Wrong. There is still Ra's, Talia, Hush, Ventriloquist and Black Mask are all major Batman baddies.

*cough*Maxie Zeus*cough*

On a note that won't cheese Batbrick off, I think it would be rather stupid of Lego to drop the Batman license at this time. It appeals to a lot more people than a few of the other licenses - comic book fans are not going to be giddy over the release of more Spongebob sets, for example. Lego Batman just came out a few months ago, not to mention The Dark Knight will still be in a bunch of people's heads next year.

This is very disappointing because I had hoped to get the Tumbler for Christmas this year.

It looks like the sets that are getting discontinued in January are already starting to leave S@H

...I'd like to see a Bat-Snowmobile...

Isn't the Batsled some sort of an oversized snowmobile? Ok, it runs on skids and there are no crawler tracks, but it was made for snow, wasn't it?

Anyway, I, too, think it's a little bit odd, that at the time when the Batman Video Game hit the shelves, nearly none of the Lego Batman products could be bought anymore (and the whole line now seems to be discontinued, but who knows for sure).

The game refreshed the interest in Lego Batman, so it looks like bad timing for me...

I agree, that is so stupid of TLC! :hmpf_bad:

I never got around to getting a black Batman fig. :cry_sad: I really hope that they will restock on some of these. :sceptic:

This is so sad. :cry_sad: There goes one of the best themes ever... :sadnew:

Besides, as I have said before, how is TLC going to make a dummy? :sceptic:

Mould one?

A villain who's second-rate at best.

It is. There's nothing to say a snowmobile has to have tracks. Besides, it's Batman's... he'll have devised some clever way for it to run without tracks.

Guys, I have some very disappointing news. Earlier today, I was calling various Lego Stores in the U.S. looking for #7888 The Tumbler set. It wasn't until I got a hold of the Mall of America store that I cam across something dreadful. I told the lady I was in search of a Lego Batman set, and before I could say anymore, she told me that the Batman line had been discontinued.

I'm sorry folks, but it appears that Batman is no more, in some sense. I guess the lack of rumors for 2009 sets is some proof for this.

Why?! WHY?! That's not fair! Release LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEO GAME and then immediately discontinue the theme? This is...... :hmpf_bad::cry_sad::angry:

Well, I got this info from only one Lego employee. It may be false, or it may be true. Right now, despite only getting one confirmation, there is still other forms of proof, such as lack of rumors for 09 and watching sets quickly disappear from shelves.

I was right all along!

And you're proud of it? Do the people that are actually upset about this news a favour and don't act like a smart alec.

Anyway this is a sad day for me, I'll ust have to buy decals from people then to make custom figs. Still, I maintain hope that even if the Batman line ends, future lines will yield good fleshie faces for Batcharacters.

Batbrick Away!

I agree with BB! How the hell are you proud of being right about this!!!!!!

I haven't even got a set yet which I have been planning to do for a while, I guess that now is a better time than ever :sceptic::cry_sad: And I really wanted to get the Joker in a cheap set :cry_sad::sadnew::hmpf_bad:

I am actually quite sad about this

Batman will be discontinued? WHAT?! C'mon, we need.... Well. Okay. They did a lot of the major villains and most of the iconic Batman costumes. But still... Bummer, man.

Harry Potter gone, Batman gone... What are we getting in return? Don't say Indy, we have that one already. And Star Wars has been running since I was 10, so that one is a given too. Licences die pretty fast these days. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last two years we've seen the death of these lines:

- Harry Potter (apparently)

- Batman (apparently)

- Spiderman even though there was a third film

- Avatar

- Speed racer but granted: that was a one-off deal anyway

What remains? Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Spongebob. Now, SW and Indy I love, but do we need Spongebob? Okay, I'm an AFOL, so my perspective is different than that of the main target group. But dang... Good thing Castle and Indy are going strong, or - dare I say it - my Second Dark Ages would be coming very soon.

I was afraid this would happen, and I'm honestly not surprised. In all reality, the Batman license could only continue for so long the way TLC was doing it. And TLC's way of handling the line was to make it totally dependant on Batman's arensal of vehicles. Heroes, villians, locations, they all pale compared to vehicles in kids eyes, and there's only so many bat-whatevers you can make. :sceptic:

In foresight, it may have pleased some people for TLC to focus far more on locations and characters, but modern day American kids (who TLC has been considering the target audience for years now) care far more about crazy vehicles and gadgets, which is why we will probably never see another superhero license. Spiderman failed because the webslinger doesn't go well with vehicles. Harry Potter failed because its buildings and magical creatures didn't really excite 8-11 year olds nearly as much as the X-wings and Tie fighters of Starwars. And now Batman, while not necessarily a failure, has exausted itself.

I know, it's a shame, but what are you going to do when the core of Lego's current products is vehicle based? :sadnew:

No...

This is terrible news. When we first heard that Lego would be making Batman sets, I was over the moon. I mean, Lego and comics, two of my biggest passions, combined into one. If we assume the death of the line was because no-one was buying the sets, then perhaps that could have been rectified by actually making the sets available somewhere other that S@H. At least, that was the case over here.

But, at least we can be pleased with what we did get. We got all the top villains, a wonderful Batman figure, and some genuine geek-based fun. How often can we say that? Plus we got one of the best computer games I've ever played.

Trouble is... we didn't even get Gordon. :cry_sad:

Well, we all know that TLG is done with Batman, but here is another confirmation - Matt, owner and webmaster of the Legions of Gotham website posted this the other day:

"LEGO has confirmed for me that they are no longer making Batman product. They did indicate that the future is open, but for now they are done.

Is it POSSIBLE that we'll see more from LEGO? Yes. After all, they also denied that they were going to make any Dark Knight related product as well..but we know how that turned out."

It's a pity that TLG pulled the plug when Batman is about to celebrate his 70th anniversary. And looking at the minifigs in the LEGO Batman video game that never made it into sets is kinda sad (no Batgirl or Commissioner Gordon LEGO?). Still it's nice that they've left the door open for the future - here's hoping for a GCPD headquarters in 2010.

That's completely awful!

How could they have closed such a great theme after such a great computer game! :cry_sad: We have no Gordon, no Batgirl, no new villains, no scenes.... That's totally.... can't find a word for that....

We got LEGO BATMAN, DC vs Mortal combat, we are expecting Arkham Asylum and DC on-line.... TLC what on earth is your marketing department doing! That's such a great opportunity and you fail to see it!

That indeed is disturbing.... Well, I guess, we fans will have to pick up what other themes give us.... But as Brainbox has correctly said, TLC had discontinued most good-for-batman themes.... No HP heads, no normal SW heads, no nice City vehicles....

Good day, gentlemen! ) :sceptic:
