest of the quest as per the rules, I doubt KotZ would enjoy that. Quote

I'm pretty ready with a character once I decide on a race (if anyone wants to pick one for me... I will be asking someone else to build the mini so maybe it'd be fun to see the mini first and build out the character from there...)! I wanted to go support spell caster, but it seems like there is a good way to play support (offense) by boosting smarts, or support (defense) by pumping skills. That's interesting. This is the original load out I'm imagining. Is there no way to buy Vitality/Velocity directly? They are linked exclusively to Strength/Skill? Character Points: 0/10Vitality: 5/5Velocity: 2Strength: 1Skill: 2Smarts: 2Spirit: 3Proficiencies: Occult 1, Religion 1, Persuasion 1, Insight 1Known Spells: Healing Light, Mystic Binding, Gravity SinkCredits: 10Equipment: ??? I like the Thudaal, Valtar, Celestials, and Quarm. I know I'm putting a lot on other people, but I feel like it'd be interesting to try to let others help build a character somewhat, and then explore them? It's something I've never done before in an RPG. So, any of those races feel interesting or underrepresented or challenging to me or would be an interesting fit with the proficiencies I threw out (I feel like in this system, proficiencies are the initial base of a character). Zepher Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 Finally, WBD, since you're playing another heavy spell caster I was checking out your character. It looks like you have four spells prepped, but only 3 spirit? Is this a mistake? Or does your "Nature 2" somehow come into play here? Quote

WBD's character started with the 'Researcher' kit, which gives them an item (Holo-Scroll) that grants an additional spell. 33 minutes ago, Zepher said: I like the Thudaal, Valtar, Celestials, and Quarm. I could do something, but the only way I can get decent lighting for a photo is to take it outside and it's been raining a lot around here recently. I'll see if I can do anything. Quote

If it costs 2 points to increase strength by one (which inherently increases vitality by one), and 2 points to increase vitality by one, why wouldn't someone always select the strength+vitality option? And thank you for the Holo-Scroll answer. Good item to know about! Quote

And thank you for the Holo-Scroll answer. Good item to know about! The bonus to Vitality is for every 2 points of Strength. So you have to invest 8 total points into Strength to = 2 extra points of Vitality. Or you can just invest directly in Vitality for 4 points. Admittedly when creating a character for the first time your best investment is to put 2 points into Strength. However after that first investment if you're just interested in raising Vitality its more economical to just spend points directly on it. Quote
Zepher Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Gotcha, gotcha, okay I'm following now. Not trying to be a stickler, just want to make sure I understand the system. So is that stat block I posted up thread correct? I spent no points of Velocity, but have 2 in skill and so it bumps? Is it +1 Vitality/Velocity on multiples of 2 (2, 4, 6, 8) or on multiples of 2 +base:1 (3,5,7,9)? Quote
