Anyone know if/when the Lego purchase limit resets and if they keep track of purchases between the Amazon store and S@H? I purchased the limit of 3 of the classic gray 48x48 stud base plates and need a 4th for a MOC. Maybe one more purchase of one won't cause a cancellation of the order?

I HIGHLY doubt they are watching amazon. Different names/email addys would make it almost impossible to keep track who buys what there. Also, do they really care what you buy on other sites, not just amazon?

I asked because it's the official Lego store on Amazon. It wouldn't surprise me if they had a way of monitor it. I guess worse comes to worse it will just get cancelled.

Sorry for the double post but thought I'd provide an update for posterity. When I tried to order one more I could add it to my cart but it was automatically removed when trying to check out. About a week since purchase delivery was a couple days ago. It's clearly being tracked. I could still purchase from others sellers if I wanted to. I'm not going to try from S@H right now because it's more expensive and no free shipping.

Do LEGO sell on amazon US? I'm a bit surprised as this would mean they are both stocking and competing against amazon, as well as competing against their own website.

As to when do purchase limits end, I believe it is never! There are a few items I have not been able to purchase for a couple of years due to limits. They used to have a limit of 5 on PF M motors, and I use loads of them. Luckily they decided to increase it.  I can understand limits when fast selling items are released but not for long standing items that last for years in the store.

Apparently they are. I was able to get the master builder series cantina there as well even though it's out of stock on S@H. No VIP points though. I suspect they have done the math and decided it's to their benefit to compete against their own site.

I agree. Completely understand the reasoning behind the limits but some things could have higher limits. Worse comes to worse I may have opportunity to hit up a Lego store in a few weeks or can have a relative order it for me on their account.

Setting limit is to make a better control and arrangement so that for best selling products they won't be all sold out to one or two customers, and more customers will benefit. They certainly won't cancel your order if you buy on somewhere else e.g. Amazon. They hope you to buy all of them instead.

There are also independent / third party sellers on amazon. Was the seller actually LEGO, with a LEGO company address?

Shipped from and sold by Amazon so don't know about address but if you visit the Lego Store on Amazon it looks official. Their red and white logo ( I know they are very serious about that logo) and everything. Can post a link if that's allowed. Almost certainly official. Plus I can't imagine a third party seller enforcing a limit that strictly.

If it says sold by amazon, then they are the retailer.

True, but I guess it is like when Target, Walmart, and the international equivalents distribute Lego.  So by allowing Amazon to be a distributor that removes some of the competition aspect. It seems strict enforcement of purchase limits is part of the distribution agreement.

Wow that is news to me, I certainly wouldn't think LEGO has the power to control how many sets you buy from other retailers.

Amazon do have their own purchase limits on some items. I doubt they would share the details of who they have sold to with lego or try to link them to lego accounts. It would be illegal in the UK and EU. They do not have the right to share customer name and address data.

Plus remember anyone can walk into a lego store or toy store and purchase without handing over Identification.

Lego has the power quite easily. They own the rights to their product. They can require just about anything of a retailer. It would be in whatever contract between Lego and the retailer. It wouldn't surprise me if they did require the retailers keep to limits.

It is also possible the limits I ran into were solely Amazons and yes, I don't see them sharing purchase data with other if for no other reason than its proprietary. I could probably buy from S@H without issues but until they having something else I want in stock I don't want to pay the additional shipping. Fortunately I may have a rare chance to hit up a Lego store in a few weeks. Nearest one is 6 hours round trip from me.
