The Nightwing Reborn Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 2 words: me want! But one problem, i was hoping for a death star gunner like this. Although i must say the quantity of figures is much higher than i imagined. The set itself is better than i expected, seeing as i expected 2 sets that you add together. Hooray For Star Wars! Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 This set is the reason I collect LEGO all in one. This is a masterpeice. Now if they start making other sets like this in comparison life will be complete. Good thing I applied for a second job. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I hope this set does well, so as to warrant a demand for a Hoth base playset done in much the same fashion. Poor Hoth... no one ever gives you a second look. V__V I want that black protocol droid. Quote
Athos Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I wonder if this is the anniversary set? This would be about what I'd have expected for such a set. Steve Quote
Svelte Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 I wonder if this is the anniversary set? This would be about what I'd have expected for such a set.Steve It seems very lavish, doesn't it? It terrifies the mind to think what the 09 anniversary set could possibly be. Maybe a 1:1 scale UCS Han Solo in carbonite Quote
Cyclone Titan Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 No, see, this is hell. You see the beautiful set, but then you see the price... Kind of reminds me of the Greek myth when the guy has to roll a boulder up the hill, but it keeps falling down... Oh yeah... Anyway, a great set by any means, for me its either; 1. Get. 2. Take out all the money in my savings bond. 3. Ask my boss for a raise. Wallet update: I rushed it to the hospital and, sadly, it...it, passed away...buttttttttttt, not the credit card or dollar bills that were in it. Who needs a driver's license anyway?... Officer: you have been speeding sir, may I see your driver's license? Quote
Darth_Legois Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I THINK I JUST FAINTED ON THE KEYBOARD.......THAT HAS TO BE THE MOTHER OF ALL SW SETS!!!!!!!! I HOPE THIS IS OUT BY CHRISTMAS ALSO IS THAT TIE ADVANCED MINI-FIG SCALE!!! Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Maybe a properly done Jabba's Palace with Rancor Or a huge Ewok Village, or a Jedi Temple, or Geonosis Arena, or........... So many possibilities now that TLG has raised there set standards Quote
Tacitus Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 It's hard to tell, but doesn't the new Emperor head look like a gray version of one of those Harry Potter mandrake plant-heads? Quote
radiant7 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 My breath has literally been taken away. I went to the Eurobricks forums link first like I usually do, saw a snippet of text relating to the Death Star, said "no way" in my head, went to the frontpage and WHAM, Death Star playset out of nowhere. Holy hell, that is one amazing set. This is exactly what we had all imagined it to be, but even bigger!. I mean, I think everyone who has been following the Death Star playset discussion knew that it would contain some key scenes from the OT, but this is just so completely over-the-top. It's like TLC read our minds and had the exact same ideas. The price is stunning but it doesn't actually bother me that much. USD$400 is only about $430AUD. Buy it from ebay, factor in USPS shipping, and it should only set us Aussies back about $550 max. You would be insane to consider buying this on Shop@Home if you're an Aussie. Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Is it just me or is Darth Vader taller then the other figures. I was comparing him and Obi Wan and it looks liek Darth Vaders legs are longer. Quote
AFOL SF Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 To svelte_corps... thanks a bunch for posting and sharing these images. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) Couldn't be any better really. All of the scenes, all of the minifigs... perfect. I don't think that the TIE fighter is to scale though. The cockpit is made of a 4x4 dish, while the normal ones usually use this larger piece: It still looks like a minifig will be able to fit in though, there is a hinge at the bottom allowing it to be opened up. Just when I thought I might manage to make it through 2008... Thanks for the pictures, svelte_corps Edited June 17, 2008 by TinyPiesRUs Quote
hollisbrick Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 IT'S..IT..its beautiful So many figs in one set! Kudos to TLG But there is no way I'll be able to afford this But just seeing these pics have made my day!(yes I do have a life )I wish though that TLG released them in bits like Jabba's palace except bigger! Have to bricklink some of those figs!!! 08 is bloody awsome so far! Quote
dunamis Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Wow, I'm impressed - this looks fantastic! Can't wait to build this thing. It's gotta be 2,000+ pieces. Seems like LEGO went out of their way to cram every possible thing any Star Wars LEGO fan has ever asked for in this set. Very well done! Quote
M'Kyuun Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Wow. This is above and beyond. Wish there was a Death Star Gunner in there instead of Stormtrooper Luke or Han, but that's the only fault I can find. I expected something on par with Cloud City; I've never been happier to be wrong! This really should have been a milestone set, as it'll be nigh impossible to outdo this set for all its attention to detail, playability, features (love the little Advanced TIE..it's the icing on the cake), and bevy of highly detailed mini-figs. Finally, a fully painted dome on R2! This would have been a brilliant high note to end the license; that we're getting something this well designed in mini-fig scale, no less, in addition to the UCS MF, really makes me wonder what other incredible sets like this are being talked about or are already in the design phase. Sets like this are the reason LEGO is and ever shall be my hands down favorite passtime and brand name. They've come a long way from the original X-Wing #7140. Can't wait to see what they make next! LEGOscum Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I'm wondering if this is a nod to the Expanded Universe where IG-88 uploaded himself into the Death Star II computer, taking the weapon over just before the Alliance blew it up It's not. I've got the press release for ths set and it isn't IG-88 at all. But it does look like him. Jeremy Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Absolutely spectacular! I had always thought that Lego could build a Death Star playset similar to the old Hasbro one which I actually still own. Here's a picture: I had even thought about building one over the years, but never thought I had enough pieces to do it justice. This is even better in the shape of the Death Star. I'm not a big fan of the high-ticket sets, but this one is a must buy for any Lego SW fan (even for any SW fan). Can't wait to see the real thing. Any idea of a release date? (unless I missed it in a previous thread). Thank you so much for sharing on EB Svelte Corps. I really look forward to this set! EDIT: Interesting that the box does not have a piece count. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) Just threw a quick TIE together based on the pic...it'll fit a fig, if just barely. Can't wait for this set. My thanks to Svelte Corps for the pics; today, the Earth reached environmental equilibrium, peace erupted in the Middle East, hospitals across the globe shut down due to lack of business, oil is free, and every person on earth woke up this morning with an inkling that something earthshaking was about to be revealed, and now all the world's governments have reached an accord under the banner "Leg Godt". Seems like LEGO went out of their way to cram every possible thing any Star Wars LEGO fan has ever asked for in this set. Very well done! 2000+ ? are you kidding, usally (basing from UCS falcon, UCS star distroyer, UCS Deathstar) just stick an extra 0 on the price and thats usally within 500 peices of the total peice count so this beauty will have over 4000 bits nd bobs This baby is HUGE!!! I can't wait to see this thing for real!!! Although, i'm not quite sure about the outside though, it looks incomplete (i wonder why? HAHA) i think i will mod this with my DSII and give it a fold out outside. :0) And i was just thinking "without buying all the clone wars sets where will all my money go? and now i have the answer..." :-) Edited June 17, 2008 by legoman Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 $399.99 USDI'm curious as to where you get your pics from? Well on the old Lego price conversion system that’ll make it £399.99, so sadly I think I’ll be missing this set, well unless I can get it when I’m next in the States and can get it home. As for the set there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said already it’s amazing! My only complaint is that the fleet troopers don’t have a new helmet mould, but that’s so very minor. Quote
Hewman Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 And i was just thinking "without buying all the clone wars sets where will all my money go? and now i have the answer..." :-) Either the Lego company is very clever and worked out there are two distinct markets for their sets, 1. kids who will watch the new clone wars show and 2. AFOLs who love original trilogy sets...Or the sales of the clone wars sets are going to take one mighty hit as people save their $s or euros or pounds for this beautiful piece of art. Quote
KimT Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 This is probably one of the best sets of the Star Wars theme. Super combination of playability and design. All those sweet minifigs. This is definately a must have set. May the Force be with You. KimT Quote
