With the exception of the UCS sets, which are obviously heavily tilted to the OT, that's actually not as out-of-whack as I might have expected. Lumping in the TV series and anthology movies with their respective trilogies, seems you would get 156 PT-era (incl. CW and BB), 158 OT-era (incl. Solo, Rebels, RO, and Mando), and 44 ST-era System sets. Edited November 23, 2021 by jdubbs Quote

We all know there have been more OT UCS sets than PT sets. It's probably because more older fans tend to be able to afford larger sets? Whatever the reason, it is a given there are way more more OT UCS sets. Hopefully as more PT fans get into their 30's and have more money we will see more PT UCS sets over the next decade or so? So the question then comes down to normal size/price point, system scale type sets. As a fan I tend to consider TCW sets and Prequel sets similarly because they are from the same time frame and contain a lot of the same features (clone troopers/vehicles etc). The question I asked in the previous post was: "What would the chart look like with TCW and PT combined?" Here is the answer using the above numbers: OT:119 PT/CW: 155 I'm surprised by that given how vocal some people are about it being the other way. Though there is the point that the PT/TCW sets came out mostly a long time ago when those shows/movies were current. That's where the chart on the previous page is helpful because it broke it down by year. I wonder what it would look like if we combined PT/TCW sets but only included the last 10 years so we got a much more recent perspective? It's hard to estimate just looking at that chart. Quote

Yes, Solo is midway between the PT and OT, but the aesthetic is definitely OT, and it is Empire, which is how a lot of people define OT. Mando likewise could be OT or ST but being closer chronologically to the OT and using the same Stormtroopers, TIEs, etc., it seems much more OT than ST. That gets you to 158 OT sets, on par with the PT. Quote

I'm not sure disney era movie sets should be considered with standard OT sets? But it is an opinion. I thought it was a lot less watered down to simply included standard/system scale OT vs PT/TCW and leave all the extra...opinion based...sets out of it. That seems to be the best way to represent what is being talked about to me. (Though like I mentioned I'm curious about what that would look like for the last 10 years specifically). I think more people would object to calling the CW Venator (with its creepy CW-eyed Palpatine fig) a PT set, than would object to calling the RO AT-ST an OT set. Especially since several of the RO and Solo sets were recognizable OT vehicles, just with RO/Solo characters... Also, a lot of the CW's unique designs were pretty "out there"... farther out there than the RO/Solo/Rebels designs went... if anything I think people would say CW should stay its own thing. Quote

I feel you on the big eyed TCW figures. I was never a fan of the big eyes and actually replaced some of those heads (but the ones with the face printing hidden behind a helmet were good). But again now we are bringing opinions into it. I seems like breaking it down the way I did was the most impartial imo. Quote

The thing is we don't know what you counted as a set. Is Bespin Duel a set to you? Or 20th anniversary Obi wan polybag? It ends up being impartial no matter what we count/ don't count. Lot of sets are also in the gray area like this years R2-D2, some people won't even accept darth vader's helmet as OT cause it's techically in the ST and for few seconds in the PT. Quote

Kdapt-Preacher Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Looks like other folks have covered this pretty thoroughly already, but the R1, Solo, Rebels, etc sets weren't included in the numbers in my chart at all. I literally just used the numbers listed for each category on Bricklink without making any attempt to discern which items to count as sets, so that wouldn't include any Brickheadz or polybag models but would include some other random stuff that someone who was being more careful probably wouldn't count (some Celebration exclusive models, for example), so @PreVizsla's specific numbers are almost certainly better than mine. It does seem like there has perhaps been more complaints than the numbers would warrant, but in fairness there really haven't been all that many PT/CW sets in the past few years, especially before last year. I think that's where the feeling that PT fans were getting stiffed comes from, and while the notion that Lego has been purposely avoiding the PT is clearly false, it is also objectively true that it hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as OT has for the last few years. From Lego's perspective it made sense to do that since they were primarily focused on the new movies. They knew OT was always a good fallback if the new sets didn't sell, so that's why the rest of the line-up tended to lean that way. Hopefully know that there aren't as many movies releasing we'll start to see a better mix of the trilogies. Quote
jdubbs Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 1 hour ago, Mandalorianknight said: That's....the numbers are almost the same...why are people complaining? Well. Some people are complaining because unlike the System sets, the UCS/D2C/MBS sets are heavily skewed to the OT. Which is a valid point, but perhaps one that will improve for PT fans if the Gunship sells well enough. And then some people are complaining because while the overall numbers of PT vs. OT System sets are comparable, over the more recent (say, 5-10) years, it's more heavily skewed to OT sets... which is hard on anyone who wasn't collecting back when the PT sets were prevalent. Which is also a valid point. But then, I suspect a few people are complaining just to complain... and here, the real test will come if/when we ever see a solid wave of PT sets. If people are still complaining then, well, we'll know whether they'll ever be satisfied, or just want to complain for the sake of complaining. Quote

Bobbtom Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) Are we really going to retread this. The fact that a basic character like captain rex is currently $130 on bricklink speaks for itself. Unlike someone random like finch dallow. You already knew that but just couldn't resist it as always. You may be fortunate enough that you already have most of the desirable figures and sets from the TCW/prequel heavy era from almost 10 years ago, but many people, especially kids do not. Rex is a major character in three different mediums now, whereas I had no idea who Finch Dallow was until learning of the insane bricklink aftermarket prices. I don't even remember if he had more than one minute of screen time;. I don't even know that he was ever even named on-screen. Exclusives like the SDCC ones from years ago never really bothered me because we usually could buy different versions of the characters in normal sets. If an adult collector wanted to pay the insane after market prices for them, then more power to them. But now we have mainstay figures selling for well above $100 and no official re-release in sight 3 minutes ago, TeddytheSpoon said: The fact that Captain Rex costs $130 is down to collectors though, not to the market demand for toys. Not many Finches around, collectors want finch, price ticks up. To bring up Bionicle again, it's an excellent example of this. No G1 sets in nearly 10 years, and as it gains fans (despite not having any sets or media released), the price of sets and masks becomes absurd. 6 hours ago, TeddytheSpoon said: The fact that Captain Rex costs $130 is down to collectors though, not to the market demand for toys. Dude, Zeb is my White Whale. He's the last one I need to complete the crew. Also, you're correct, the aftermarket is a terrible way to judge demand on what is overall focused on kids. Examples include Zeb, who would make some adult rebels fans happy but most kids wouldn't even know him. The AT-OT and Dropship set is what, a thousand dollars, and wouldn't sell nearly as well as an AT-TE or AT-AT. Hell, look at bionicle. The golden Kanohi Ignika (A single mask part) is anywhere between $100-300 alone, not to mention the set it came in. Even much less iconic masks like a lime Rau are around $50. TLDR Secondhand demand doesn't necessarily translate into a set selling well now. There are instances, like Rex, where it very well might, but others like the AT-OT where it definately wouldn't. Also for the Rex Gangtm , i've got a tip for getting him. The helmet's like $5, and then you just need a pauldron (I think the death trooper ones were $2 ish last I checked), and a 501st body. It's not perfect, but it's a LOT better than shelling out apparently over a hundred dollars.
