NoOneOfImportance Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Does anyone think this new piece could be used for holograms? Quote
Inevitable Thanos Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 I saw that new, I think it was a force ghost piece, on Instagram. It had a Qui gon minifigure inside of it, I like the idea of it also alternatively being used for like a hologram Leia or something. So wait, are we getting a new Dagobah set? Quote

It's a new piece that is rumored to first be coming in a new Dagobah set releasing in May. The Dagobah set is an 18+ diorama. Previously known info is that the set is roughly 40 studs wide (if I remember correctly), and it has the hut with some of the tree, the water with an x-wing wing coming out of it, and Yoda, Luke, and R2-D2 figures. It is one of three "quotes" sets coming in May time-frame - "quotes" sets being those that have a 2x6 tile with a quote from that movie scene on the black diorama including the scene (similar to the T. Rex Breakout from the Jurassic Park line that is coming April 26). The other quotes sets are the Death Star Trash Compactor and the Death Star Trench Run. Quote

Although the images also don’t show a brick separator, which should definitely be there at the price point, so maybe they don’t have the final images, or just don’t show every piece in the first image. (Like they don’t show brick separators on the first helmet set images) But I’m still fairly certain it won’t be there. If the Force Ghost Piece is legitimate, that’s an interesting way of doing it, although it means they’d need to make another mould for Yoda. I don’t dislike the overall look, but the lack of flexibility is a bit annoying, specifically for Obi-Wan on Dagobah. Quote

Kdapt-Preacher Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 That piece has the LEGO trademark bit, which is there explicitly to make it an enormous pain to fake, so I definitely think it's real in the sense that it actually exists and came out of a LEGO factory. Bear in mind, though, that doesn't mean that it's going to be used to make a Force ghost, or that it will appear in any given upcoming set. Prototype pieces cast in random colors do pop up occasionally, like those red Darth Vader helmets you see around sometimes. It certainly could be a Force ghost, but it's also conceivable that that mold was created for something else entirely and won't even be widely produced in trans light blue. Quote
Nobricksleft Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Because QGJ is shown in the force ghost piece, someone suggested it could be from an upcoming Kenobi set. Quote

Like, normally leak photos have extremely poor, grainy picture quality and almost never have multiple angles. These have both bene pictures on a clear, white background with an HD camera in good lighting, they're staged correctly (another thing that makes this different from most leaks - many of them are assembled wrong or just sort of thrown together haphazardly, these are on baseplates and stuff like that), and these are two very highly requested items (Kaminoan and Force Ghost). I think both of these make sense as things to include in sets coming up, and this Force Ghost piece does look very legitimate, but I'm also really confused about all of this. Quote

The quality of them is both evidence for the leak (there is a copyright thing on the ghost) and against it. Honestly I'd be more likely to believe the ghost one if it didn't come from the kaminoan leaker, since I'm 99% sure that the kaminoan figure is fake. Quote

They probably would not choose him anyway as the first character to feature this new piece. For the effect to be convincing I think the colors of the minifig need to be adjusted. But still, a QGJ cameo in Kenobi seems too good to pass up. I know Liam said he wasn't approached but his jedi mind tricks don't work on me. Edited February 26, 2022 by Nobricksleft Quote
ToaDraco Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 If that piece is real, that has to be the most bizarre and disappointing way to do force ghosts. I would vastly have preferred opaque figures using sand blue and dark blue. Not only does this look incredibly strange but the figure can't move or do anything stuck inside that peice. Quote

If true, im mixed. I mean it would allow you to use the fig as normal and force ghost, as well as making others into this new format, however the look........ Would have to see in person. It's a different attempt for sure! Quote
MaximillianRebo Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 As a concept I like the idea of using a single moulded piece for force ghosts (or, well, any ghosts). Aside from the apparent breakage issues with transparent minifig parts, doing it this way opens the door for just about any (humanoid) figure to be represented as a force ghost - except maybe Togruta, Twi'leks etc. Even custom figs. Going the transparent fig route would mean being restricted to only the figs which TLG chooses to release in this style, and whatever paywalls they are behind. Quote
Borex Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 I really think it’s a smart way to give us force ghosts. Lego listened to us, and eventually they should have given us force ghosts so this is a good way. Even the reusability here is great. Of course they look a bit unposable, but did obi one kenobi do that much there besides standing there? If they throw in an Obi in white or light blue it will even look better Quote

We know the fig selection already and Obi Wan wasn’t there. That being said, I’ve been wrong a fair bit lately. Actually going back through the films, there are only like 4 places where force ghosts appear, right? Twice on Dagobah, at Endor, and in RoS. Sooo….IF this is real AND it’s not used in Dabobah, THEN I would be more likely to believe an Endor set may be in development AT SOME POINT. BUT, I’m still not totally inclined to believe that it would be, it would just lend an entirely unconfirmed theory a tiny bit of credence. I don’t think it was ever definitely stated that we were only getting Luke, R2 and Yoda, just that those were the only “for sure” ones and thus were the only ones listed. I remember that with Luke’s X-Wing from 2021, only he and R2 were initially rumored. 5 hours ago, Nobricksleft said: Because QGJ is shown in the force ghost piece, someone suggested it could be from an upcoming Kenobi set. I don’t doubt that he’ll make an appearance, I hope so especially because I just finished reading Master and Apprentice and really enjoy the character, but what I do doubt is that he’d come in a Lego set so soon. I doubt Lego would know about Qui-Gon being in the show beforehand and even if they did, I don’t see them prioritizing him over more “cool, playable” characters like whatever Inquisitors we get in this show. I have mixed feelings on the piece itself. I don’t think it looks bad, but I don’t feel that it looks particularly “ghosty” (which was likely deliberate so that Lego can use the piece in other scenarios) and I also think the lack of posability is a missed opportunity. How are we supposed to recreate the ICONIC scene of Obi-Wan sitting on a log in ROTJ? Also, would this piece work for Yoda with his ears and short height? Will they have to make a whole separate mold just to do a Yoda ghost from ROTJ or TLJ? Seems like a bit of a waste imo. My preferred method for doing Force Ghosts would have been to do the Ghost minifigs like the 2020 Moaning Myrtle figure from Harry Potter. Still, like I mentioned, I don’t think this looks bad and I think that it’s cool that you can get a normal and Force Ghost version of the character. This will likely be used for Ben Kenobi in the upcoming Dagobah set, hopefully we get Anakin and Yoda’s ghosts down the line, plus Luke and Leia’s spirits from TROS. Playing devil’s advocate though, how do we know for sure this is supposed to be a Force Ghost piece and not just a non-specific transparent piece, or rather how do we know that Lego is planning to use this new piece for Force Ghosts? I mean, it works like the Han Solo Carbonite mold, but besides that, what about it makes it seem likely to be used for Star Wars? Edited February 26, 2022 by The Stud Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Honestly, not a fan of this piece. Minifigures aren't posable, and they also aren't ghosts when you see their back, are they? It may be a good solution for display sets, like Dagobah, but I really would've preferred if they just printed them on light blue or bright light blue minifigure pieces. Quote

It's been a while since I looked at it but I was also under the impression they were leaking the idea of a Kaminoan minidoll rather than outright saying that THAT specific figure was the real deal. Something about their wording (and the wording of their previous post). As for the force ghost, I like the idea in theory, but not really in practice. Sure, you can use the piece on nearly any figure, but realistically there are only 2/3 force ghost figures you'd need at any given time (5 if you want to play/display in the post TRoS era), and this piece doesn't even work for the most prominent one. As such, I also think specific minifigures would work better. Transparent pieces would be cool, but unnecessary, since Yoda wasn't depicted as such the last time we saw him anyway. Plus, thinking about the second hand market, if you want to buy multiples of this piece, and it's only in one set (for the time being) I could see the price being quite high when seller realise it's in demand. Especially with the way second hand SW Lego has shot up recently. Would be more convenient to just do a set with the main three force ghosts in some time down the line. Quote

TeddytheSpoon Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 I'm not sold on this as a solution to force ghosts. Aside from the fact you can't really pose the figures, it also makes them look *enormous* because of the weird proportions that minifigures have. A dedicated figure would have worked much better, IMO. Quote
Kim-Kwang-Seok Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 if it is SW the cool thing would be I guess that you can put any figure with compact hairstyles. Still I don't see the sense of the mold -> master Yoda already you could not put because of legs and ears. I think a light blue figure, different blue for the hairpiece and transparent legs would be all you need. They don't need to play around ugly transparent arms or torsos anyway. Legs are enough! Better if they'd have used this mold budget for new Mando helmets, jetpacks and darksaber Quote
