jonwil Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) The bellhop looks to me like its the same torso as in set 60200 Capital City. Edited August 2, 2022 by jonwil Quote

TeriXeri Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) I really hope that foal is a sign for more Horse-themed set in City maybe next year, since the last horse trailer had horse jumping bars, and City has been going a bit more Town like in terms of sets like schools and stores, a horse-jumping location doesn't sound all that weird anymore. Long before Paradisa, there was 6379: Riding Stable Edited August 2, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote
jonwil Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Better pictures of the Advent Calendar are up on Brickset. Other than the foal, I can't see anything that looks to be new/exclusive although I could be wrong. Quote

Friends does have forest subtheme. Quote

Lion King Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I kinda hope we will get City-infied giraffe next year. Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) So guys! I have bad news. Remember that rumor about Lego flipping the kill switch on the school day set from City? Well.....Sadly that rumor is true. When I went to the Lego store to pick up my supermarket, I got confirmation from a worker there that they're discontinuing it early due to lack of sales. Matter of fact, the last four that were in that store were on the discount table. So with that being said, if you have plans to get that set, there is no time like the present to head to a Lego store or any of your local department stores that may have it and snag while you can. Ouch! Sales numbers must've been really terrible on that set. It's not even the end of the year yet and they're already making plans to throw that one into the lions den. Remember that rumor about Lego flipping the kill switch on the school day set from City? Well.....Sadly that rumor is true. Well, looks like those end dates of 31 december 2022 (or likely before when sold out) might be correct then for many 2022 City sets on brickset. So far that includes school, lifeguard station , picnic in the park, supermarket, farmer van, and chicken coop, stunt plane, touring stunt bike , 4+ fire helicopter. Source https://brickset.com/sets/year-2022/theme-City sort by retirement date. Most 2021 sets as well, exception seem to be Tractor, Camper Van , and Road Plates And there are still some remaining 2020 sets, also retiring : Ice Cream truck (not the 2022 chase one), Helicopter Chase (magnet helicopter), Passenger Airplane, Ocean Exploration Base (great set with a surprisingly long run) Overall that means a LOT of sets are going away at the same time, so there's a lot of room for new things. OK!!!!! I'm not sexist. But I think a lot of those sets were made to get girls into the theme. Think about it, which gender would more than likely play with a school, town home (which looked more like a condo) or supermarket before they play with a police station, fire station or a train (I would've said hospital - but that feels more unisex targeted)? Once again, I'm not sexist. But that's just something to think about. Edited August 5, 2022 by Poodabricks Quote

I don't think that's sexist as even LEGO had an article about aiming of removing gender bias / stereotypes in 2021. An example would be , this year the Cargo train got a female driver, which was typically one of those minifig areas with mainly male figs before. Edited August 5, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote

I never viewed City as catering to one gender though. When I said what I said, I was also talking about the town planning sets such as a doughnut shop and the capital. Then there was the female battalion from the 2019 fire station. I've always seen Lego's town set division as being the only one to cater to a unisex crowd. From the 90s to the present day, there was female presence. Especially in the Paradisa theme. Speaking of Paradisa. I wish they'd bring that one back. I'll speak more on that on this page. Quote
Lion King Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 How about Frineds with minifigures and standard animals? And make City a theme with minidolls and pretty aniamls? Sorry I was just sarcastic. But I do think Freinds AND City with minifigures sounds nice for both boys and girls. Quote
brimbolet Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I really don't think those sets were specifically targeted at girls. Girls usually want different toys than boys and vice-versa, even though they can play perfectly with the other ones toy. That's why Friends is so successful to begin with. Lego wanted to give us a new City experience, an expandable town, new road pieces etc. But unfortunately many of these sets are badly designed: a bus with no doors, a school with no roof and wall. Come on... the best thing was probably the grey squirrel and the minifigs... I really hope City will dramatically improve next year. Quote

I don’t understand why the school has no roof.i’moot really a fan of 4+ sets but there are some great parts like corn on cog, artificial leg, animal molds, etc. I think road plates are great too. Well, i’m so glad I didn’t buy that School Day set - I consider it as a worst City set of 2022. I preer school bus as a Great Vehicle set instead of being included in the school building set. Designers make a mistake for sure. Quote
TeriXeri Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Personally I think worst value 2022 City set is the Stuntz Double Loop. That set is will be €150 (after september) / $160 , even when considering 2 big loops made out of special parts, the vehicle build just is quite boring. The loops do work, jang has reviewed the smaller (€55 / $70) set, that's not even the issue. For a ramp or monster truck, one of the 2021 sets alongside the single loop set just offers more value. Also in Europe at least, the passenger train even at €10 more (after september) seems a much better value as well. But when it comes to regional pricing, those €20 stuntz set being $35 in USA is quite ridiculous, and % wise the worst regional price difference, and then second come some others like the farm/farmvan/chimp loop. Of course there's a difference between worst set and worst value, to me it's hard to seperate the 2 , but even then I think the 4+ cement mixer offers more relative then a double loop of 7x the price. This is before discounts are taken in consideration. Edited August 6, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote
TeriXeri Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) 1 week into august now , I doubt there will be anymore new City sets for this year (not counting Advent Calendar) While Main Square was revealed mid-august in 2020 (but discovered in a LEGO store before that), that was before the Road Plate era, I think there will be a replacement type of Roads+Buildings set for Town Centre instead in January. I assume some more locations with or without roads will be added as 1-2 yearly sets : Excluding Police/Fire/Medical sets, and subthemes, there were : 2021 (1 year): Skate Park 2022 (1 year): Picnic in the Park Beach Lifeguard Station School Day 2021+2022 (2 year): Family House Town Centre Shopping Street (altho retirement date on brickset says 2021, it's still sold on European LEGO.com) Edited August 7, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote
brimbolet Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 1 hour ago, TeriXeri said: I assume some more locations with or without roads will be added as 1-2 yearly sets : Well, it certainly would be nice, but I'm slowly starting to wonder if the whole concept has proven successful enough for Lego to continue. The road plates increased the prices for the sets (sometimes unnecessary), and left the buildings quite simple to put it mildly. The grocery store, one of the better designed sets for instance, feels rather cramped and would be better with a roof instead of a small parking lot. 6wide cars don't fit there anyhow. And it cost the same as the bigger police or fire stations! Quote
TeriXeri Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) In an ideal world the buildings are all 3-in-1 style and scale (mainly, without roads, and just plates and bricks, minimal panels and stickers, and larger vehicles would be seperate. But LEGO has tried multiple road systems in the past 5 year or so and now landed at this system. Of course 2 year isn't enough to tell if it's a long term, but LEGO had cardboard roads, and even Xtra taped roads briefly during/before 2021. I can see the road plates have a lot of potential on things like docksides or bridges, but I agree some actual sets with buildings try to cram too much into one set, usually multiple vehicles , roads and a small building. I'm not a huge fan of some of the simpler buildings (which vary a lot per set), but 2020 and before , without road plates had very simple buildings already, and some did not even have full roofs or walls either , for example the hangar in 60229: Rocket Assembly & Transport. But I fully understand City is often trying to work for a certain age group, the 4+ to 6+ sets are notable simpler then the 7+ sets. 3-in-1 sets go to 8+ and 9+ and have benefit of not having to budget vehicles most of the time into their Town sets, as well as Friends, friends is still very reliant on big wall stickers for details, and 3-in-1 has been using stickers in it's last Noodle shop. Still I think 2021-2022 city is going in a better direction compared to most 2020 sets. But there are some questionable things like Stuntz Loops etc, not sure how long that subtheme will be part of City, especially in north america those €20 sets costing $35 are not going to help sales, and the actual sets with loop just feel expensive because of large/very specialized parts and more like hotwheels and not LEGO, but have LEGO prices. I'll wait for 2023 to fully judge road plates' future, but so far Road Plate expansion isn't retiring, so looks like another year at least. I'm more wondering about something like Xtra, which is pretty much gone at this point, no new products for 2022, only some remains being sold off. Edited August 7, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote

So far out of the 2022 sets, only 4+ fire helicopter has a known retire date when it comes to Fire/Police/Medic themes. Don't take this as a guarantee, but I think the current 2022 released policestation/firestation/hospital will be 2 year-run sets until the end of 2023. Of course, never know what LEGO will do , especially in those times, of increasing prices, and shipment costs etc, maybe they'll cut on the total number of sets at some point.
