If they were taken at the fair, wouldn’t it have made more sense to take pictures of the sets on display rather than the boxart? They did not leak from Nuremberg Only 3 sets were shown off at Nuremberg too and the Temple of Doom wasn’t one of them Quote
DrHenryJonesJr Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) I just did some brainstorming and recap: one thing's for sure, Promobricks must have had a look at the first three sets last summer, either in digital draft or in pictures, I even think it's possible that the leaked pictures originally could come from there. Whoever finally leaked them a few weeks ago. Promobricks described in this article back in July 2022 in great detail and exactly how the new sets and the new minifigures will look like, going into the construction, the stud width and things that you can only know if you get exact descriptions or good ones gets pictures. Now we know that the sets looks exactly like that At that time there was even a live stream from Promobricks, in which questions could be asked via chat. Here, a viewer asked for a small detail, which was checked briefly and the question was then answered. Which means the sets or set designs must have existed back then, which makes sense given the unexpected film postponements, at least based on Harrison Ford's subsequent injury, and the marvel film backlog after lockdowns ended. The decision to cancel ToD, insofar as this should really exist at all, must have been made afterwards, otherwise the preview image would not have been made available. At this point, Promobricks was already able to provide information on DoD set numbers, so it may not have been the plan to cancel them until then. An other question: Would it actually be conceivable that LEGO will announce Indiana Jones in early April? "Starting in June and exclusively from April at SmythsToys" and some other retailers? Would that fit into a LEGO scheme? If so, would it be quite normal that there hasn't been an announcement yet? Edited March 9, 2023 by DrHenryJonesJr Quote

Retro Brick Reviews Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) Just2Good managed to buy the Lost Tomb and apparently it was only $40. Not sure what this means for the official price, but it's clear there's very little communication between LEGO and retailers regarding these sets. I'm probably going to dip from the forum until we get a reveal or more concrete information (for better or worse). LEGO's really bungled this lineup and release, and discussing it is just killing my excitement for the few sets we are getting. At the very least, one way or another we should know by the end of next week what's happening with this theme, be it with an announcement, a shadowdrop, or LEGO just canceling the theme outright and keying @BrickBob Studpants's car for good measure. At least we'll know. Edited March 9, 2023 by Retro Brick Reviews Quote

Yeah, I sometimes feel the same way. Then I remember how excellent the three sets are And then I remember that we can’t hope for more sets in 2024 if this all the output we’re getting this year. In essence, I’ve never felt so ambivalent about a theme before. It’s just weird. Edited March 9, 2023 by BrickBob Studpants Quote
RichardGoring Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Watched the review. If it's $40, that definitely feels like good value. I rather like it. Above $40 and it quickly gets less appealing. But far, far better than the original leaked box art suggested it would be. Quote

This whole situation is so aggravating. I feel like lego's best move would have been announcing the sets around the time the temple of doom news came out, or AT LEAST when that one guy got ahold of and reviewed the three sets. Quote
FrightFlight Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 So are these sets spilling out into some stores now? Should we start keeping an eye out on shelves? Quote

If LEGO doesn't officially announce anything by the end of next week, at the latest by the end of April, I would buy what I can ASAP. While I'm not usually a fan of buying products at RRP at launch, as uncertain as the situation is, I'd rather do that than finding the few copies around 2000 EUR or $2000 from scalpers on Ebay Quote
Kit Figsto Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 So, I watched the just2good review of the set, a couple of observations - - I feel like the Indy face looks a lot better than I initially thought, I think it's more accurate than it's been getting credit for, and I really like the figure with the new hat. - It fully did not register with me that Marion's legs are dual molded. I saw that the dress only went partway down her legs (which looks better than the original figure having the white legs), but I guess I just assumed that was a print and not a full dual mold. I think this set has the strongest minifigure lineup of the entire wave. Marion is a definite improvement over the original, Sallah was overdue, and Indy looks good overall. - I noticed that just2good showed the instruction manual, which I hadn't seen before. The front cover just shows the set on a white background. Now, I haven't purchased any 2023 sets yet, so I don't know if that's something that other themes are doing too, but that struck me as very odd, since generally it shows the model on a background either similar to the box art, or something to do with the set. The only time I've seen it on a blank background are UCS sets with a black background that matches the box art. I wonder if this meant that there were original instructions that had some previews in the back (maybe with ToD?) that had to be pulled and replaced last minute, hence the less-than-colorful artwork? The LEGO instructions are actually so "simple" now, got 6 copies of the 11030 delivered yesterday, the instructions were the same here too, I think they started changing most of the instructions to this style last summer or autumn Quote

Legofan2001 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I love the fact that it’s March 10th now and Lego has STILL not revealed or even hinted at the Return of Indiana Jones. Really shows how little they care about Indy 😔 Quote

They only change their plans, if at all, if there is a corresponding media or political response to a topic that polarizes. From LEGO's point of view, the "small" number of forum members who have been desperately looking for answers for weeks will not interest LEGO, if they even notice. The media response from the fan channels to the sets is without exception positive, so why should they comment a little earlier than planned. Since LEGO announces every series in some form at some time, they certainly will at some point, just presumably when it suits their schedule. This can be March, April or May. Since an exclusive sale is planned from April, April would be obvious, but that is not 100% confirmed and may have changed. Maybe they are really planning something bigger and wanted to let Mario Day pass first, you don't know. I hope for next week. Quote

They also change their plans on a whim, or because their beautifully crafted theme that had countless hours and money ploughed into it turned out to be a poor seller. There have also been topics that polarize that have received no reaction other than to reinforce their choices. Quote

The Stud Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Apparently fans are taking the “501st approach” by commenting on Lego’s Instagram posts about revealing the Indy sets and releasing the Temple of the Doom. I don’t know if it will really accomplish anything this time around, but kudos to them. It gives me a good chuckle at the very least. (Though like with the 501st situation, I’m sure a few people will take issue with this and complain about others “harassing” a multibillion dollar brand’s social media page.) Quote
