I watched all 14 episodes of season 3 on the ITV HUB streaming service in the UK.

Ah, I've had a vague interest in the show but didn't know where to watch it.

But I've used the itv service before, to watch Ninjago seabound, so I guess I now know where to look.

Saw the Special Embrace your destiny.

Spoiler

Honestly with how threatening they made Lady Bone Demon in Season 2. She felt a bit lacking in this special. I get why. Monkie King went all out on her. But even after it felt more her resisting than putting up a fight. Still waiting for a way to watch Season 3 in English. But I do have the gist of the plot thanks to subtitles.

Also wondering why the DBK and his family stopped being antagonistic. They wanted the staff to be all powerful in Season 1. Now they just live out their lives?

ITV hub has all the episodes in English. You just have to endure the ads.

Regarding DBK and his family... DBK being possessed by the Lady Bone Demon at the end of Season 1 (and being freed by MK and friends) put a pause on their ambitions, and that combined with Monkey King and MK freeing DBK from the Spider Queen at the beginning of Season 2 created an uneasy truce between them.

I don't doubt that DBK and Princess Iron Fan could potentially have future schemes that put them at odds with the heroes, especially now that the bigger threat of Lady Bone Demon is dealt with. But on the same token a new antagonist rising to fill that niche would probably narratively result in DBK remaining a minor foe/tentative ally for the time being.

Set-wise, I wouldn't mind seeing DBK and Princess Iron Fan return since all of the sets with them have now been retired. Their palace on Accumulated Thunder Mountain (as seen in Season 3) would make a fantastic set, and it would be neat to get a version of DBK that's more bigfig-sized or smaller, to use in a wider variety of scenes. But I don't know how likely that is with them not being the primary antagonists anymore, especially since the Trans. Fluorescent Orange color that was so key to the bull clan's color scheme in the first year is now retired. I guess we'll never know until we see a set like that released or the theme ends (whichever should come first).

Just finished, oh wow that was good. Whilst im not 100% satisfied with the ending, I do think it was the best option. I'm also grateful they didn't forget everything, Macaques mech came back, the spider crew had their ghosts come back for a couple of seconds, and mainly they didn't forget the girl who was possessed at the end of season 2. Honestly I was expecting her to just be gone, maybe merged with the bone demon, but no, she gets saved, by Macaque no less. Really glad how he was handled in the finale, in season 3 he felt kinda forced, just the producers playing into fan service, but now he's just good old macaque. Defiantly a fan of how he kinda watched from the shadows in the first half, and then in the second half he went all in. Also a fan of Pigsy and his ping pong bats, and how Tang finally realises who he is and who the gang represent. I do hope we get more story telling, as the theme will continue, maybe with the girl who was possessed? I could see that becoming its own thing, how she's already had access to power? Either way, im happy the story has happened, and I think it was definitely one of the best shows that has come from The LEGO Group!

So out of curiosity has anybody gotten or at least ordered the new sets yet? I had thought they were supposed to release at the start of this month in Europe, but haven't seen any reviews or even just pictures posted on social media.

I know @DuckBricks has obtained all 3, excited to see the reviews when they come up. I do agree though, I haven't seen any reviews. sadly my current situation is limiting any spending on lego at all. I would say I'm definitely gonna pick up the van but I said that with flower fruit mountain, city of lanterns and the monkie mech, so I'm gonna keep my mouth shut till I can get my hands on these other sets. Any idea on when they will be retired?

So far, the remaining 2020/2021 monkie kid retirement seems to all be at end of year, and the only 2022 set that'll probably retire is Mei's Dragon Car.

Off topic from the sets, sorry. But I've just seen series 1 and A hero is born, but when in the order should I watch revenge of the spider queen, I tried searching online but I'm struggling to find where it's supposed to be?

Revenge of the Spider Queen is between Season 1 and Season 2. Overall the watch order goes like this:

  1. A Hero is Born (S1 special)
  2. Season 1
  3. Revenge of the Spider Queen (S2 special)
  4. Season 2
  5. Season 3
  6. Embrace Your Destiny (S3 special)

By the way, on the topic of the TV series... in some sad news, the English VA for Macaque, Billy Kametz, passed away the other day. His voice work really breathed life into one of the show's more complex and emotionally nuanced characters, so his passing hits especially hard.

Thats really sad. I agree, his work was definetly one of the best. I wish the best for his family and friends.

In some areas the Embrace Your Destiny Special is broken up into episodes 11-14 of Season 3 (That's how I watched it anyway) so if you can't find the special, maybe search for the episodes?

Looking at The Heavenly Realms and Flower Fruit Mountain sets, which are arguably more Journey To The West than straight up Monkie Kid... I hope they do at least one more big set in that style. Like a Demon Mountain from the book would be awesome, they could include The Rhino King, Scorpion Demoness and Goldfish Demon from the cartoon episodes, a minifig DBK, Yin and Jin (since they only came in 1 set so far) with their female co-worker, and the 5 original pilgrims from the book that are shown in the show. Maybe even Guanyin, she kind of appeared as an image in the show.

Ah, thank you. To be honest I had pretty low expectations for the show going in, but I'm pleasantly surprised that they have definitely been surpassed.

Finally bought the City of Lanterns and the Evil Macaque Mech. :D

Ordered it last night to get the Forest Hideout as GWP, perfect!

And next time we`ll get duoble VIP points, the other MK sets from W1 of 2022 are next.

nice! I wonder if they going to make the Buddha finally .. hmm

I don’t know if Lego would do that, considering he’s the most sacred god in a very big religion, and Lego has tried to stray away from stuff like that, although MK is certainly breaking that cycle.

Finally got and built my City of Lanterns - just beautiful!

Now I really want to combine two City like other Users mentioned and did in this Thread, but money is an issue as I want other MK Sets as well (and some Star Wars, and the Daily Bugle and...).

But when I have the money to spare (and the City is still available), I know what to order... :)

Whoa... designer Niek Van Slagmaat shared a VERY early concept of what would ultimately become Macaque's mech! It's neat to get a peek behind the curtain at a concept that's so radically different from what ultimately ended up in the show and sets!

Posted

Wow, that's a wild first-draft of the mech. Don't mind the finished version since it works nicely as a reduced-size mirror image of the Monkey King Warrior Mech, but definitely agree that getting a chance to see some of the earlier iterations of these models is pretty neat!

I would also like to second a comment made on that Twitter thread that, much like the big cat lion molds, I wouldn't mind at all if LEGO finds a way to re-use those new monkey molds in jet black or whatever. From that rendered image, they look quite silly and fun!

It's probably unlikely that TLG will venture much farther than Journey to the West for this theme, but I'd like to see minifigures of their takes on more characters from Chinese mythology and folklore, lots of cool parts and designs they could come up with.

Posted

While I think the final version of the mech is better than this concept (from what I've seen at least, I don't have it yet), I have to say that I certainly would not have minded if they had gone in a more unique direction with it, like in this prototype.

I been out of work for the past few weeks for reasons I won’t get into but my god I am so anxious to get the HQ and potentially the mech before they retire. I heard Flower Mountain will retire this year too, and paired with the retiring ideas/Ninjago sets I still have to get, I feel the clock racing for me to get the little I want of this theme.

For context I do desire the Lantern City, Heavenly realms, Flower Fruit Mountain, HQ boat and Mech sets so while I may not want a lot what I do want is in no way cheap and I got a race against time to collect it. That said this theme has some amazing $100+ sets.

Love it! Though it kind of screams Nexo Knights to me more than Monkie Kid. Might have to build something similar myself now
