Here's a version of my 4-speed sequential RC transmission with a reverse instead of the 4th gear, and with free instructions which include the mechanical stepper and the way of connecting motors:

Instructions can be downloaded, as usual, here: http://sariel.pl/downloads/

Nice, thanks for sharing! Seems to be robust, and easy to adapt to the build. I have not yet tried to make a RC car with transmission, I think I am going to try with this one :classic:

[0:57] Can shift while running, no need to stop

Hmmm so while I'm speeding with my RC vehicle I can just shift to reverse gear? Looking forward to trying that! :pir-grin:

The reverse was really fun for me. I had a three wheeled motorbike as in one of the 888x idea book. I was installed a 8700 motor to it, drove it back then immediately forward, hurrah,  I had two wheeled motorbike. It could have gone like half a meter then drop the front wheel. It was my ultimate fun those days.

So here's another take on this transmission design, but this time with an added mechanism that allows to drive and shift it using just a single motor:

How does it behave under load? I would be afraid, that the mechanism where you change the function can not handle load.

Depends on the load. You can do some adjustments playing with the ratio of gears on the ratchet, but if there's too much load, the ratchet won't mesh with the "receivers".
