So intriguing.  The only (likely useless) thought I have is that the ToD set is most like a roller coaster (which is why I wanted multiples!), and the Indy ride at Disneyland just underwent a refurbishment (opening end of March as of right now).  So maybe Disney wanted the release of this coaster set to match its new Indy ride with possibly new features?

The Indy ride at Disneyland is not a rollercoaster, nor you are riding in minecarts. The ride vehicles are jeeps and there are no plans to change. It is also in a differnt temple.

I could see Lego making a separate  set  based on the ride with the same temple ( Of the Forebidden Eye) as the ride, and the jeep.

When I saw Brick Clicker's video yesterday, I was almost a little annoyed for a moment. I'm not sure if it's frustration with the unclear situation, but I'm often stunned by such statements.
Even if he ends up being right, how would he know that for sure? If he's right, wasn't it more of a coincidence in the end?
As far as I know, there is still no official confirmation from LEGO about this.

Is it really? These leaks have been quite major. Also, confirmation bias - no one remembers leaks that didn’t happen because they didn’t exist.

I already had the impression that there were significantly more and significantly more meaningful leaks to other series and sets, of course I can be wrong, or the impression is strengthened because I am much more deeply involved in this topic than with others

As far as official confirmations go, we aren't getting Indiana Jones sets at all — because LEGO has actually never confirmed the revival of this theme.

Those are all just rumours, technically (even tho we've seen leaked images).

As for the Temple of Doom, a toy retailer has recently uploaded the sets — and guess which one was missing?

THIS

I tried to know what's happening with the Temple of Doom set through the Lego Ambassador Network and it's impossible, at least until the day they reveal the sets. And I'm not expecting that we will hear anything about that set after the reveal because, usually, if it hasn't been officially announced, it doesn't exist.

That's true, but it leaked through a retailer — LEGO themselves haven't actually commented on it.

We know about the sets from various sources — leaked images, retailers, leakers — but LEGO has never officially mentioned those sets.

With the April wave being so small now, imagine if the Dial of Destiny sets were revealed alongside the OT ones?

I mean, it won’t happen and no one actually knows what’s going on with the second wave (if it is coming at all), but one can dream.

Essentially, that's exactly what I was getting at.
There is nothing official yet.
And the teaser in the SmythsToys catalog is also not an official confirmation for me, just marketing by SmythsToys for a partial exclusivity, but not a "promise" that LEGO will launch the series on time in April.
SmythsToys certainly has a good relationship with LEGO, so in principle I assume that the series will come, but if that actually happens in April, or later, we don't know.
I would say the teaser in the catalog is advertising /marketing and at best a non-binding declaration of intent, but nothing more.
It wouldn't be the first time something appears in the catalogue, but then either doesn't appear at all or is published late. Think of the Minions sets being postponed due to the film postponement, which in turn was due to the pandemic.

How funny would it be if all of the leaks were actually for Megabricks or another brand and Lego never actually intended to make any Indiana Jones sets at all?

About as funny as a broken leg on the first day of vacation,...

However, branding the leaks with LEGO would have made little sense...

Wasn‘t TLG announced as one of the companies producing merch for DoD or am I just delusional? :laugh_hard:

Either way, the whole thing is just sad. Minions and Trolls get big pompous announcements a year in advance and the Indy sets will likely just randomly drop on s@h without any fanfare  At least the sets and minifigs look good!

Actually, no. Only Hasbro and Funko as toy companies: https://www.sknr.net/2023/01/16/confirmed-licensee-categories-for-indiana-jones-and-the-dial-of-destiny/

About the pompous announcements, Avatar also had one. A couple of months before release (July 20th). This is why all the Indy stuff feels so weird.

Avatar and Indy are very similar themes to some extend (Disney franchises, first wave of four sets and a second wave for teh new movie, etc), so I can't see why Indy is being announced so late and so close to the release date (impliying it will be released and everything leaked is real :laugh_hard:).

Yikes. No announcements, no teasers, no rumours even (as far as DoD is concerned), and then the cancellation reports.

Had the sets and Indy minifig not been leaked, at this point I would straight up refuse to believe the theme is coming back :sceptic:

 I’m shooting myself in the foot saying this but based on how things usually go with Lego reveals and the sets coming we should get official pictures in the next 50 hours

I would bet Indy is just a regular shop at home drop with 3 sets and no comment about the missing

Probably, yeah.

I was initially hoping for a Potter-style return of the theme, but now this seems more like a small one-off thing. At this point, I’d be shocked if the theme continued beyond 2023

It is and has been so quiet regarding official statements from LEGO.
If the teaser weren't in the SmythsToys catalogue, it could be assumed that a release in April would never have been pIanned at all. The leaked images are said to be a few months old and only recently leaked. Very annoying.

Should that actually happen, I'll send hugs from Austria in advance! :-)

Come to think of it, they might be older than that even. Promobricks gave us very detailed set descriptions last July, so much so that they must’ve seen finalised images. I wouldn’t be surprised if those were the exact same pictures. If so, pretty impressive it took them this long to leak to the public.

Personally though, I still wish they hadn’t leaked :hmpf_bad:

Yes, you are absolutely right.
I was already wondering at the time where they got such detailed descriptions of the sets and why they didn't publish any pictures, but probably they weren't allowed to.
There may have been a press or fan channel preview at the time.
If you think about the time it takes for a LEGO set to go from idea to retail and add the Indiana Jones film delays, it's conceivable that the designs could or should have existed as early 2019.

Yeah, I wish there was a bit more flair behind revealing these too. But really, it’s one 18+ and two small-medium sets so I can understand why they aren’t making much of a fuss about it. On the plus side, I’m guessing we’ll get confirmation / a release date for the next wave too, just how the Way of Water sets for Avatar were teased when the first wave was revealed.

The selection of the contents of the sets already confused me a bit in 2008/2009. I associate Indiana Jones with adventure, puzzles, treasure, exotic locations and traps. The 2008/2009 sets were very military, contrary to LEGO ideology. That's why I found it a bit strange that there should only be a new edition of already known sets.

Also, I think Indiana Jones is probably less popular or unknown among today's youth than it was in the past.

In the last decade characters like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider or Nathan Drake from Uncharted were probably better known.

Maybe that's also the reason why the Indiana Jones fan community is really looking forward to the releases, but the topic isn't that popular in society as a whole and LEGO isn't making too much hype about it.

Bah, these whippersnapper would-be adventurers have nothing on Indy  I have no doubt DoD is going to do very well, so TLG should have a bit more faith in this theme

Yes, of course we as fans think so.
But unfortunately the question is, what Lego thinks.
Disney hasn't done anything with the Indiana JOnes license in the last 13 years

We'll see, let's be surprised.

The SmtthsToys teaser looks like Lego IP though.  I highly doubt that someone made it for Smyth's without Lego's approval because of effort/expense and risking IP issues with an obvious Lego minifigure image.  Not to mention the IP of Indy itself.   At the very least, that reference is to a Lego game.  And if Lego or a retailer went to the effort to create a custom teaser, I don't think whatever is coming is a release with no fanfare.

The anticipation is frustrating and fun, but it's almost over.  I've been told in another forum news comes March 1.

I think so too, which is why I said the teaser in the catalog is the only thing that really gives us hope.Insert other media
