I kind of want to go into a political rant, but instead I'll just revel in the depth of my rebellion from modern technology--I don't own a single USB-C plug!
September 28, 20213 yr Quote Which electronic devices are covered by today's proposal? The products concerned by these new requirements are mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, hand-held video game consoles, and portable speakers. The broadening of the scope beyond mobile phones allows to further enhance the positive impacts of the requirements. Why are other devices not included in the scope of the proposal? The products covered by the Commission's proposal are among the most used by a large group of consumers and share similar charging characteristics. Other products such as earbuds, smart-watches and fitness trackers were not considered for technical reasons linked to their size, use conditions, etc. The products concerned by the amendment to the Radio Equipment Directive were identified as having a strong potential to integrate the common charging solution and to secure the biggest benefits for consumers and the environment. From Q&A of EU comission. Pretty sure LEGO falls into neither category listed. So most likely they'll keep using the cheaper one - Micro USB (since they're still using it, unless I missed something?) As well as your erotic device, your camping lamp, your bluetooth speaker and everything else. No escape unless you don't buy in the EU It looks like you have missed the second paragraph m8... Quote Today, the Commission takes an important step against e-waste and consumer inconvenience, caused by the prevalence of different, incompatible chargers for electronic devices. Years of working with industry on a voluntary approach already brought down the number of mobile phone chargers from 30 to 3 within the last decade, but could not deliver a complete solution. The Commission is now putting forward legislation to establish a common charging solution for all relevant devices. With today's proposal for a revised Radio Equipment Directive, the charging port and fast charging technology will be harmonised: USB-C will become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld videogame consoles. In addition, the Commission proposes to unbundle the sale of chargers from the sale of electronic devices. This will improve consumers' convenience and reduce the environmental footprint associated with the production and disposal of chargers, thereby supporting the green and digital transitions. "USB-C will be the common port. This will allow consumers to charge their devices with the same USB-C charger, regardless of the device brand." Brand and device type are different things. The only devices affected are the smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld videogame consoles. Any brand making these devices will, in fact, need to obide by the new EU law. However if said brand is making something different, they're free to use whatever you want, even a serial port on those vibrating sticks if it fancies you so You can also download the factsheet, where on the second page it lists the devices affected))))) Otherwise we'd also need a USB-C port on microwaves, toasters, washing machines... you get the gist))) Regards, syclone♡
