Sorry to bump this topic. I've been working to build this MOC in the intended red/black theme. Definitely been a challenge working from the digital model, but the sub-models structure has really helped. Not finished yet, still to build the ballasts, Y-guy assembly and the various jibs.

Its a really good scale with the 49.5 tires, not too heavy that there are problems with the functions and stability. The boom lifts and extends remarkably well (without Y-guy & jib)

Thanks for sharing and I will post more photos and maybe a video once I have the jib finished.

Forgot about this.  Glad you bumped it.  Great build.  I wish I had time to build it.

I had also forgotten about it, almost two years. I was looking for a crane build and contemplating rebuilding Jereon's LTM11200 when I found the ldr file in another folder. I spent a couple of days looking at the file and coming up with a plan how I would build it.

Looks great in those colors.  Glad you enjoyed it so far.  I'll be very keen to see how it looks when you finish it.  I've actually been thinking about rebuilding it lately but haven't gotten around to it, been busy with work and a few other models.  Anyway, now I would definitely have to order red and black parts to build it since my original patchwork version doesn't compare well to yours

I will warn you to be careful with the flying jib.  I didn't put any safety struts into the design and I managed to flip mine over backwards on a couple of occasions by raising it to too high an angle.  The collapse was sudden and spectacular and not something I ever experienced with a crawler crane.

Sorry, one last bump.

Managed to finish the build. Changed the counterweights to my own design (based on parts available). Also attempted to build the luffing jib from the photos. As you mention, does tend to destabilize everything, so can understand why it was excluded in the digital file. Enjoyed building this, time to start working on the next MOC(s)

Photos on bricksafe page.

Now waiting for instructions

Still no instructions but the LDraw model is posted on my Bricksafe page, link is further back in the thread if you want it.  Now that I have some modest experience with making instructions for things I can say that it would take me a lot longer to build good instructions for this than I have time to put towards it.  Anyone else is welcome to though.  The model should import into Stud.io easily enough but probably needs some cleaning up of invalid color parts.  I also realized I was previously building everything with an old version of black pin that is rare now, I'm sure this file will be like that.  I don't know if @nigel1975 already has an improved .io file.

Sorry to bump this but I'm pleased to report that @seregiz has made instructions for this and a cleaned up Stud.io file.  Plus he took a ton of great photos.  Now available on Rebrickable and Bricksafe, free of charge.  I contributed a Stud.io file for the luffing jib and 3rd winch for anyone adventurous but I didn't do instructions for them, they are simple enough to build.

Surprised this is not getting more attention.  I think this is brilliant.  TY for the upload.

I have been so engaged in building others work for some time I haven't done anything original for a while.  That being said, I really would like to add this to my collection.

Thanks for the instructions. What kind of string did you use?

Personally I use 100 pound or 200 pound braided kevlar usually for my cranes, get it from Amazon.  https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B089SGWBT5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

It's strong and not stretchy and much thinner than Lego string so I can pack much longer lengths onto a given size winch.  But it's not as soft as Lego string and can get more tangled.  Not sure what kind Seregiz used when he built it.  I know lots of people sell braided nylon on Amazon, any of those should be very similar to Lego string if you prefer that.  All are cheap, even kevlar.  You probably need about 20-25m for this crane.

Well people here have already seen it so I don't expect a ton of comments, just wanted to make people aware of @seregiz's awesome instructions.  It's getting plenty of attention on Rebrickable, a lot of downloads in just a few days.  I'm surprised so many people would consider building such a big MOC.

Doesn't that make reeving difficult?

No, actually I find it easier to thread through things because it's thinner but stiffer.  It's not really that prone to tangling, just more so than the Lego string which is nearly impossible to tangle.  If you throw several meters of the Kevlar in a heap on the floor and then wind it up you are likely to come across a small tangle while winding but it isn't prone to tying itself in real knots.

notably the width is way out of proportion compared to the other dimensions

I assume the reference to the width is that it is too wide?  I count 15 studs wide for the chassis.  I think if one counts the width with the wheels it is likely more?

I found some wheels that may work with this model with some tweaks.  THey are larger, so I would have to increase the length, perhaps making the scale to width better.  I will see when they arrive.

If not I may redo my Grove 64000 with these tires. We shall see....

BTW...you have a video of this working?

Yes, it is too wide for scale by quite a bit.

Those tires look good but from the video they seem really soft.  Do you think they will be able to support heavy models like this or your Grove?  I guess the weight is distributed over a lot of tires, maybe ok.

I did not make a video originally and my crane has been disassembled for a few years so I can't make one easily now.  @seregiz and @nigel1975 both took some awesome photos of theirs but told me it was too large for them to easily make videos.

They are very soft.  Better use on my model (manual versus motorized), but I think they would work.  They are really sticky as well, would be great for a small truck or crawler - type vehicle.  About the fit, they are bit thin for the rim 56145.  But they work.  Work better with a custom rim I have devised out of three pulley wheels and six 1/2 pins with stud.  Easier to show in pic.  I am traveling at the moment but I will try and take some pics when I get home.
