Kit Figsto Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Oh, to be clear, my "rebooted" comments were in reference to the LEGO theme itself, not the franchise. Since this will almost assuredly be the final movie, unless they were to do a TV show or something based on the franchise (without re-casting Indy), I cannot see LEGO ever bringing this theme back after this iteration of it. It's possible that we get some 18+ or D2C type sets down the line, as they've done that before with TV shows/movies that aren't actively in production (the two Friends sets, for example, were based off of a TV show that ended fifteen years ago). But, every other time we've gotten a full licensed theme from one specific franchise, there's either movies or TV shows that are actively being produced for that property, at least at the time they start the theme. Basically, point being that if they don't continue this theme beyond this year, I feel like this would be it for LEGO Indy, other than possible D2Cs or something. It's possible that if we got a TV show or spin-off down the line, they could do what they've done with Jurassic Park/World, where most of the sets are based off of the new films, but there are a few based off of the original, but I feel like we can't bank on that happening, since it requires new material coming out from IJ. Hmmm, yeah, they *were* planning on doing a streaming series, with a new person "taking up the mantle", but now maybe that's been put on indefinite hold, waiting to see how the movie does...? So do we get pictures of the sets soon, or will they stay hidden until mid-March? These sets have obviously been produced and stuck in a "top secret warehouse" gathering dust, ironic, huh?! =D Edited January 3, 2023 by The Real Indiana Jones Quote
Kaijumeister Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) I can’t see Indy being an evergreen theme and lasting the way it did during the 2008-2009 period. A handful of strongly designed sets covering the older films and another wave for DoD seems pretty sufficient, even if ideally there’s so much that can be covered if the theme gets another couple of waves. A Grail Temple set would be my white whale for sure. @The Real Indiana Jones Given that sites like Promobricks have already given some pretty detailed descriptions and the sets themselves have been ready to go for a while, the pictures are definitely out there. With an April release, I’m assuming official reveals will be in March. However with Lego’s ‘hold off on reveals until the very last minute and then get surprised when they leak out’ approach, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see pictures in February. Having reread the original Promobricks article I now wonder (again), is it possible we get the Dial of Destiny sets with those from the Original Trilogy? Three relatively small system scale models and one 18+ set seems awfully scarce for a single set wave. There are another four set numbers assigned for what I presume is the DoD wave, and a more substantial wave of 7 system scale sets makes a lot of sense. Not to mention that getting tie-in toys 2 months before a film debut is quite reasonable and very much in line with Lego’s release pattern for most of their film tie-ins. Also, given that Indy is a Lucasfilm property, it begs the question of whether we’ll be getting weekly merchandise reveals the way Star Wars has had with the films and TV shows. That’d be pretty cool. Edited January 4, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote

Ah, wow, cool, have some photos of the 2023 sets leaked already? Where? Or what keywords to search for? So far, I'm just seeing reposts of the same original sets from 14 years ago... And yes, I think the plan was to do 4 remake sets from all the previous movies, quickly followed up by 4 new sets from the new film... Is that still correct? I've been out of the loop! =) Edited January 4, 2023 by The Real Indiana Jones Quote

And yep, that was always the plan to have some sets from the original films followed by 4 from DoD. I’m just speculating that instead of being two separate waves, they could just be amalgamated into a single wave in April. It’s a unique situation to mix toys from a new film and older films in a single wave, and really I’m only bringing it up because three system sets and an 18+ set seems like a really small lineup for the return of this theme. Oh, this is normal... In 2008, they did four sets for the original Indy trilogy, plus four sets for the new film, and then an extra set (Peril in Peru) popped up as a surprise. And these two waves were slated to be 90% overlapping in duration anyway, so if they are 100% overlapping, then that is fine. Simply put, if the movie does well, and if the sets sell well, they will do more! I just want to see leaked photos at this point...! =) Quote
Jack Sassy Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I can't remember, do we know approximate release date for the other wave of Indy sets (presumably meant for Dial of Destiny)? Quote

Hmm, Dial of Destiny comes out on June 30th, so the sets for it should be on shelves on May 1st or June 1st... a month or two after the sets for the previous movies? Quote

Sorry if I’ve been out of the loop, but has this been mentioned by any of the usual sources? Or do you mean June 1st makes the most sense because that’s the month the film will release? Also, I can’t wait to see if we get any new minifigure moulds for this theme beyond Indy’s hair/hat combo. Henry Sr. absolutely needs a new hat piece (unless something similar already exists?), and I can see Sallah maybe getting a new turban mould. No doubt the Temple of Doom set will also get a few new pieces. Also have my fingers crossed that we get a Grail Diary in the smallest set, maybe with a 1x2 tile inside to represent the map to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon. Quote

Legoman123 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I think Lego will be missing a trick if they do not do at least one more wave of sets. Potentially with a December 2023 release would be perfect. Maybe another three sets from each movie, for me I think we need to see KOTCS sets and defiantly a TLC set based on the Holy Grail. Quote

There is a rumour Mangold and Disney are working on a Indy spin off based on Abner Ravenwood, there is the new videogame coming which won't release this year and an animated series would help the theme stay relevant too. Jurassic Park is getting sets this year, maybe there is hope for Indy if it sells. The sets need to be bangers too. I'm sure if we are to get a KOTCS set it will be the temple as it is the most stand out part of the movie. Maybe a D2C later on in the year? I am under the impression that the Diorama is not a D2C.
