It's actually like going to your parents' closet a day before Christmas, and seeing four presents in there — but the next day you only get three of them, and you're confused as to why you didn't get the fourth one.

This is good. And your parents have a really strong reason why they didn’t give you the fourth one yet but you don’t know what it is and you get really mad about it anyway

How do we know it actually is a good reason? The Osprey cancellation is equally baffling and they never gave a proper explanation

Also, there’s an important aspect missing from our metaphor (which I guess is my fault since I started with that in the first place): We knew about our “presents” since last July :hmpf_bad: Months of build-up and anticipation dashed in an instant.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be mad about a set being canned mere weeks ahead of its release, 7 months after we learned of its existence. Call me entitled, but this development really does bother me.

They did tho.

The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military. We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature real military vehicles, so it has been decided not to proceed with the launch of this product. We appreciate that some fans who were looking forward to this set may be disappointed, but we believe it's important to ensure that we uphold our brand values.

I won’t because you’re not, but you’re certainty acting like you are.

I’ve waited 15 years to get my hands on a lego temple of doom set since I missed the first one and I’m pretty bummed about it too. If they don’t release it I’ll wait a year or so and try to get the original used online. It’s good that we have a built in alternative really.

Sure, I know they put out that statement. That‘s not a proper explanation though, because if that‘s the reason, how did it go that far into production? Not a single person involved in the process noticed it was a military vehicle until release? :laugh_hard:

No no, I meant that technical flaw that people discovered afterwards, where a gear vital to the model was completely shredded after a few uses of the set‘s main function. That must‘ve played into the cancellation decision too.

I own that set, but contrary to what other people say, I don‘t think the 2008/09 sets have aged that gracefully, especially the minifigs. Not putting them on display again

Also I want to know the reason for the cancellation so we can figure out whether ToD as a whole is off the table or just this set. I hope we can get updated minifigs of Short Round and Willie in another set at least

"In July, the German Peace Society issued a warning against LEGO releasing the licensed V-22. Despite rebranding of the aircraft in the set to make it a search and rescue aircraft, the German Peace Society released a statement saying:

On 1. August 2020 LEGO® plans to release its first ever military set while internal corporate value documents forbid the production of current military vehicles. The German DFG-VK also criticises the license placed on the set. With every buy, customers help to finance arms companies."

Last post about this tho, it's way too off-topic.

I have no idea why people think they aged well.

By today's standards, the minifigures are pretty bad, especially the faces.

The builds also don't hold up particularly well. LEGO could do a much better job nowadays.

I think this sort of thing is inevitable when we’re invested in Lego enough to keep track of leaks. I mean to an outsider, religiously following leaks of a plastic building block toy would just sound ridiculous

But really, when we know things perhaps earlier than they are ready to be known by the consumer, it does set up for disappointment when things like this happen because from an end consumer perspective, that set technically never existed to begin with.

I certainly feel significantly bummed out about the ToD being cancelled, but more so I’m disappointed in the prospect of the next wave being adversely impacted in some fashion as well. I don’t know if it can be attributed to incompetence / errors on Lego’s part, last minute objections from Lucasfilm, or whatever it may be, but this has been a reminder for me to get less invested in upcoming sets until they’re officially revealed. My disappointment with Marvel and Star Wars has probably exacerbated this feeling, so it’s time to take a step back.

Really sucks to hear that, I never owned a Temple of Doom set so was really excited for that, hoping we get a reason if it is cancelled. Hopefully it’s just postponed like the mechs or that architecture set.

still excited for the sets we are getting though

That doesn‘t really guarantee anything either, see the Osprey or the Overwatch 2 set

Ngl that would be really funny

Would it really thought?

If it is a design flaw that was only caught shortly before it was suppose to announced/released, like the Marvel mechs were, or like the Osprey possibly was, then doesn't that all kinda imply that there are issues (possibly major ones) with Lego's design process. Especially when you take into account other recent sets with with design issues like the Doctor Strange tentacle monster set.

Like if it was just the Marvel mechs that had an issue, that they fixed and still released, then fair enough, it would have been just a one off thing that's kinda funny in hindsight. But if the Osprey really was in fact cancelled due to design issues that weren't caught until just before release and a Marvel set was released with issues that weren't caught until customers got their hands on them and then this set is possibly cancelled because of issues with it's design... that all seems to be something to be concerned about.

This is why they don’t want leaks, so they don’t have to give answers they don’t need to give 🤷🏽‍♂️

But leaks do happen, and here we are.

Im really annoyed that these leakers are claiming the Temple of Doom is fully canned and has been for months. Yet not explaining how copies of that set got made (considering that was the American copy that leaked) on top of that if it has been cancelled for months why did nobody say anything? Sets NEVER fully leak then just never come out.

So a few things

1. The picture that leak wasn’t from a physical copy. That was a rendered box image

2. It’s not uncommon for sets to sets fully leak and not come out. For example the leak of the bomb factory. That was leaked in the instruction book and that was canceled

Would be sad if this set really is cancelled. Short Round is lil Chang's favourite character, and now he won't be able to get a physical copy of him!

I haven’t seen any reliable leakers claim the set is “fully canned.” Promobricks put out the initial news as an update on the set’s release. They said it could be postponed or cancelled.

It’s not confirmation of anything, and I’m sure they have their reasons. After all, the release of the first Indiana Jones sets is only 5 weeks away- info has been shared for sets that are 5 months out. So before we take things out of context or decide in our infinite wisdom that it’s been cancelled for good, let’s wait for more facts to emerge.

Stories develop. Let’s allow this one to play out.

The bomb factory was actually canned at the last minute though. People are claiming the temple of doom was canned months ago so what would mean what? December? November? Possibly even October? This whole thing makes no sense and now the conflicting info on Indy 5 sets makes me think this is it for Indy and anyshot at getting things like Club Obi Wan,Circus Train, anything Crystal Skull related are just dead.

@Bricky Dee Williams Greekbricks is the one who sent me DM’s saying it’s cancelled and has been cancelled for months others on this thread have seen those same screenshots and can vouch for me on this.

GreekBricks also said we were getting a $250 Fortnite Battle Bus and that the 2023 modular building was a strip club. You picked a real winner there.

I think we should all wait for more info. Promobricks is incredibly reliable, and again, I’m sure they had their reasons for announcing the set’s delay *and/or* cancellation.

I misspoke I keep doing that it was Brickclicker (greekbricks doesn’t know what is going on with the Temple)

Citing Greekbricks as a source is about as credible as asking Verbal Kint who Keyser Söze is.

In any case, it seems pretty apparent that at this point in time, no one is confident in if it’s a cancelation or a delay. But they’re confident enough to broadcast to us that it’s one of the two. Anyone claiming otherwise out of the blue should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

For those of you who have seen pictures of the car, is it 6 wide or 8? My reason is I was thinking about using it in my Johnny Thunder display, but only if it's six wide.

Thanks in advance!

Looks 8 wide from the image I have. The front bumper is made up a 29119 and a 29120 with a 41740 in-between.
