Especially the soft finish with 'no hard feelings'! Quote
SNIPE Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 I have noticed that the instructions are STILL not available on legos website, yet the Vespa instructions are available. Could this mean anything?. Perhaps a parts mold change or even single part change (kinda like how the the 6x6 tile was replaced with three 2x6 tiles in the UCS batmobile). Really want to build this then add a gearbox but its out of stock all over the place :( I also want my lego promotional set! Quote
AVCampos Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Maybe the set will be redesigned to avoid having the front springs constantly under strain? Quote

LegoHoops Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) The McLaren F1 car finally arrived, got it together over the weekend with a few small mods - still a work in progress. Assembled without the ugly wheel covers too. It’s a big 1:8 car along side my other 1:8 fleet. Edited April 3, 2022 by LegoHoops Quote
Johnny1360 Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Like that little opening, to watch the pistons. Quote
Pato Sentado Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Seems that the real one is not a great thing neither... Quote
langko Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 @LegoHoops flex axle halo looks much cleaner! Glad someone added a proper steering wheel to the model as well. The changes with the little panels to the sides behind the front wheels looks much better too. 6 hours ago, Pato Sentado said: Seems that the real one is not a great thing neither... jonwil Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 I heard rumors that the McLaren is being pulled because of licensing issues related to the fact that the livery doesn't actually match what's on the car that Riccardo and Norris are driving. Would explain why the instructions aren't available and why the set seems to be out of stock (or removed completly or in a couple cases "comming soon") from all the major retailers I checked across multiple countries. Really? What a mess if true. I hope it's just under supply and they're bringing them back. Despite the mismatch of 2022 shape vs 2021 livery, I do quite like it and wanted to get one. Quote

The livery would have been designed very late in the day so I’d be surprised if that was an issue. Sponsor names could be a problem if they’re different from 2021 to 2022, sorry I’ve not looked in detail. but you could fix that by changing the stickers. Quote

These wheels are so super ugly and out of place themselves, so for me it doesn´t make any difference. 3 hours ago, jonwil said: I heard rumors that the McLaren is being pulled because of licensing issues related to the fact that the livery doesn't actually match what's on the car that Riccardo and Norris are driving. Are you kidding me ? But of course that would be consistent with the TLG desastrous policy, remember the Osprey and the postponement of the UCS supercar. For me that looks like bad karma series or subversion within the HQ. It´s funny entertainment anyway. Edited March 26, 2022 by brunojj1 Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted March 26, 2022 Author Posted March 26, 2022 It's getting a redesign. The changes are mostly in the stickers. Quote
allanp Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Would have been a nice opportunity to make a few other changes, like printed tyres, HOG steering and a more authentic two stages of gear reduction for the final drive (for a faster engine speed), and maybe some representation of the large radiators so it doesn't feel quite as empty. On the other hand, it did appear to be selling quite well as is. But was that just the initial sales spike you get with most sets, or was it lack of availability that made it hard to get? Quote
captainmib Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 That's the problem with formula 1. Cars are changed almost every race. Hope TLG learns from this... Are they going to change it again when a sponsor retreats? And why would TLG care about that anyway. They made a product, it's done. Or would this be in the contract? Seems unlikely... Quote
williamyzfr1 Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) if you look on Lego.com/uk the model is out of stock but the product picture shows the updated decals applied. They have not updated the box picture yet though. You can compare the differences by looking at the same picture on Amazon.co.uk which is currently in stock to purchase with the old decals. I guess the box picture and instruction manual would also have to be changed for the revised model. EDIT Online Lego Building Instructions are available for download with revised decals. jonwil Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) Looking at the comparison picture (and at the sticker sheet images on Bricklink), the logo missing from the nose of the car appears to be Miory Steel who appear to be based in Belarus. Maybe all that's going on in that part of the world is why that logo has to go. (I don't see that logo on the 2022 design so maybe McLaren themselves dropped the sponsorship) The missing logo on the side of the car seems to be Bitci who were dropped by McLaren sometime in February for reasons that I can't find on Google. The missing logo on the rear wing appears to be Buzz (who I can't find anything much about with a Google search) As for the wheels, I would be surprised that they are changing given that the supposed "new" image still has Pirelli logos on it elsewhere and given that the Speed Champions Mercedes F1 car has the same blue Pirelli detailing on its wheels and I haven't heard of that being discontinued or affected (although I do notice that the Mercedes says "cinturato" and not P Zero like the McLaren, can't find an image of the actual blue-writing wet weather Pirelli tyre for 2022 to confirm what Pirelli actually call it) Edited March 26, 2022 by jonwil Quote
jonwil Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 A check of the wayback machine shows that a snapshot of the McLaren F1 product page did have as its main image the image with the original stickers (the same image you get if you look at the set page on Brickset as of right now) so that seems to confirm that the image was changed by LEGO at some point recently. SNIPE Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) So, are the changes only in the decals? I have an original version I think. Edited March 26, 2022 by SNIPE Quote
jonwil Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Some further googling lead me to a McLaren sponsors page that doesn't list Miory Steel, Bitci or Buzz. Quote

I ordered from Amazon UK yesterday so I wonder which version I will receive, seems the advertised box picture remains unchanged on Lego & Amazon but the model photos removed "Bitch" from day one on both Lego and Amazon model. photographs.
