You made a point about a traffic sign for crossover close to school areas! However, if a school bus driver is going to drop children off at home outside school area, they still need a stop sign tho. - this is my American point of view. But still, a lady-and-child-walking sign totally makes sense.

eh, I don’t like stickers. I prefer printed traffic signs. :)

I see american traffic laws make a stop sign on the vehicle mandatory, but in europe, school bus aren't even recognizable and just use normal bus or vans.

I prefer prints for sure, what I meant was that Xtra did offer some traffic signs in the form of stickers, of course I'd love to see a pack with printed signs+poles to put them on.

I do hope there will be other road plate pack at some point as well, with more of those half-roads included.

Yeah you are right. My aunt used to live in Ireland - my family and I visited her. I noticed that I didn’t see any school bus when my cousins came from school. So yeah I saw your point more clearly.

Ahhh, now I see what you meant! I 100% agree.

I know it’s a bad joke but I would throw a designer under a bus for not including that darn stop sign!

Speaking of traffic lights, I think it needs a new mold.  Instead of 3 individual pieces to form one long piece for green, yellow, and red 1x1 studs. I think a long, single piece with 3 studs donw one side would be easier.

I just don’t like using 3 parts to make one build for 3 studs. Sometimes i feel I rated if one of these 3 parts turn sideways.

I don’t know if it makes sense to you but I have no idea what that black piece is called tho.

You know what I always wanted Lego to do with their City theme? Two waves of Great Vehicles a year. The winter GV wave can be things that sell; heavy equipment, aircrafts, haulers and some type of 4+ set. The second wave can be vehicles that are mainly attractive to a more niche market such as civilian automobiles, buses, straight trucks or any other type of everyday city vehicle. That's just an idea. Doubt it'll happen. Though Lego has been surprising us a lot lately with City. So I wouldn't put it past them.

That's quite an area you get with that 60321 brigade set, 2 16x16 plates, making it half a baseplate + 2 16x16 roads.

Still, not sure which one I like more, the 2019 Downtown, or this one.

I like the new fire wave but the yellow color is not sitting with me, it doesn't match the 2020 and 2021 sets and I cant tell if the new police sets use it too

After seeing a speed build of 60312, I can say that the new police sets also use the neon yellow color as well

that annoys me so much, I wish they would just stick with something because I love the pale yellow

I really loved the 2020 style of police vehicles.

Neon yellow just looks good in the ambulance and ambulance helicopter (in my opinion),  I mean, I do like most of the new police and fire vehicles really much but colors don't seem too good in them.

I like the neon yellow more then the pale yellow, the only thing that couldve been better is not to use a neon yellow panel for some of the fire trucks but use the red/silver panel flame instead like it is on the fire station. Right now it breaks the stripe, by turning a 1 brick high into a 4 brick high.

On the police vehicles the 1-plate high is a lot more subtle but works well with the blue and white.

If previous waves are an indication, the style of vehicles probably will change again in another 2-3 year when they reboot the fire/police sets.

LEGO is an international company, and emergency vehicles are styled very differenty across countries/states or even cities and still change.

2022 vehicles seem to be a mostly a blend of european more recent styles, or styles that are proposed but not mass produced yet.

World City, early City, LEGO Movie, and Prison Island were clearly US inspired with black/white color schemes and sometimes red/blue sirens.

Of course people can like and dislike colors, not trying to excuse LEGO here

It's nice people started agreeing with me around here. :pir-sweet:

Having lived in a couple of European countries, I can faithfully say that I’ve never seen a fire engine like the one in in 60321.  Perhaps just not exactly where I lived? Europe, on the whole, doesn’t have specific School Buses as such.  Certainly not all painted yellow with stop signs.  In the UK some of our police cars are now silver.  In Australia, some fire engines are yellow.  I don’t think I’ve seen an articulated fire engine outside of the USA.

I think LEGO has to have a blend that doesn’t offend either US or European minds too much.  It must be hard, and with each release, the designers must brace themselves for the inevitable criticism when groups within the fan base don’t like things.  All I know is that I look at each wave and pick out the couple of sets that I’ll pick up to add to the growing city,   i might grab others if discounted later on, but these usually end up being modded somewhat.

Those are some danish firetrucks from Aarhus which have the neon yellow stripe, and also the water gun on the liftarm :

For the Police car color scheme, some designs from Germany  seem to be an inspiration for the 1-plate thick cool yellow/neon yellow stripe since 2020 :

The Ambulance helicopters seem to be a inspiration blend of those , with the hospital helicopter being more white, and the helicopter transport more neon yellow.

Those are just some vehicles that might have been inspiration for the color scheme, but I'm not trying to put City theme into the real world, I just tried to find some vehicles that have similarities.

City isn't tied to a real world country/city in any way, it remains a fictional place with unbranded vehicles, ultimately the designers will probably know where the design choices came from.

There are other themes anyway for licensed real-world vehicles, like Speed Champions, Technic, Creator Expert etc

Yeah,  We have the yellow stripe. Often also with a wider bit at the back.  We don’t tend to have the trailer nor the extending cannon thing, but its good to know that its at least based on something.  Just unusual in the UK, and i don’t recall ever seeing one in CH or FR.

As far as colors go, it's also good to keep in mind that the City theme is color-coded to a much greater extent than the real-life subject matter it depicts, no matter what country those colors are inspired by in any given year. After all, in real life, fire stations, police stations, hospitals, etc. are rarely painted to match their corresponding emergency vehicles! Adult-targeted sets like the Fire Brigade and Police Station sets from the Modular Buildings Collection are a lot closer to reality in that respect.

As such, a lot of City color schemes in any given year are focused as much on unifying the sets from any given "category" and making sure they stand out from sets in other "categories" as on maintaining any sort of real-world accuracy. After all, even in the United States, emergency vehicle color schemes and designs can vary WILDLY between states and even between cities/counties: see here, here, and here for various examples.

To be honest, I sort of wish that the school bus in the school set were Flame Yellowish Orange instead of standard Bright Yellow, for several reasons:

  • Flame Yellowish Orange is a closer match for American "School Bus Yellow".
  • A more yellow-orange color would help the school bus stand out better from the yellow and black color schemes used for a lot of City construction vehicles.
  • The school and bus stop in the same set have Flame Yellowish Orange accents, so Flame Yellowish Orange would better match that color scheme.

I'm not totally sure why the designers opted for Bright Yellow in this case, though perhaps they plan on shifting construction vehicles (which are also often a yellow-orange color in real life) to Flame Yellowish Orange the next time those get a wave of sets of their own.

Who can know for sure, it very well could be there simply aren't enough pieces in that color. Although regular yellow makes the most sense to me.

I don't think Construction will shift to flame-yellow, but maybe we'll see more blue/yellow like the crane, 2015 and 2017 construction trucks had blue cabs.

And speaking of construction, really hope LEGO will do an excavator and dump truck that isn't 4+ soon.

The darkred garbage truck from the Police Station looks great , it can dump trash into the truck via a hatch in the roof ,but I haven't seen if it has a dump feature through the open rear.

Using those road plate ramps sideways could be an interesting way to form the sides of a dump truck bed.

Could also be demolition if LEGO wants to re-use this part from Stuntz :

6329623.jpg

I don't expect a Mining theme this year as the moon sets pretty much have the same discovery/geode function with the round boulders, however, maybe LEGO will re-use the mould in some cave exploration type of set, or bring back the 2019 geodes in colors like transparent purple (minecraft added amethyst and dripstone caves recently so kids know about it)

I’m more excited for parts than the sets, although the park set with the yellow(!!!!!) bike & lifeguard beach set are definite buys. Finally get the yellow bike...one set in 1998. Now I just need the dark pink to have all colors. The kittens are fantastic! Ever since the dark grey cat showed up as a BaM exclusive, my love for the cat has grown. Great new torso prints & hairpieces as well. And of course the squirrels. Once the sets come up on B&P it’s gonna be a pricey order.

I can understand the return of the yellow bike being nice, in my case, that 1998 yellow bike set was my only bike until like 2018 and didn't really think of it being rare, a lot of those small box sets were part of some promotions from a nearby supermarket at the time, 1997-1999.
