I don't think it increases or decreases the chance the next theme is Spaced based. I don't think it will happen, unless it's a minidoll theme.

There's space references in some Lego Friends sets at the moment. People are speculating that the Friends are going to space soon

Yes, that could happen, but like City Space it wouldn't just be a space theme, it be under the Friends theme.

City Space, Friends Space, 3-in-1 Space, Monkie Kid Space, there are a lot of offerings at the moment (compared to Pirates or Castle at least), but that seems to be the current way LEGO seems to do things currently instead of the nearly constant 1978-1998(+2001), or 2008-2013 "standalone" Space waves

However,  I don't think it would rule out a dedicated Sci-Fi theme either, 2011 City Space co-existed with the release of Alien Conquest in the same year.

Yeah, it's hard to definitively rule out future themes based on what would/wouldn't overlap excessively with current ones. I mean, I know a lot of AFOLs' first reaction to the Monkie Kid sets was surprise that LEGO would introduce another theme with a similar blend of mythology and sci-fi mechs/vehicles alongside Ninjago. And I know that there's recently been discussion in other threads of how often revivals of the Castle theme have launched the same year as revivals of the Harry Potter theme.
