I pre-ordered at the original price on day 1. I've sent LEGO a very snotty e-mail demanding their immediate confirmation that I am paying the price I agreed. It doesn't help that their damned website is insisting I "update" my account and refuses to let me actually do so because there is a database error they can't seem to be bothered to fix.

Rant over...

I believe that this was a planned thing. If it was a misstake we would have seen this in one or two countries. Not every country. And even if it was a misstake they wont be able to later on come and demand more money.

I agree, the lower price was uniform across all countries (whereas the Green Grocer cheaper price was just for Aus) and the increase is uniform as well. There's no way that the pricing department would have made such a huge blunder across ALL countries outside the US. How long has this been available for order? Just over a week? It's very strange. Maybe it's some new method of gauging interest at various pricepoints. I can see that massively increasing the price for those that didn't order early is going to annoy a lot of AFOLs - whether that deters SW fans from buying it I'm not so sure.

ok this is definately not LEGOs best thing. sure it has a bunch of minifigs, but for $399.99USD I dont think its worth it. LEGO sets have been less stuff for more money. and just to say, the first RGS was way better than that piece of junk

I'm glad someone else ranted about this problem. I was one of the lucky ones to order the death star at the original price and I went back to shop at home thinking about getting a second and also grabbing some of the discounted star wars sets they have at the moment for Australians. I filled up my cart and went to checkout and it asked me to update my account, it wouldn't work. I tried it again that night on my home computer and again the same issue. I don't know how they expect to make sales when you can't even check out.

At least with the pre-order of the Millenium Falcon, Lego gave a date by which to order by if you wan't it at the reduced price. I would ask this one thing of Lego at the moment, for one week only reduce the price of the Death Star back down to its original starting price. And I can almost certainly promise you that you can sit back and watch the orders come rolling in. Lets face it Lego making the price of something jump by 32.5% is quite steep. I for one would like to hear Lego's viewpoint on this matter and why no warning was given about this change in price.

I'm confused.

Has the set had an increase in price for the US? svelte_corps said the price increase was uniform, but when I checked S&H it has stayed at 399.99 USD. Was it lower before?

Also, Justin, 399.99 USD for over 3,800 peices and 24 minifigs sounds fair. IMO, a well priced set has around 10 peices for every dollar. (100 peices every ten, 1000 peices every 100, ect.) So, I think it is a good price for what you're getting.

Even though I'm not getting it. I just don't have the money, especially after the clone wars sets.

Sorry, i meant uniform for europe/ uk/ rest of the world, as those prices all were released and then changed at the same time. The US exists in a parallel universe for prices anyway!

Apologies for any confusion.

good idea ... I would pre-order at £200. At £275 I will simply not buy it ... no matter how much i want it.

You have some rights as a customer for on-line buying in Europe. I believe that the ones who ordered in time will get the set at the cheap price, but I'm not 100% sure, since you pay later on. They can't change the price for the fast people, but they can always cansel the order. Anyway, you can always cansel your order yourself, up to one month after payment.

This is what I think: the ones who did pre-order in time will get the set at the 'discount' price, as we did get the order confirmation. In this regard, the term 'confirmation' is quite important, as it implies a reached agreement / contract about product AND price between buyer (us) and seller (TLC).

A one-sided change by the seller, just because the seller wants to change the price, does not make any earlier reached agreements about price and product any less legally binding. And this change in price is not a legally strong enough reason to cancel the order by TLC; it would take something much more drastic to legally allow a breach of contract (like for example, TLC going bankrupt).

Still, it would help if S@H would fix their whole order and account site, because right now, the 'order status' page doesn't work properly and I am unable to see the status of my own 10188 order due to a later order I placed.

Yeah. The Australian price just changed to $629.99. I have pre-ordered two copies already, and have the invoice. :sweet:

Well at this stage the dream is over! and here i thought lego was going to be fair with the USvsAUS $, i guess there may still be a chance on eBay or in 2 years when they clear old stock out of TLG

Poor form LEGO! bring back the $399Aus price :cry_sad:

For sure TLC made a mistake: maybe before, maybe right now, but they made a mistake.

I'm not sure what the problem on LS@H is but I am able to see my order status, having completed the re-registration process a few days ago.

10188 is clearly displayed as being on back order with a September delivery date, the rest of my order having already shipped to me. The price is still displayed as euro269.99 so I am not too worried yet about the possibility of a price hike for those that have ordered.

If anyone has ordered the set and was thinking of cancelling their order due to insufficient funds etc. I'm sure there is now a number of potential customers (outside the US) that would take the set off your hands at close to the original price.

I too completed the re-registration process with succes, but the problem I am encountering is this: when I check my order status I do see the whole row of orders I've made in the past, but when I click on any of them, including the 10188 DS which is still 'in process', I only get to see my most recent order, (which happens to be the discount 7211 Star Destroyer and two bag charms). So I can't actually see any older orders! It also means that even if I wanted to (which I don't) I couldn't cancel the 10188 DS order at the moment...

Does anyone else think it's odd that TLG lists all kinds of brick-built droids as characters, but not the monster Dianoga which is an actual living thing? :look: Just saying...

We should go against this price policy! Let´s go and don´t buy the DS for 400€/630AUD!

As if this would be this hard...

REF set 10188

The following is a copy of an email I have just sent off to legoshop@home.

Feel free to cut /paste and adapt as necessary and send off to the TLG.

Just thought I would share my feelings . I know I am not alone.

"Hi there,

Before I start please don't send an automated reply to me . Please take the time to read what I have to say and reply personally.

As an AFOL an Star Wars enthusiast I thought Xmas had come early with the advent of the new 10188 set at £199.99 last week.

I went online last night to look at it again and saw the astonishing increase in price of 38% to £275.00. I then phoned customer services who informed me that the new price was indeed correct and that had I ordered it last week then I would have got it at that. The girl on the phone informed me that she couldn't really explain why the price had jumped so much . (I got the impression she could but was either unwilling or too embarrased to say..)

Lego - if myself and others had known the price would rocket we would have ordered.. Just check out the negative reaction this is having on forums at Rebelscum.com and Eurobricks.com to name but a few. People now will not buy an over-hiked set.

All we ask is that you play fair.. If we had known of any increase I promise you would have had at least double your current orders for this piece..

Were you just gauging reaction to a set that all Sw fans have been screaming for and realised that you could get more money out of us?

Or was it really a marketing ploy for one week - if so where was the harm in letting the public - your Customers- know?

For 10 years I have collected SW lego and as a completist have spent more than I care to think on bricks ( Check my history if necessary). However I'm sure that i'm not alone in how I feel.

Please Lego I appeal on behalf of all Lego SW fans take the price back down for at least a week and watch the pre-orders pile in.

If nothing else Lego please explain why you can justify a price hike like this overnight.

many thanks for reading and I look forward to your (non-automated) reply."

Like I already mentioned it would take me all my money of the remain of this year (including my money which I earn for working in the summer holidays) - and a price rise of 33,3 % from one week to another is absolutely arrant!

Will the DS then be 500 Euros at the end of July, 600 Euros in the middle of August, 700 Euros at the end of August, ...?!

I'm really disappointed of TLG doing something like that becuase you there could really get the impression that they only want the money of their customers - the contentment and welfare of their customers is for them really minor matter - and I always thought that the contentment and welfare of their customers is for them minimum as important as making profit :cry_sad::sad: !

If TLG would have advance the price about til 30 Euros in November that would have been not nice - but ok. But this is really    !

Does TLG want to anger its customers - mainly the ones (me excluded) which have much money and want to buy all these Exclusives?! And for the customers which would have saved their whole money (me included) to buy it it's totally unfair and shortchanged    !

I hope that TLG will be so wise to low the price to its original price - otherwise I'll surely not buy it!

Thanks for the email, i have also sent one off to S@H to express my dissapointment in the 57% price increase for Australian customers

I agree with all of you, this price increase really came to me as a shock and I think it's unbearable and unfair from TLC.

It will haunt me in my dreams that I did not preorder the very 1st day :sceptic:

I would have spend the 300€s on it tho I as a student don't have so much money to buy many sets like this, but I pretty sure wont spent another 100€s on it. Common TLC how can you just increase the price by 33% over night? That really sucks!
