Well HP has longevity because of the immense source material.Indy has four (soon to be five) movies and considering how only the first three are well liked with the fourth one being the one that everyone is trying to forget and the 5th being a mystery for the time being it makes the theme short lived.

As you said I if it goes beyond this year it will probably last 3 years max.If that's the case I hope they atleast remake the Temple Escape and maybe gives us some new set pieces like the Venice tomb scene.

Oh I agree that Indiana Jones doesn’t nearly have the source material that HP has. And in a couple years time, I think HP itself is going to struggle with that problem once they do Deathly Hallows sets and resort to remakes. But if Indiana Jones sticks to doing one set per film each year, I can definitely see them stretching it to three waves if not four more waves. And I personally prefer having small waves like that so I can collect them all. Not only could they do a bunch of remakes like Shanghai Chase or Venice, but they do the five Maguffins as well. Personally if I can get a Petra Temple and the Last Crusade Train, I’m a happy camper.

Yea a small wave with each set covering a different movie could prolong this theme's life. But in the end this depends on how well this years sets will sell and those price increases will definitely cause harm.

Yea I'm crossing my fingers for a Petra set as well,if it's D2C set even better since I think this theme works well for large scale location sets.

I see this Harry Potter discussion as extremely pointless. Don't those sets mostly cover the first four movie anyways? Indy will have five movies the coming year. More than enough for a theme, maybe not the biggest, but certainly good for a handful of sets a year.

Ideally they'll retire that Harry Potter (considering the extremely problematic issues surrounding a certain bigoted, old English lady) and replace it with Indiana Jones.

Those sets sound absolutely fantastic. Love how we're getting one set for each movie (assuming the biggest one is KoTCS). I do hope we get more beyond that.

The Lost Tomb sounds so good. Not only do I absolutely adore Raiders of The Lost Ark, but the value seems insane - 40€ for a 600 piece Tomb with four minifigures.

The others sound great too - a slightly smaller set with Jones Sr., and the Temple of Doom will be incredible. I remember having the original one, so nostalgia might do its work.

Great to hear that each Indiana Jones minifigure is different from the other, this will add a lot of variety.

It’s not extremely pointless at all, it’s a useful tool to seeing Indiana’s longevity as a theme. Indy and HP are both beloved licensed themes that were both prematurely ended and are now being rebooted with a new movie in the works. Indy 5 for Indy, FB for HP. Same strategy as well, some new sets for the new film and a couple of classics as well. The only difference and this is my biggest reason why I don’t think Indy won’t pass the three year threshold is that Indy is less popular than HP. Maybe I’ll be wrong, who knows for sure. And no, they’ve been sets from 7 of the 8 movies in the franchise.

And I’m not going to get into the whole JK Rowling thing since this is an Indy thread, but shutting down one of Lego’s best selling themes because of the author’s issues, a theme based on a world that has become more than its author due to the millions of fans around the globe is pretty boneheaded.

Not while she's actively profiting of it.

But yeah, let's not get into that. Especially not with a fanboy.

I really hope the opening to Raiders gets a set as well. The fertility idol is stupid-expensive on the aftermarket.

I don't think it could be fully evergreen, but I could see it in a state similar to the DC theme right now, where a couple sets release every year.

Regardless of what happens, I'll be content with the sets we do know are coming.

Look, I'm not going to jump into the overall discussion around what Jk Rowling said, but as someone who is just a casual enjoyer of the harry potter books, I'll say this:

Not only is it absolutely ridiculous to suggest that a toy line should be cancelled because you don't like one of the people who gets royalties from it, but there's no logical bearing whatsoever to bring up your hatred of jk rowling into a lego indiana jones thread. Harry Potter and Indiana Jones can both have lego sets releasing at the same time...because they did in the past.

I think the longevity of this relaunch depends on if they do anything else with this property after Indy 5. It’ll probably be the final movie, but we do know there’s going to be a new video game at least. I could see them doing some sort of animated show or a live-action one similar to the Young Indy Chronicles. Something like that could help justify the theme’s continuation.

As it stands, I think if they continued doing about eight or so sets a year, they’d have enough material to keep going for a few more years at least.

I‘m also very happy about that. The 2008 sets all used the exact same minifig and only the 2009 ones gave us a bit of variety.

Excited to see what else they modernised! There have been so many changes in the meantime the revamped theme can now benefit from. Dual-moulded parts (already confirmed), a unified minifig design, new colours, new bricks, new elements, new building techniques!

I was so in love with my Temple of Doom ripped shirt Indiana Jones lol. That was like the coolest minifigure I thought I had as a child

Interesting choices for a first wave. The plane chase from Last Crusade definitely seems like an odd choice. I'm a little surprised at Temple of Doom as well, given how much criticism that film has drawn over the years for religious/cultural stereotyping. Still, any new sets are great news to me. These will all be day one purchases, I've waited over a decade for the theme to finally return.

As for longevity, it really does come down to where the franchise goes after this. In its current state, it's obviously nowhere near as popular as Lego's other licenses (SW, HP, Marvel, etc.) but we don't know what is in the works outside of the fifth movie and the Bethesda game. Maybe Disney wants this to be a "Force Awakens" style revamp of the brand, or maybe this is just a last hurrah for Ford's sake. Time will tell.

I was always irrationally sure that my Yavin Ceremony Luke was extremely rare and very cool. I maintain how cool it is.

Temple of Doom is iconic. The odd-numbered Indiana Jones films tend to be better, but I thought the second one was fine and the actual temple of doom set was a bestseller IIRC.

It's certainly Ford's last spin, but I remember rumors about this film setting up a successor to the mantle. Either way, it'll definately make the films relevant again. And I think they really are good movies, good enough that with the right push, they might be able to reignite love for the franchise in a new generation. Maybe they should do an animated series.

Her bigotry was a real disappointment to discover. But I don't think Indian Jones fulfills the same niche as Harry potter, it's a very different franchise.

What I’m also hoping for is more variety in terms of facial expressions. Thanks to the new hat-hair piece that should cover the back of the head, we can finally have alternate ones! Also, this time they should make a distinction between young and old Indy

Seeing how much attention they pay to scene-specific costumes/outfits nowadays (see HP), this revival will be a slam dunk!

Han Solo has reddish brown hair, I'm interested to see if Indy will have the same considering his hat from the 2008 sets was the same colour. Surely one will be different!

Something that IJ and HP have in common that makes them perfect Lego themes in the good mix of vehicles and locations. Star Wars is very vehicle heavy, POTC has loads of ships and LOTR has a few horse drawn things and not much else. IJ and HP have a really good mix.

I haven't seen the films in years, probably not since the last sets came out, but I remember being disappointed by the lack of Last Crusade sets. I seem to remember there was a big scene with a tank? I'm not sure Lego would go for a real world tank, we got some in SW but they're a bit spacey.

Looking back over the 2008-9 sets, it's striking how dull the colour palate is for most of the Kingdom sets, the Russian vehicles in particular. Really looking forward to the temple set which is the only one I'm certain to get, I'll have a rewatch of the films before they come out though to see if the others are of interest.

It won't be the same as the hat is dual-moulded, which means they have to be different colours.

My guess would be that the hat will be reddish brown (with a dark brown band), while the hair will be medium nougat or dark tan.

I'm very excited about the news but I wonder how reliable the overall set informations are, given the prices sound far too reasonable for a licensed theme in the first place and in light of the current "price adjustments".

Promobricks is very reliable.

The descriptions are perfectly accurate. Promobricks has been doing this for years, and they always nail every set description. Same goes for set numbers, the number of sets, number of pieces in each set etc.

As for the prices, they noted that they could change. Just like Avatar set prices — we knew those prices for months, but recently they've increased by about 5–10€ each. Same could happen to those sets. It's only theoretical tho.

So instead of 35€, 40€, 80€, and 150€, it could end up being 40€, 50€, 90€, and 160€. But that's only speculation for now.

I know Promobricks is very reliable and they make perfect sketches of the finished sets for instance, but still I was wondering...

As I remember, they usually post € and not $ prices, and secondly 40, 50 or even 60€ for a ca. 600 pieces licensed set just sounds too good to be true. Perhaps someone (not at Promobricks !) is putting wrong info out on purpose, so it's not obvious where the leaked desriptions are coming from? Maybe it sounds too complicated and if so I'm more than happy that prices seem to return to a more reasonable level.

As for 77015 it'll be hilarious if the most the most expensive set ends up being based on the least popular movie

Haha, yeah, I think they will want to make the first four sets to be one from each of the first four movies.  Sure, KOTCS wasn't the best, but if they do a huge Mesoamerican/Andean style temple for $150, it will be definitely be an eye-popping set purely on it's own merits, regardless of the movie!

We should also get the Ugha Warriors in a more accurate flesh-tone, and Russian soldiers wearing olive green now, instead of the sand green.  Plus it's a clever way to nudge/force everyone to go ahead and buy a KOTCS set, because there will only be a few other sets to fill your craving at that time...

After that, they will probably announce a huge D2C set of the Hovitos Fertility Temple in Peru from ROTLA for $200+

Then the sets for Part V will likely include flesh-toned Roman soldiers, with movie-detailed armor...  Plus more WWII villains!

I am on board!  =)
