Whovastron Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I’m surprised at the meh response here. I think they look great. I never had the original fighter plane or temple of doom, but did have the lost temple. That one is for sure the weakest, but there’s some good individual builds, can definitely see myself MOC-ing some scenery. love the plane chase, just looks fun. temple of doom looks great, a good mix of display and play. Lots of wonderful figures and details. Cannot wait for that one. makes me hyped for the 18+ set. I really hope this theme continues for at-least another ‘classic’ wave. I really, really, really want a ‘race for the stolen treasure’ redo. I recently rebuilt my original, and it’s one of my favourite sets ever, and for a 2008 set, it still holds up structurally even 15 years later. Quote

Would be foolish to have two vehicles with only stud shooter feature. Looking at the leaked picture it seems incredibly likely. The wings get thicker on the top and bottom where they meet with the body, (basically confirming they connect via pins or axles), which would be an unnecessary overcomplication if they didn't detach. The scene where the wingless plane slides through the tunnel is the funniest scene in the entire franchise to me, so hopefully they included that feature again! 2 minutes ago, Retro Brick Reviews said: Looking at the leaked picture it seems incredibly likely. Yperio_Bricks Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 On the right of the box, between the car and the edge of the photo, is there some kind of wedge plate or plate that holds the traffic sign? Or is that box art? Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Overall very underwhelming sets but it is to be expected after all this is a modern licensed theme which usually means disappointing builds with detailed minifigures. Hopefully the the next wave will be better but I doubt it since sets based on concept art of an upcoming film usually means that alot will be left to be desired. Moon_Knight Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I agree with the overall opinions on the leaked images. I think the quality of the images really prevents me from having a final opinion. But here are a few thoughts so far. I too don’t care for the new headpiece mold with the hair. I much prefer the old Indy minifig but once again the quality of the images makes me hesitant to really say the old one is better. Gotta wait until clearer images are released. Can’t wait to finally get a Sallah minifig and he looks great! I’ll probably buy all the sets because I’m a sucker but I can’t say I’m gonna be super bugged if they’re not great. I was one of the lucky few that grabbed all the original sets and I think they still hold up really well. I do have to say the temple escape set I’m mostly looking forward to. I hope it looks great and can’t wait to see images. Quote
TeriXeri Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I like the idea of the Tomb set, but need to see more about the pieces and how the decorations are done for the back wall , if anything, could be a pseudo-adventurers parts-pack type of set. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Am I the only one hoping for some BrickHeadz in the summer? Indy is the only theme I‘m collecting (besides Mario) that hasn‘t gotten the BrickHeadz treatment yet Edited February 5, 2023 by BrickBob Studpants Quote
Brickity Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Shocking to see the not-so-welcoming reception of these so far, and it’s not that I don’t agree, but at this day and age one would surely expect the opposite from LEGO, specially from a re-release as important as this one. I personally reeally like them and will (likely) get them all, but I will hop on and say they definitely don’t evoke the same feeling the ones from 2008 did, there’s just not much going on. Perhaps they’ve sacrificed play features and details which aren’t obvious at first sight, for the overall aesthetic; or they upped the piece count (which isn’t bad, clearly) for a more a more put-together, enclosed, accurate look, but sacrificing size and play features. When the minifigures come out in high-res though, I will NOT hold back my judgement. These better not have low effort squished faces. Edited February 5, 2023 by Otherworld Quote
azog Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I'm actually surprised that people aren't liking these sets! These are exactly if not better than I imagined. I grew up on Indiana Jones (because I was only a kid when the original sets and video game came out) and I absolutly love these. The Fighter Plane Chase is a perfect recreation of that iconic scene, and I'm actually surprised they fighter plane looks as realistic as it does! I was expecting something terrible like the fighter plan from the Wonder Women set. Escape from the Lost Tomb looks so much more realistic than the previous model and with some simple mods it could be perfect. The Temple of Doom is also so much better than the original set and I'm glad they kept some of the minecart detail. This has always been a dream set for me. I personally love this wave and I can't wait to purchase all of them! Quote
strangely Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 The Fighter Plane Chase seems like a pretty decent set for the price. I do agree about the pith helmet, it was not the right choice, but I can live with it. Otherwise it's pretty perfect. The Lost Tomb I feel mixed on. I had the original and really loved the design of that one. The new one seems to be more accurate to how it appears to the movie and is more closer in scale, so that's a positive. However it does feel a bit empty and incomplete. I think the lack of ceiling beams like the original set makes it feel a bit more incomplete to me. It'll be interesting to see what's behind the wall this time around. This will be the main set I'm after at this point and will probably be a day one purchase for me. The Temple of Doom is a complete miss for me. The roller coaster parts just don't work for me, it makes it look less like minecarts and more like a ride at Disneyland. Too, the carts being solidly attached to the track kind of works against the scene it's trying to depict (where being derailed is part of the danger). Then the track just isn't that long, nor is it as tall as the original (the lack of height really undermines the design to me). The design of the shrine is not that great either. Credit where credit is due, the skull looks a lot better and is closer to the movie, they also managed to get a couple of the columns and some of the wall too, whereas the old set didn't bother attempting it at all. But the statue design is way off (not sure what's up with the coloring, the gold really doesn't make sense here). The platform is strange too. They depict the platform as just a flat area on top of a bunch of big rock pieces whereas the entire area was chiseled stone in the movie and overall it seems like they're still leaning into the cave aesthetic rather than the actual temple bits. It looks like the cage is missing again, which is made weirder by the fact that the hands that hold the chains in the movie are actually present this time around. More pictures might help improve my opinion on this set, especially since the shrine obscures a large section, but right now it's the weakest of the sets to me and I'll definitely wait for a sale. The minifigures all across the board are great and whether or not I get every set I'll definitely Bricklink the minifigures. Quote
PGBQW Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) While I don't like the Raiders set and I don't particularly care about the Temple of Doom one (it looks pretty cool, but I disliked that movie), I really love the Last Crusade set. Sure, the airplane is alright, but the car looks extremely sick. I'm so happy the best Indiana Jones movie got the best set. Do you think the Raiders of the lost ark will have any easter egg in the hieroglyphics like the original one? Edited February 6, 2023 by PGBQW Quote

Do you think the Raiders of the lost ark will have any easter egg in the hieroglyphics like the original one? More or less same here, though I think the Raiders set is interesting and further images are needed for me to get an idea of it's quality. That last crusade set looks AWESOME, and I'm definately picking it up. It's also good to note that we are getting a military plane and nazi pilot in the set (Though I'm sure he won't be named as such), which does open up set possibilities to at least the 08/09 levels. A friend of mine is hoping for the last crusade convoy (sans the tank of course) and I'm inclined to also hope for that (or, you know, a second wave of legacy sets in general. Even if the fifth film is excellent, the original trilogy's going to hold the largest place in my heart.) Quote

Oh gee, I didn't even notice that! The new Rollercoaster track is still compatible with the old minecart wheels, I don't get why they wouldn't use them here. Quote

Huh, so if you ask ChatGPT or Dall-E to design a Lego MOC or a Lego leak, can it do this decent a job? Can we make an entire thread for "MOCs Designed by AI"? Just for a giggle? Or are Lego Designer's jobs in jeopardy of being replaced by a robot? Are we there yet? Plus, to me, it looks more Polynesian than Andean, or anything from the movie, but Lego loves tiki faces, and they do that sometimes... Edited February 6, 2023 by The Real Indiana Jones Quote

Looks real to me But come on people, those algorithms are not (yet) able to replicate highly complex building techniques! The only AI-generated LEGO models that would even be slightly believable would have to be mosaics. We would see soooooo many artifacts it wouldn‘t even be funny! Additional fingers would be the least of their problems Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Hard to judge a set by a picture like this, but from what I can tell, that's just too much going on. That's why I was afraid of that piece count. Man, I really wanted to like this wave... Quote

Portal Out Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) I’ve been staring at this garbled mess for 10 minutes straight and I genuinely cannot tell if it’s real or not. Like there are a bunch of areas that seriously hurt my brain to look at, it has all the telltale signs of an AI generated image, and some parts don’t even look like Lego. Not to mention how bizarre and inaccurate the color choices and layout are for an 18+ display set. But at the same time, this matches the description EXACTLY and there are techniques that I don’t think an AI could come up with. I also noticed that the figs are placeholders, which I don’t think an AI would pick up on, but would make sense if this pic was snapped really quickly at an in person event like a toy show or a fan media day (there’s even a little plaque with renders of the figs next to the model in that case). I’m not even gonna try to make a final guess, if I look at this image much longer I’m afraid I might have a stroke. Edited February 6, 2023 by Portal Out Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yeah, something weird definitely happened to this image... look at the straps — the details change with every one. It's almost like two pictures merged into one. I really have no idea if it's real or not. Honestly, all the recent leaks just totally scrambled up my senses This is a Schrodinger's leak. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 The picture is indeed mangled, but this cannot be the result of AI. The details are still way too specific, like Belloq‘s hat, the idol, or the wall decorations Hoping for some decent images soon! Quote
strangely Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I'm starting to think it's real. It has white figures in the set, so it's probably a preliminary shot. It's possible that the weird distortions are the result of someone trying to get rid of a watermark. Quote
