Personally I think this line up looks really good with only four I'll be passing on.

A few disappointments versus my imagination from the leaks (bard, forest sprite, and moon knight could have all been amazing with a @Robert8 design, but are instead just okay.)

I also agree with folks that said that the generic minifigures with the foal and toucan are shockingly lame.

That said still happy overall.  I plan on getting multiples of quite a few of them.

My ranking:

  1. Bard seems to be the stand-out best.
  2. I really like the Forest Spirit too. I consider him a gnome type fellow. Love the acorn had and other accessories.
  3. The raccoon girl is also great because who doesn't love trash pandas?
  4. Snow Warrior is cool -- looks like a Hun warrior decked out for higher elevations.
  5. The Classic Space Alien is here because of the the torso. Otherwise seems low effort.
  6. The Moon Warrior should have been something we can make sense of, like a Dark Elf. Darker skin, lighter hair, and some elf ears would have made this one an instant winner.
  7. through whatever - meh

I agree with some of the comments earlier about the lack of imagination or uniqueness in some of the figures, like the girl with the foal. Having said that, I'll still get that one, along with the forest researcher/toucan, Racoon costume, wheelchair racer, and (my personal favourite) the bard.

I think so. The insect head gear has black colour as eyes (At least I assume it is meant to represent eyes) printed on it. Took me a while to see a face, too - something that never happened in any Lego build or figure before which makes it one of the worst designs Lego has ever produced in my opinion... right next to series 19 carebear.

Boy do I disagree haha. I think the insect looks like a snail with a beak and the color scheme along with the unusual choice of part and print is exactly the type of risk taking and creative venturing I want out of Lego. I think they play it too safe sometimes and the figures come off as basic (that Faun girl is just a well printed city civilian with an animal accessory? No particular idea or trope or concept? Who is she and how is she collectible?). This Snailian is super creative I love him

also I loved the care bear! Thats exactly the vibe I got from him and personally I would love if Lego expanded on two figures from previous series in forthcoming series. The Series 20 unlicensed Power Ranger and the Series 19 Care Bear. I would love more colorful bears with stomach prints and unlicensed colors for this Power Ranger-esque team. We got a Red Ranger and a Rainbow Bear, would love a Sunshine Bear and Blue, Pink, Black, and Yellow rangers. Not sure if Lego would risk making more as they may have some sort of copyright on the general likeliness but I personally think the unlicensed Care bear and Power Ranger are the best thing to come out of any recent series and would rather those get constant inclusions over the tired costume gimmick.

Agree. The girl with the foal looks like something you can get out of a BAM station or even a city set

This is the collectable MINIFIGURES line, not the collectable cool accesory that happens to have a minifigure included

Maybe a stereotypical farmer girl would have been more unique. And having the foal as an accesory would make sense

That idea has potential for great toros print as well, maybe even dual molded legs.

Hee hee, I'm absolutely calling him/her that henceforth.

Completely agree, but I'll likely buy a bunch anyways for said accessories.

That might be, but to me personally it is all about the new animals I can get from the CMF. I want the best/most useful fig to come with the animal, but would buy it no matter how bad it was.
If we do not take the animals into consideration the only figs I really want from the CMF are Castle, Pirates and Native American figs and those are rare maybe one or two per series in total (I still end up buying City, costumes etc also).
However if they did not use the accessories to make some of the figs unique the CMF would be a rather boring to me..

Dont get wrong, I love the foal and I think its an excellent inclusion, but the foal even as cool as it is, does not justify for the lame minifigure

As I suggested a farmer girl with a foal could have been more interesting. Or a Jockey or a cowboy kid...

Something different that just "random girl smiling"

I have recently started noticing a trend that personally worries me, wherein plain figures occupy a CMF slot simply because they have an interesting accessory. It does seem like they think the foal in this case is the selling point for that figure. As someone who gets CMFs for the figures and not for their accessories, this is very disappointing to me as well.

I get what you're saying and I somewhat agree. But at least even the "ordinary" looking figures have exclusive prints, which can help fill out any city (I get tired of seeing the same prints used in so many City sets).

Overall, I really like what we've seen of this particular series so far! My personal favorite is the Forest Spirit. I'll be curious to see which ones my kids gravitate towards!

I think Wheelchair Racer would be a first minifigure with disabilities to be included in this regular CMF series.

I don’t mean to be rude but i just rmember you used to complain about Vidiyo’s Bandmates Series’ lame, not-so-new accessories but you kinda praised the minifigures several months ago.

But…I 100% agree with you on what you said about CMF.  Minifigures are a bit underwhelmed but I honestly think this Series 22 is not too bad at all.

Oh and I am too excited about foal and toucan molds than accessories (I still want that Forest Sprite’s mushroom, Bard’s hat and lute, and a few more tho).

The series is a mixed bag, that's for sure, with some winners and some ... not so winners. I do think they missed some opportunities to make things a little better, though. Like the husky with the snow warrior ... why not make it all white like a Samoyed instead of the same darn husky we get time after time after time? And I agree about the girl with the foal - what's the point of this figure? What is she supposed to represent? (And I ABHOR that hat and hair piece, no matter what they color it.) But that being said, there is enough here to snag my interest.  Still, I'd would have liked to have seen what they could do with a traditional 16 figure line-up. I think four more well-realized figures might have taken some of the attention away from the less polished designs.

I just don’t see the hate for either the foal girl, or the jungle explorer/birdwatcher.
To me BOTH are fine enough figures, and made of great parts, and they come with copious accessories - including the amazing new animals.

I get that people like what they like, and want what they want, but maybe -just maybe- Lego has done some research and found that these sorts of figures are popular with kids?
Also don’t think a CMF needs to be a specific, or agreed, or known archetype to exist. Like when was a space miner a thing? Or a guy dressed as a Venus fly trap?

Love love love that this series seems to be walking the walk a little with some explicit diversity (two older people figures, and the wheelchair athlete), as well as the gender parity.

excited for these figures and better pics.

@cosmic Well, I am happy for you, if you like them. I really am. Minifigures are little pieces of art. So of course it is a matter of taste. The carebear is just pretty much dadaism in minifigure form... it can not get much more polarizing. To be honest "taking risks" is the last thing I expect Lego to do with the cmf. There are literally "to do lists" online, that would lead straight to a huge success if somehow nicely done. In my eyes it is not "brave" to do a care bear when in pretty much every threat people beg for example for a sheppard, everyone knows children love animals and the sheppard has army building potential especially when given a castle civilian outfit... it is just stupid. I also don't say these boring "BAM"-Figures with nice accessory are very good (the foal girl could have been a young female squire with a torso also useable for a boy for example). But I'd say these boring random figures are way better with than without a nice animal, instrument or something like that. Another figure from my top 10 worst cmf figures would be for example the Nasa Rocket girl.

The boy from the new Lego book "how to be a knight" would rock as a cmf. A wooden Wheelchair (standard Wheelchair piece in brown with new wooden wheels) would work well in any historical or fantasy setting. The whole figure in wheelchair would work as a costume in a City setting, too. The castle fans would buy the figure several times just for the prints on torso and legs. We could give him a second new mould like the wheelchair racer got: A wooden toy sword. An item appearing again and again on so many wish lists and would be reusable in so many settings ...

Right on!  Thanks to your assistance, I really don’t think this Series 22 is the worst one at all. These minifigures may be a bit underwhelmed but I am so excited to get them! I love collecting minifigures no matter what.

This series is real neat - a mixture of fantasty, sci-fi, costumed, and City characters, which it’s awesome. I’m pumped for adorable foal and toucan molds.

i can’t wait for better pics soon too!

Interesting to hear your perspective. I personally find the foal girl to be no different than what I would find in a city set. The examples you pointed our (space miner, Venus fly trap guy) strike me as things that are extremely different from what we would get in a set. In comparison, this feels like a boring figure to me, whose main selling point is her accessory. Since I am not big on accessories, that is why I don't find her appealing. But if you're after these minifigs because you want to use the parts for something else, I understand why you would find her more appealing.

I am sure she will be popular with kids that like horses. I am skeptical that a kid would want the fig if she didn't come with the foal, but you have a point that Lego knows more about this than the rest of us.

Lego does a ton of research with kids, but you just have to look at the vidiyo flop to see that doesn't always insulate them from the wrong choices.

I think keeping costs down drives them to make sacrifices in design scope and quality.

Yup, just because they did research doesn’t mean they can’t make mistakes. And there’s certainly always room for improvement. But we are all entitled to our own opinions, I personally side with those who find her disappointing, (regarding the Foal girl).

But on the note of Vidiyo, I think the marketing, types of packaging/sets (boxes you can’t feel), Beatboxes with pieces that are hard to repurpose (especially for a kid), an app with little appeal, I think this is what contributed to the decline of the theme. As far as the actual figures themselves, I think thats why some like me really enjoyed the sets. I think I would love to see some of that Vidiyo approach brought over to the main CMF line. Why don’t we get a fairy here? We got a green and purple with blue and purple wings respectively. Why not a blue or yellow fairy? I wouldn’t mind seeing additions to that. Also we got a Candy Mermaid and Gummy Bear Man fig in that line. Am I crazy to think that concepts like that should replace whats essentially become just city figs with accessories? Food for thought.

That is fair :classic: I assume that is how a normal horse girl/farmer girl looks today, so the test groups like and recognize that. To me personally it would be much better if we got a medieval stable-girl etc or a native American girl with the foal, however I understand that may be to specific and maybe not so popular among the "horse girls" in the test groups :shrug_oh_well:

You have a point or two, but the reason vidiyo failed was definitely not because of the minifigs

I mean, all this discussion really shows is that the CMF line continues to deliver different things, for different people. Many of the figures lots if people on here get giddy about I really don’t have much interest in either 🤷🏽‍♂️

That doesn’t surprise me but I’m happy for the change. Before now, LEGO has introduced minifigures with disabilities exclusively in the City sets over the past 5 years (the wheelchair was released in 2016, time flies too fast!).

I buy the minifigures for the accessories regardless of the minifigure pieces included (they’re a bonus, I usually find a use for them). I think as long as everyone gets a little of bit of what they want, we can all be somewhat happy.

Aw man, those options you mention now make me feel even more disappointed about the figure we ended up getting!
