Yelana picks up the journal once she is on the shuttle, BTW.

Just a quick note before I sleep, but Yelana can’t pick up the journal in the shuttle because she shouldn’t know it exists until Soren gives it to Irgonstead.

"The Space Police is involved? What did you tell them? Blackguard was a hedge of the bet, they weren't supposed to get involved unless the source itself was in jeopardy."

"That's not what it seemed like - With their drone already on the train and our tickets taken before we arrived, I think we were the 'hedge'.

Irgonstead gave out a deep sigh. "So if you had the source, how did you manage to lose it?"

"I already told you - When you send two teams after the same target, and you don't coordinate in any way, they fight. Fighting, as well as excessive use of breaching charges, draws attention - And when all this is happening on a train full of rich asshoIes on their way to corporate central, SP gets called in to protect their interests.

Irgonstead, slides it under the file out of Yelana's reach.

"Irgonstead's all you need to know."

Yelana snaps her hand back.
"And why's that?

I misread the post, and thought that the conference room was on the shuttle! 😬

"Would you believe me if I told you that when Blackguard arrived to take the cube they blew a hole in the engineering car of the train?" Zaria exclaimed. Her hands hit the table with a loud thud. "Once the Space Police got involved after an explosive was set off on the train there was no way that cube was getting out of there, not with that much attention on it. If you are looking for someone to point a finger at for this nearly botched job, level it at them.

You need not worry. We did not bring your company up during the discussions with the Space Police."

"I gave Blackguard my instructions, I can't speak to the method they used for carrying them out. Besides I would have figured you lot were capable enough of sneaking around Space Police."

"I don't see a reason for you to know and given your attitude, I'm rather irritated about paying you as well for the work you did manage."

"Well at least you covered that." The Stratitarian sighs once more, "This is quite the mess, it'll take weeks to sort through, but you lot did your part. 50 Credits I believe are in order, no?"

I recall you tellin' us that gettin' the cube was a second'ry objective. I ain't about to risk lockup for a thing like that, nevermind an investigation that could trace back to you. I'm liable to think we should be gettin' extra for still coming back to you with somethin' despite Blackguard's interfer'nce, 'specially with how much you're payin' them just so they could sell you short.

“If you are furious with them then I am equally outraged, if not more so. Handling the Space Police would’ve been manageable under the circumstances prior to a rocket being fired at the train.” Zaria cursed under her breath in her native language, crossing her arms and glaring at the documents the party had handed over. This all felt off to her. She was all to used to violence, but thievery left her with a feeling of conflict within her.

“I am fine taking the 50 credits and leaving, but if you, Soren, wish to negotiate, be my guest. Irgonstead, I hope in the future you come to Heroica for assistance. Unlike Blackguard, I can assure you we will not blow holes into the sides of trains when discrepancy is preferred.”

MM Note: If you want extra, that'll be Proficiency Check depending on your action/words.

Soren carefully eyes Irgonstead from behind his sunglasses, trying to gain insight as to how likely their employer is to be coerced into raising their pay.

Soren Insight Proficiency (DC 3) - (4,1,6,5) 3 Successes

Soren figures they might have a shot diplomatically, but any deceptive or aggressive approaches may do more harm than good.

Soren leaned further back in his seat, weighing options.

Look, I'm content enough with the 50. But you seem like a reasonable businessman, and business 's all about investments. You were prepped and ready to invest 10 Grand into Blackguard, and they failed you. Not only did they fail you, they also screwed us, and thereby lost your power source, nearly destroying a train in the process. 'Sounds to me like you might want to cut ties with them and invest in Heroica instead. We've already proven more successful than them. Consider this a down payment. You pay us well, we put in a good word to future heroes, and you get better jobs down the line. Everyone wins, y'know?

"I suppose a 25 credit increase, could be arranged."

Yelana crossed her arms.
"I'd argue for full payment - We had the cube, and Soren almost got killed protecting it; we just couldn't get it off the train with the SPs swarming around every few minutes. Not to mention you deliberately withheld critical information. . .

Soren held up a hand.

I wouldn't argue with your employer. It tends not to go well.

The extra 25 will be jus' fine

Yelana looked at 'Irgonstead', then at Soren.
"I'm not arguing, and I'm surprised that after almost bleeding to death, you'll be satisfied with just a 25 Cred increase.

I jus' know when to cash out, is all.

I was going to edit this into my previous post, but you replied before I had the chance.

In full transparency, I'm mostly trying to help wrap things up at this point. Soren gave a pitch, and Irgonstead conceded - we know through Soren's insight check that he's not likely to cave to strongarming, so trying to argue for a full refund probably won't work.

Moreover, after waiting a full day for a reply, I'm really just not interested in debating this one out. We're right at the finish line, 25 credits will be fine.

This is part of Yelana's PM action, so I think that it would be a Deception check, not Intimidation. 🤔

MM Note: The public action is a strong arm argument (intimidation), the private action would be persuasion but the effects are mooted by the public action.

Ah - I was under the impression that they were being considered as essentially the same (multi-step) action, not as separate actions. 😐

Naturally, Irgonstead. We'll take the 25. No further questions from us.
