Fingers crossed for the Disneyland / Sleeping Beauty castle in its new, vibrant colour scheme!
Accio Lego Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 If Disney really wants lego to waste a chunk of budget on the platinum versions of the main mascot characters I find it much more likely that lego would put them in the speculated D2C and leave the CMF for a more nostalgic showcase of Disney animated characters through the ages. Makes way more sense as the celebration versions would all go well together in a set (and wouldn’t need any new molds) while unnecessarily stuffing them in the CMF would take space away from characters that need the CMF mold budget and leave the designers scrambling to figure out exclusive minifigs for the theoretical D2C that haven’t been done yet. I genuinely think there’s a good chance the only classic mascot character we’ll get in the CMF is Sorcerer Mickey. With Lego introducing the Mickey & Friends theme that has already produced several versions of the classic core characters at non-D2C prices - putting anything more than the requisite Mickey variant in there to represent Disney Animation’s origins is just going to hurt the CMF sales even among casual fans. Kids aren’t going to want to buy a blind bag if they look at the package and see mostly the exact same heads they’ve got at home in their playsets after all, and platinum versions are definitely something that’s really only going to appeal to adults (another reason I think they’d do better in a D2C).
Lion King Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I really don’t care if Disney series is branded as “Disney 100”… it’s still a same series.Just saying. and I’m pretty sure Disney-themed lines, like Disney Princesses and Mickey & Friends would be branded in a same fashion as CMF series. Regardless, we will see what happen after this so-called Disney 100 series.

The previous two series with a Disney license (MCU & the Muppets) also only had 12 even though they both would’ve greatly benefitted from 16+ figures
Surge Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 is there any real levity behind the theory of a d2c other than the fact that series 1 and 2 both got one? i wonder when we will get a fig list. any day now i think. we got the list for the muppets last month last year so im expecting it soon.

Most likely, we will see a list of Disney minifigure in April 2023 IF Disney Series 3 (or Disney 100, whatever it is) is scheduled to be released in May.

They're more than likely to appear in the platinum sparkling gala versions Disney is releasing for the 100 Years of Wonder Celebration starting on January 27, 2023. All the merch related to the 100th anniversary will have them in those outfits They didn't even bother to put Goofy in the other two series, I really don't think lego cares too much about leaving the others out again the third time around. Also I think there's a big difference between the disney park (among others) merchandise (with the Platinum outfits) and other merchandise like you can find in regular toy stores. Park merchandise often strikes me as event based. To show off that you've been there at that specific moment, it's a memory more than anything else. Made to be different every other visit. Would lego really waste slots on one-off outfits that would be forgotten after the celebration ends? With promotional items like polybags or comic con stuff maybe, but a cmf series?I feel like the cmf's name is mostly just to tag along the celebration rather than really be part of it, just a name to slab onto the packaging for promotional purposes without really affecting the contents inside too much (with perhaps a few notable exceptions of characters that are justified more into this series than anywhere else. But that would be more of a "Not now then when?" scenario.)

Accio Lego Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Falconfan just revealed on Instagram that the Disney classic animation set 43220 will be based on Peter Pan. That’s the $20 111 pieces one so I’m expecting the molded rowboat and/or crocodile pieces to feature.
Falconfan1414 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Even better promo revealed that we are getting a up house!

THELEGOBATMAN Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE WE'RE ACTUALLY GETTING THE HOUSE FROM UP! Day one must-buy.
Murdoch17 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 If we get anything from UP, I want the zeppelin. House is cool, but the Zeppelin is cooler, IMO.
Agent 86 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 (edited) I hope the Up house will be minifigure scale. 598 pieces doesn’t leave a lot of room for size or internal details, especially as … at least 100+ of those pieces will be for the balloons. The Peter Pan book sounds interesting. And potentially like the start of a whole new series of Disney sets. I’m not sure about the train … it would be nice to have a more affordable option. But, 4+ … it doesn’t inspire great confidence. Edited November 22, 2022 by Agent 86
BrickBob Studpants Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Here we go!! Damn, TLG is firing out of all cylinders for 2023!
Bainter-ban Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 There is also a castle rumoured at $ 159. Seems a bit strange that a small castle will replace the $ 380 Disney Castle? Unless there is another Castle D2C coming next year?

Still that’s a lot less than the Frozen Ice Castle. And with all the recent price increases, plus the Disney tax, I’m not sure what $160 (US) would actually get you.

Even though Sleeping Beauty's Castle is significantly smaller than Cinderella's, that's way too cheap for it to replace the now retiring D2C. I'd say at least $250 for it to be done properly. I'd absolutely love for it to happen seeing as Disneyland is my home park in term of Disney.

I'd say at least $250 for it to be done properly. I'd absolutely love for it to happen seeing as Disneyland is my home park in term of Disney. Same for me! Back in the day I said that if there were a LEGO Sleeping Beauty Castle, I would sell off my Cinderella Castle in order to pay for it if I had to, because I'd rather have the one I'm familiar with than the other one. (That's still my position, though it's very unlikely I would have to.) And I agree that $160 is probably too low for a proper Sleeping Beauty Castle set at the current price scaling. At the same time, if LEGO is going to keep producing Disney theme park sets, I can't imagine they'd want to be without a castle at any given time, since the castles are by far the most iconic buildings in the parks.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I hope we get more sets without minidolls next year. Carl's house obviously is one, but I do hope there's more beyond that.
JeanGreyForever Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Has it been confirmed if the Peter Pan Storybook set is minidolls instead of minifigs? I'll be really disappointed if it's minidolls because I wanted a Wendy to join my Peter, Tink, and Hook. It would have been nice to have a whole line of Disney storybook sets for other movies like Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc. but I'll have little to no interest if minifigs aren't involved. And I agree with everyone else that $160 seems too low to be the Sleeping Beauty castle. I'd love to see it represented in Lego form though, either as the Disneyland version or the Disneyland Paris version since I think that's the most spectacular castle from all the parks. But the Disneyland one is definitely more iconic, small as it is.
Accio Lego Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 1 hour ago, JeanGreyForever said: Has it been confirmed if the Peter Pan Storybook set is minidolls instead of minifigs? As far as I know it hasn’t been confirmed on way or the other yet - but I think there are many people wary about assuming it will use minifigures because most of the sets featuring young female characters like Wendy tend to be Princess themed and use minidolls. I think there’s a more than reasonable chance it’ll use regular minifigs, seeing as it isn’t a Princess set in any way.
