Ngoc Nguyen Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) I already planned to open this topic back in March or April, but I got caught up in work and stuff. Recent discussions in the 42129 thread makes me feel that inow is the good time to start it. My vision for this thread is that it will be a directory that contains the PF conversion mods for all of the Control+ sets so far. I have created a few mods myself as well. And I'll try to keep the information organized by updating this first post. If you have any mods, feel free to contribute. This thread can also be the directory for Studio models for the C+ sets, so that anyone with a mod idea can give it a try. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42099 Available PF mods on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-28766/olivierz/4x4-x-treme-off-roader-42099-power-functions-base/#details ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42100 There is currently no PF conversion mod available on Rebrickable. I've designed two PF mods for this set in Studio, but I haven't published yet because I haven't made the mod instruction. They will be published later this year. The mods are: - Full RC PF conversion: This mod replaces two hubs with two PF battery boxes, replaces all motors with 7 L motors, and adds 4 RC receivers. - Motorized PF conversion: Because a big empty box with 7 motors engaged in direct transmission is boring, I want to add something more Technic-ish, more mechanically interesting. This mod removes all hubs and motors for the base, which makes slewing and driving manual, and add 1 PF battery box, 1 L-motor, and a gearbox with 4 multi-directional switches for the functions of the super structure. Thanks efferman for sharing the base 42100 Studio file. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42109 My free mods: - L-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-84883/nguyengiangoc/42109-pf-conversion-l-motor-steer/ - Servo-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-84884/nguyengiangoc/42109-pf-conversion-servo-motor-steer/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42114 My free mod: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-85933/nguyengiangoc/42114-pf-conversion-servo-motor-steer/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42124 My free mods: - L-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-84954/nguyengiangoc/42124-pf-conversion-l-motor-steer/ - Servo-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-84955/nguyengiangoc/42124-pf-conversion-servo-motor-steer/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42129 My free mods: - L-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-84984/nguyengiangoc/42129-pf-conversion-l-motor-steer/ - Servo-motor steer: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-85004/nguyengiangoc/42129-pf-conversion-servo-motor-steer/#details ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42131 My free mod: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-92919/nguyengiangoc/42131-pf-conversion/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 42160 My free mod: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-161275/nguyengiangoc/42160-pf-conversion Edited October 14, 2023 by Ngoc Nguyen Quote
CrazyKreations Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 (edited) Very nice thanks for sharing, These conversions will help PF lovers like me. :) Edited July 4, 2021 by CrazyKreations Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted July 18, 2021 Author Posted July 18, 2021 (edited) I've finished and tested the PF conversion mod for 42109 and 42124. As shown in the 42129 thread I've already finished the preliminary PF conversion mod for it as well. Each of these sets will have two mod versions: L-motor steer and Servo steer. The reason for 2 mod versions is that the Servo is really expensive, and while some may have some Servo motors lying around, others (including me) may not want to spend 70$ just for a used one. I'll publish the mods for 42109 and 42124 soon. Edited July 18, 2021 by Ngoc Nguyen Quote
1gor Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 With your conversion to PF elements, you're tempting me to make PF version of Zetros... Quote

Oh, there is: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-40851/johnnym/42109-wpower-functions/ I did this in early 2020. It's not exactly the same, but very close. My goal was also to do it w/o the new frames. And there's also this one: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-52954/l1anchu/power-functions-rally-car/ ....which seems to be closer to the original 42109 for some details (e.g. hood), but is also a premium MOC/mod. Both are listed in the "Alt. Builds" tab for 42109 on Rebrickable under "Modifications (MOCs)". And BTW @Ngoc Nguyen great idea to have a directory of PF conversions for C+ sets. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 @johnnym Thanks for the information! I've updated the first post. Quote

As for the full RC PF conversion of 42100, a really Technic-heavy approach would be to have a remote-controlled gearbox. Three motors are enough for eight functions, although you'd be limited to using two functions at a time, which would impact playability. Still, a really fun build. Quote

Oh wow, the Liebherr powered as if it were 8043. Now that would be fun. Oh I hope someone takes up that challenge! Quote
suffocation Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I used a similar solution on my cherry picker, which is more or less the size of 42008, so 42100 has more than enough space to fit everything. I guess the eighth function could be a retractable ladder. Quote

1gor Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 I see in your conversions that you use PF L-motor like C+ L-motor. I have tries that setup few years ago with m-motor, but after several attempt m-motor got broken so I suggest using white 24 tooth clutch gear with L-motor or stick to servo. Nevertheless it is very kind of you to post those conversations for us whose Lego evolution ended with PF elements. Quote

Worry not! All of the designs involve L motors have built-in safety features: - In the 42109 L motor steer, the L motor goes through a pair of 8:24 clutch. - In the 42124 L motor steer, the L motor is connected to a friction pin which is connected to the steering rack. - In the 42129 L motor steer, the L motor is connected to a friction pin which is connected to the 12z gear. 13 minutes ago, 1gor said: whose Lego evolution ended with PF elements Mine also ends there. 1gor Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 I see now after re-reading instructions (mobile phone is a bit slow so on Zetros mod few pages didn't show, specially where you use blue axlepin and white pin connector). I'll steal your idea when I swich to harvester project Quote

Ngoc Nguyen Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 I got my paws on the 42124 with no electronics earlier this week and tested out the L motor steer. I learned the hard way that the L motor doesn't steer very well. It can steer while the front wheels are rolling, but can't steer when the model is standing still. The direct output from the motor doesn't have enough torque to overcome the weight and friction of the wheels. Quote
Burko-uk Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 I had a go at 42114 myself, with dubious results. I left the gearbox in place, and tried to control it with a geared down M motor to keep it true to the original. Didn't work, so left the gearbox in place with a manual selector lever (which rather defeats the point but there we go). End result was a LOT of clicky noises when trying to drive and turn, so not sure what I've messed up. Got distracted by other things, but I will go back to it at some point. I did manage to fit the battery box in place of the Control Module, and rammed the IR in the cab space. Fundamentally for such a big model, there's surprising little space in it! Quote

That's why I removed it from my 42114 PF in the beginning. Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 Could a Servo be worked into the space for the shifting motor with one of the gears just being ignored? Quote
Void_S Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 I think it may requre a steeper with a ratched assembly, a-la Big Porche shift padders, so the gearbox shifts when the servo rotate at 90 degrees and does nothing when the servo auto-returns. So each servo activation will mean the chage to a higer or lower gear. Quote
