Five heroes set out from Heroica Hall just making their transport shuttle to Recivic. The Æthergate voyage to the Vicrar system is unnoteworthy and the team touches down for a momentary layover in the Recivic capital of Jöklofistur before catching a tundra hopper to the frozen town of Vindkoss. The wild wind whips and whirls sending freezing snow into their faces as the group inquire of a few local Cricet for Mervin Softpaw. They are soon directed to the Frozen Flame Tavern.

51411613166_bf779565c9_z.jpg

The warm glow of infrared lamps permeates the tavern as a dozen Cricet sit around sipping hot drinks of cocoa, coffee, and mulled wine. A cheery tune plays across the hall as the chatter quiets upon the heroes' entrance, but picks up again as an older graying Cricet approaches the team.

"Oh hey there, look at you lot. Stacked to the gills with weaponry, tools, and armor ain't ya? You're either the fiercest and most diverse team of Ivishin mushers we've ever seen, or you be the folks from Heroica, no?"

"Hello friend."  Ronin respectfully bows to the elderly Cricet.
"Yes we are members of Heroica.  I am called Ronin.  Who are you?"

Polaris shaking the excess snow off then brushing off the extra snow on MILES near the entrance.

Please tell me the blizzard is not typical weather around here. Oh, sorry I am Polaris Ursaring and my metallic friend here is MILES.

In his standard mono tone voice. /// Greetings. We are from Heroics. Were you the one requesting our help?

Enson entered the establishment blowing and stamping his feet to keep warm, loosening his heavy scarf and removing the two pairs of (rather absurd looking) mittens he was wearing in the process.  As he heard the music he smiled effusively, clearly enjoying it immensely. Upon being addressed by the Cricet however, his face assumed a more reserved expression and he clasped his hands before himself, bowing deeply as he did so.  "Greetings sir," he said, "I am Ensonvilterayquis, Enson if you prefer, at your service."  He straightened up.  "Would I be correct in assuming you are Mervin Softpaw?  We were told we could find you, them, here."

(Just a quick note - Decker bankrupted himself for a Plasma potion!)

The planet looked almost like a palette swap of what Decker was used to, looking down from the shuttle window as the ship entered upper atmosphere. A burning Akharif orange exchanged for a muted white, particles being wind whipped across the planet surface.

But what Decker wasn't prepared for was the snow. Walking from the shuttle to the tundra hopper, watching the flakes storm down... The scrapyard scrounger looked at the snow with a noticeable amusement. He had one hand outside the tundra hopper as it zoomed along, letting the frost collect on his glove.

When they got to the tavern, Decker held his hand up to the infrared lamp and watched the frozen sheen on his glove melt into water.

Fascinating.

"Aye, I think that's us." Decker nods to the Cricet. "Is this kinda weather the norm around here? I can see how a race track could get untidy."

Decker turns to his fellow heroes. "Enson, we've traded names. Polaris, we crossed paths too. Ronin, how the hell are ya. And you with the pink hair... I don't know if I catched your name?"

Polaris was a little confused "Didn't we all meet up on the transport?" She thought to herself. Yes, still haven't found any ammo for your weapon... Well, since it kinda awkward now Mr. Ronin what are you exactly? I only ask for medical reason, you know incase I have to work on you. Aaaammm yes, states he is a quo'ri. And then Mr. DeCable and Ms. Kundacki states they are human. But that brings up another question for Ms. Kundacki. Do you have some rare medical condition that makes your skin green?

Well that is something... MILES and Polaris basically just lean against the wall with the table in front of them. I am basically sitting on MILES already and the chairs don't look strong enough to hold up to his weight... I guess I will take this "skillfully made cocoa" it sounds sweet to the taste.

"Uh, all my family is human. I know I was adopted when I was too small to remember much." Aysu shrugged. "My family are scrappers and they found me in space. Some escape pod with cryostasis that no one could ID to a ship."

She shrugged again and put on a smile. "Maybe being in Heroica can lead me to my origins?"

Noticing their patron, Aysu saluted. "Hi, hope I can help out here!"

Ah, I see. I will have to update my personal files. Polaris started to tap on a screen attached to MILES. Humanoid, unknown species... Oh, yes. Hopefully you will find some answers.

"Of course, of course, but first drinks."

Those who had ordered have their beverages of choice arrive piping hot. Polaris feels decidedly refreshed by the hot cocoa skillfully prepared (+2 Skill for next battle), while the strength of the black coffee bolsters his energy (+2 Strength for next battle).

"Now then, down to brass tacks, no? I'm on that there board of directors organizing the Ivishin as you're all aware. Well I tells you, a few weeks back we started having an influx of a whole slew of predatory critters; frost hawks, polar gators, glacier mongers, thankfully nothing as big as the rime drake we had circlin' the place a few months back, but still. Just the sheer number of them is becoming a problem though. Generally a handful here or there is typical and we can handle it or they just stick over by Kristal's where it's warmer. But with this many ravenous maws, its going to pose a safety danger to the Ivishin racers in a few weeks. And we really need this race to go through."

Ronin Deception Proficiency vs. Enson Insight Proficiency - (3, 6, 1, 2) 1 Success vs. (3, 1, 6, 4) 2 Successes

Enson sense that Ronin seemed to matter of fact given his hesitancy earlier from the hall and is fairly convinced the statement was false.

Mongers? What do they look like? The others sound like things I seen before or close to it... Kristal is that a town or a place like a hot spring... Well hopefully us just patrolling the area scare them off.

"They're an insectoid species, big claws, lots of teeth." Mervin takes a drink of his own cocoa, "Kristal Ice, they're a mining conglomerate that owns nearly a third of the planet dontcha know. They've got a defrosting station out by the Guffa Flats. They've got their own security keeping the facility clear, beefed it up too after the drake."

Resolving to keep Ronin's little deception to himself for now, Enson concentrated on the Cricet's story.  He frowned as Mervin's account concluded.  "Pardon me, but you speak of this situation as if it's unusual.  I assume that there's been some sort of ecological disruption recently in order to drive so many predators away from their natural hunting grounds.  Do you have any idea what that might be?  And while I'm asking questions, how large a stretch of the course is effected by this?  I don't think five people is enough to cover the entire course, though I may be mistaken."

We had a few folks go scouting aboat, but they couldn't find anything and had to turn back after encountering their second group of Frost Hawks. As far as we can tell, it's only impacting the first stretch of the course here. We reached out to Snjótri, they're the next town a few days down the track and they haven't had any issues near them.
